Frustrating on 'World Class' but refusing to lower Level

    Hi guys,

I am playing FIFA 15 for about a week or so and have finished around 30+ games with a League 2 side (Luton Town).

I had a great Slider Set for Fifa 14 on World Class which gave me a challenge, but I always was within a chance. I got beat a fair amount of times, but managed to play in the upper half of the table. I actually took up my team 'Newport County' into the PL, but only ever managed to win one single proper trophy which was the Europa League. I really, really enjoyed it.

I think I must have been a fool thinking I could just walk into Fifa 15 World Class and have about the same experience.

I find F15 on World Class very, very frustrating. I hardly score (27 goals in 30 games) and often finish 0-0. To top things off, last night I played the 2nd leg of the St.J.P. Trophy vs Barnsley (first leg 0-0) and was 2-0 up after only 12 minutes. I thought 'yes, here we go....' at least I am picking up and learning... only to get beat 3-2 out of the blue.

You could argue I should drop down to Professional, but I dont want to... It just wouldnt feel right. I played around with SLiders but even with passing for example: Its down to 48 for AI but their passing is still around 85-90%. I can not get the ball. I understand my players are only around OVR 55-65, but so is the opponent.

Dribbeling with the ball is hard as well. I get shoved away most of the times and my defenders are unusully out of position at times.

I guess I am looking for a shoulder to cry on or maybe some advice. I have managed all Fifa titles so far but this is really the first one, I struggle to 'understand'.

Since I have tinkered with the sliders I will start a new career tonight anyway, still dont know what team though. Before I do that, I'd appreciate some advice or help?!

    Thanks guys!

Take a deep breath, it's all going to be alright! First off, this year more than any in recent memory, you need to play to the strengths of your team, and hide the weaknesses. Player Ratings matter so much this year, especially on WC and below.
Another thing is tactics, sometimes you need to be boring. Up 2-0 you should have parked the bus, and played counter attacking football. Not sure how your defending is, but for me I've really had a hard time adjusting, I'm finally getting it though and the game is starting to shine.
Avoid turnovers in the midfield and in your own end, nothing good comes from it lol.

Defense is so, so important this year. I've learned that the hard way. I was so frustrated early on, but I've learned to play better defense and it has made a world of a difference. Be patient on offense and the chances will come.

        Thanks for your support guys.

My defending is not the best, to be fair.

In regards to ratings I probably have not done myself any favours when I sold some decent players and replaced them with young talent?! That was a nice wee money spinning tactics in Fifa 13 and 14. I do have my Board set to strict, so I need to make decent profit on players.

I am confident when I start a new career it will be fine. Just need to decide a team.

WHat is your preffered formation and tactics?

Tactics and formations for me and probably most are team related. For instance, I'm probably going to start my CM with Sheffield Wednesday, the club I support, for them it's a straight 4-4-2 which I'll probably start out pretty rigid, over time though it will get more dynamic as I build up the club. My preferred formation is a 4-3-3 with a deep lying playmaker, the 5-3-2 that Juve play is also quite interesting but I've never really went "all-in" with it.

Like Orion said the formation should usually be decided by your roster. I'm currently playing a Chelsea MM running their real-life formation which is a 4-2-3-1. I'm also playing a Southampton MM and using their default which is a 4-3-3 with two DM's. They'll probably change as my roster changes, but I like to have at least one DM on the pitch to roam around marking the man with the ball.

Suprisingly tactics play a major role this year. Cpu also makes drastic changes to its tactics and each match feels like a chess battle. I've started my CM with Leicester on Legendary and the individual player ratings finally have some impact on the game. But you got to be prepared that you'll lose a lot. And I'm having fun losing. I went to Chelsea in my 2nd BPL match, I knew I had to park the bus and I've had like 1/1000 chance to return undefeat. That's why FIFA 15 is the best football videogame EA created. There are flaws but the base product is superb for a EA title.

I've started it on Pro and have been ever so slightly tweaking sliders to make it more difficult. I find this more enjoyable than starting out on WC and tweaking the sliders down.

Maybe I'll eventually get to where I can jump to WC and use orion's sliders but I'm having to much fun right now to change directions!

Re: Frustrating on 'World Class' but refusing to lower Level

I usually try and avoid forums such as these after a new release because they are so often just filled with complaints about how x is broken. Sometimes they're right, but I've found that if I play the game for a week or so without hearing all this stuff I can draw my own conclusions and not catch myself looking for things others complain about. Having done that I am very happy with Fifa, there is significant room for improvement and certainly it could use a patch in one or two areas, but generally I think it's improved.

Here are my experiences with it so far FWIW. See if you find any parallels.

Firstly, I am playing World Class, 7 minute halves, no slider adjustments with Arsenal (as I always do my first MM). I agree with what has been said about formations, but I have made myself stick with the default 4-5-1. The only change I made was to tell my full backs to "always overlap" because that's how Arsenal play, and for Ramsey to get forward more from deep. I also disabled the transfer window. The only other change I made was to increase the injury slider. Just because I never find myself with an injury crisis, something most squads have at least once per year (or all the time if you're Arsenal).

For me it started rough. I struggled to stop opposing teams having a lot of chances and couldn't take the chances I created. The number of times I went clean-ish through and put the ball wide was very high. I released that was because I was doing the exact same thing I was on FIFA 14. In terms of aiming and such. It's different on the new one. Those shots go wide. Anyway, I lost the first game of the season 1-0 to Palace. Then lost 3-1 to Everton and generally struggled.

After 30 games I am 3rd in Premiership. I have the best defensive record and now my team are scoring more goals I'm now in the top 7 in goals scored. While I was knocked out of both the FA Cup and CO Cup in my struggles, I have made the Quarter Finals of the Champions League. My point is that I am happy with the season. It's reasonably realistic in the end, despite my perception of it all going wrong early on. And believe me, I was very frustrated. In fact I had begun to see it as a "test run season". But with practice I got there.

So what tips, if any, can I offer. I think the main one is to persevere. Everyone finds their own way of playing.

Personally, I find the key to defending is to keep the shape of the team. When I play online I see so much pressing and direct, end to end football. Yet when I go to the stadium at the weekend football is not played like that. Defenders rarely go to the man so aggressively in the final third. If the ball is out wide I give the winger a few yards, while trying to stay just ahead and call the winger to help to box the man in. The wingers like to turn back and play the pass into the CM I find, but with practice I have a feel for that now and can position myself to take it away.

In the middle I let the two mid-fielders move sideways but try to look where the pass is going and not playing the ball too much. I also try to stay goal side, as opposed to predicting/guessing. Take away the passes into the central areas where runners can kill you.

One thing I find helps defensively is avoiding hitting sprint unless I'm needing to move into position. Never sprint at the opposition, you'll run past them.

I've since read lots of complaints about defensive AI. But I find that if you play your position the AI is fine. It's when you go out to try and be aggressive that the AI cuts you to shreds. The AI doesn't know where to cover when the user is too gung-ho I think. I find now I get tackles from my AI teammates, and blocks. But it took me ages to get used to it. It does concede more possession, but that's no big deal for some teams, and if you're a team like Arsenal it means giving the ball away and being too direct is hurting you, as it should.

In attack I was ok at creating chances. But bad at finishing them. If creation is the difficulty, I find most people go from back to front too fast and end up with maybe only two or so players up top, playing one-twos and through balls. This might not be the case, but watching others I find it to be. For me, it's important to play safe passes and be willing to go back when you're in a cul-de-sac. I find going back opens up so much on this game. Especially if the trouble is always getting to the edge of the box and losing it. Even if you're not an Arsenal type side it opens up long balls to target men or gives another angle to go to the wings.

As for finishing, I'm still not great. I put too many wide. But I've found I am having more success by not shooting as early.

In the end, in my experience many play faster than any side in real life. Both with and without the ball. IU found Fifa 14 quite arcadey in some respects. So many long balls over defenders to pacey strikers and it was so easy to get the ball back. I find this one far more challenging but more satisfying.

Oh and has been mentioned, if the team you are playing are better. Play defensively. It certainly helps. Don't be too fast to go attacking.

I don't know if any of those things help but it's what I have found so far.

On the less positive. I find goalkeepers glitchy. I lost two points recently against Everton because Szczesny just ignored a backpass. I also scored some long shots that were straight at the keeper.

Free Kicks are too easy to score.

Headers remain over-powered. I must have had 5-6 with Welbeck in the past 10 games.

It can be so infuriating, I definitely get that. But I feel like a big part is unlearning what you do automatically in 14. You will hear lots of people who disagree with me though and feel the AI is broken. Personally, I find it ok.

Re: Frustrating on 'World Class' but refusing to lower Level

                    Update:

started a new career with Stevenage last night and what can I say...

2 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat in the Cup against Watford (1-0). I should have had 3 wins, but Newport scored in injurytime to finish the game 1-1.

Need to admit the following: I completely... and I mean COMPLETELY ignored 'contain' (a button xbone). Actually never used it in 14 either.... This, together with R1 (call for help) and an easier, calmer approach is helping me in defense.

When I take my time, it seems gaps open in attack as well, I just suck at finishing and I dont have a decent enough striker yet.

I guess I am getting there, slowly but surely.

Not sure about the upcoming patch, but I wouldnt mind the game to slow a wee bit.

Thanks for all your help and advice guys!

yeah, that's exactly how I feel on all accounts.

although in saying that, I think I've had 4 free kicks in that sweet spot to score from in about 50 odd games, and I scored on 3 (the other hit the wood work, then the keeper and bobbled out.)

I had the EXACT same problem. World class is tough, it's the big boy level. Last year I played with Man Utd my favourite team and it was fun but it's easy to win with the bigger clubs.

This year in FIFA 15 I'm playing with Nott'm Forest on World class. I don't touch the sliders. I just play the game as it is.

I used to lose pretty bad in the Championship and came on here (this is like two weeks ago!) and cried for help. I'll give you the main pointers I picked up -

Slow down! Try not to use the sprint button unless your guys are out of position, which they shouldn't be - on defence. Attacking, run into open space or, if you're daring like me, you want to attempt a long shot.

Don't control your back four unless CPU is in your box. Out wide? Use your wingers to defend. In the middle? Use your CAM, CM or CDM to defend. That way you keep a nice formation in the back, so there are no gaps for the CPU to run into.

And when defending, forget slide tackling unless you are sure you can make the tackle and win the ball. Standing tackle when you're close enough to make it. But what I do is use contain X for the PS4. And I use the L2, R2 to face up with my opponent. I wait for the right moment and either use stand tackle or bring another player over to get the ball back and start my attack. But patience is the key.

Use tactics. It's not too hard. Look at what players you have i.e. lets say you have Ibrahimovic up front. What you're going to ask him to get behind the defenders? Hell no! He's a target man! The way I set up mine is small guys get in behind, big guys target man.
Keep your CM, CDM back when attacking, overlap your RB & LB. Wingers come back on defence or the default setting. Keep them on the edge of the box to cross the ball in. Cut them inside. It's really fun to tell each player how you want them to play.
Just like a real manager would give his sub instructions when going into the game. You always see it. A clipboard with diagrams of plays etc. Same here.

Possession and swap the flanks. Counter attacking rarely works on world class. So keep the ball for a while, build up play and create chances. Watch most football teams around the world, that's just football. They let the ball do the work, build up their play and create chances when they're available.
Swapping flanks. I like this one, it's fun. You're running with your LB say Luke Shaw, but you look across your screen and you see Valencia is wide open with 20+ yards to run into and cross the ball into the box. Just lob it him and take advantage of that space! Keep the CPU guessing. Mix up your attacks. Don't be predictable.

Finally, finesse shot. Pretty hard to score this year, but most FIFA players are saying finesse is more important than ever, that's just RB on PS4 and whatever the equivalent is for Xbox.

If you take anything from this, bottom line, be patient! Enjoy the possession, wait for the chance to create itself and then attack!

                          Amazing posts here!

Exactly what I realised while learning this game. And once we realised this, we can see how real this game gets! Players are moaning all around the internet because of defense mainly, but this is IMO the best soccer game ever. It punishes the crazy reckless speedy defending... that´s gone now.

Most time of the match I try to control my midfield to stay behind the ball. Usually, I know that if I run against the opponent he´ll change direction and I´ll go past him, just like real life. If the opponent is a lower team, I can get the ball easily, just after a pass when CPU is trying to control the ball. But if its a good technician, all I can do is wait and keep my team balanced and well positioned. Sometimes by doing this I even make the CPU go backwards, despite many say the CPU only plays forward. Please notice that if CPU is attacking too fast its because of your defending.
Eventually they´ll misjudge a pass or a shot and the ball is mine again.

This game is so freakin awesome! Tactics make impact, teams play diferently according to the result and hability. just love when CPU starts pressing way up, almost in my own box, and sometimes I can explore counters, but with some teams it can get really hard to get out of there!...
What about those hard matches, where you score a single goal and then keep a clean sheet till the end despite the CPU oportunities!? Aahh the taste of victory.

All great replies, guys. Thank you for that!

I am getting more and more comfortable with the game. I finished off last night with a 3-0 win That was the first time I scored 3 goals for a long time. Although I scored the 2 goals pretty late, when CPU opened up.

I have 2 slow strikers which doesnt really help and I am looking to improve that during the winter transfer window. Also I need one or 2 Midfielders who can score from outside the box. Most of my players have crap stats for this and I hardly hit the goal.

Need to mention though that I moved the sliders back slightly and most sliders are sitting around the 50 mark. I have read and heard that Fifa plays great out of the box.

It does play great out of the box. I only increased the first touch error to max., both user and CPU. Its noticeable in lower teams, but not as much in stronger teams, unless its raining.
About your team, if your strikers are weak, maybe you shouldn´t play with both? Use only one and use 2 fast wingers with instruction to cut inside and also go to the box for crosses. This way they will play almost like 2nd strikers and might create more chances on goal when atacking. Unless they are slower then your actual strikers.
Shooting outside the box is quite hard, you need top player for that. With a lower team is better to try chances from crosses or literaly going inside the box. Also, near the box, constantly change direction when closer to defenders. If you get the hang of it, you will start to win lots of fouls and free kicks are very dangerous this year.
