    Deflection called an own goal?!?!

Playing as Everton vs. Crystal Palace, Naismith is inside the box with a defender flanking him. He shoots and it caroms off the defender's knee into the corner of the net just inside the far post. Graphically, it was awesome, but I was a bit disappointed it was called an own goal.

Has this happened to anyone else? Just wondering if all deflections will be credited as own goals or if this may have been a fluke.

the game may not have thought the shot was going in. was your player credited with a shot on goal?

even if if is a shot, if it isn't on goal then it would be an Own Goal... kinda hard to tell sometimes but the CPU tends to get it right most of the time...

Happened to me once on demo, not yet in retail release. But yes...it is probably difficult for the ai to determine the right call there. I'd chalk it up to, it's just a video game...

As speedtrucker alluded to, it's the opposite. The game is too good at determining whether or not the shot was on target. If the game credits an own goal then it knows without a doubt that the ball wasn't on target, even if in real life that determination would be impossible for a human without careful analysis.

I noticed the same thing with the shots/SOG stats. I was paying attention to totals last night while playing, and noticed that a shot that seemed on target wasn't counted as such. I had to check multiple angles of the replay to discover that even though the keeper caught a ball that looked on target, it was actually going to curve slightly wide. In a real match it would be counted as on goal, but the game knew otherwise. So the game is actually too precise, but in the end it's not a big deal and trying to program in human error on stats could lead to some bad juju.

I heard the commentator say own goal on not even a deflection last night online... I mean the defender was sliding and close but I don't think it even deflected off him or touched him and looked like a good goal. oh well.. no biggie but yeah I noticed that problem by the commentator
