Any tips on moving up to World Class difficulty?

Been playing FIFA for years, mostly playing against friends. When not playing against friends, I play the CPU in kickoff every now and then or do a manager mode on Professional that is now just too easy and am getting tired of winning every game, so I wanted to challenge myself. I consider myself a good FIFA player, as I usually come out on top against friends but am finding trouble versus the CPU on World Class.

It seems like I get waxed in the first half every time. Like automatically the CPU scores within the first 15 minutes in the half after I can't take the ball away and they have all of the possession. They seem to always score in the last 5 minutes of the first half, too. So, I'm always finding myself down 2-0. In the second half of a game, I fair much better and can usually get one back (don't know if this is because the CPU is essentially parking the bus) but never can make the comeback.

I have way more losses than wins on World Class, but there have been streaks were I win 2 or 3 games and then lose the next 3 or 4. I have changed up my style to where I hold on to the ball more, be less aggressive and pick my chances more carefully (I'm usually more on the offensive), but it ends up in the same result of me losing. The CPU can shut me out but I have only been able to shut out the CPU once, maybe twice. One time I was playing very well and up 2-0 at half for a change, only to find myself down 3-2 early in the second half. Was just wondering if anyone had any tips to help me adjust. Thanks in advance.

What I do since I play world class religiously is watch how the cpu plays. I know that most of the teams will press the first 15 mins of the each half and the last 10 or 15 depending if they are losing or not. So what I do is change my tactics to defensive or ultra defensive and try to counter attack. If im up or tied depending on who im playing I park the bus usually around the 75th minute and look for an opening. I rather get a point then lose the game

Also my formations are so important to me with instructions to attack or defend. I also do some scouting to see which side is the weaker side and I usually have one of my midfielders set to attack on that side instead of coming back to play defense.
Sometimes you have to realize that the cpu will go into beast mode so when I see that happening I change my tactics like I said above to a more defensive style of play

The game design this year is really geared towards making sure you mix your pass types up. On WC or Legendary, if you're not an elite side, you have to vary the types of passes you use to break down teams and counter. Most teams don't have players that can be good enough off the ball for a full 90 to have absolute success keeping the ball out of the air.

At times the aerial passing is too op, and the cpu defenders are quite helpless as you gain possession of the ball and can flick it on to a support player with whatever pass is appropriate.

In WC tactics and mentality matter alot!

Check your team, see how many defenders you have, how many attackers, midfielders etc, and choose a formation according. If you only have to strikers, don´t play with both. Eventualy you will need to replace them in the field and won´t have more choices. Playing with a good midfield is key, so choose your mid´s wisely. give them instructions to help on defense.

On the pitch, I like to use a pressing mentality and ultra attacking. This is just because I found that my team can´t defend very well deep in my half so I try to invert things, by making them press in the CPU´s half. This has great results even against bigger teams, because they won´t get to my box that easily.

Of course that while playing, I have to realise what´s going on, and if I´m having constant attacks from CPU, with shots against me, maybe something's wrong so I might start to decrease the attack and start moving towards defensive mentality. It really depends on what´s happening.

At the very end I might have to choose a park the bus as well, depending of how tired my players are.

If you have Prolems to defend work on your Possession Game the CPU cant score without the Ball.It also gives your Players more confidence better match Ratings which affects their Form and increase their key Strengths.
let the ball do the work your Players will have more Energy and the CPU cant pressure you that hard. The first 15 minutes are always key because everyone is on Full Stamina.

On offense think ahead and choose the right through all only if it's there and be prepared to have you're next move planned out because defender will likely run you down so don't expect a straight line Sprint. I use the shot feint to change direction.

If the through ball isn't there. Build up play and be patient right outside of the box. Someone will make a run or be in space at some point to either cross or take a shot.

On crosses watch your players in boo . Triple tapping for a ground cross or double tapping for low cross will sometimes be the key I've your normal lob.

On defense, contain on the wings and don't be to aggressive when they get in the box. You cpu ai will become brain dead 50% of time so keep your eyes on attackers and either move that way in front of change players to be in front. Don't dive in unless you have a bead on the ball, even then be prepared that your player doesn't get it on world class.

Clear the ball on rebounds or cross. Don't pass it out of the back unless you know you are able to do so on the wings

Would help if we could see how you play. It all depends on your team and your formation. You have to stick to it. Defense is all about having guys in their proper position to defend the final attack whenever it comes. On WC they will snatch what you give them as far as openings so you want to make them work for it with patience. I know it sounds simple but you really just have to stay in front of your man and try to read 2 passes ahead.

Check out this video of me on legendary (with sliders)

See how I'm chasing the ball wayyy too much? That's what you don't want to to do. I'm pulling guys out of position and that's what gave up the goal. I was pressing way too hard to get the ball back and the CPU was just easily passing it away when I got close.

Re: Any tips on moving up to World Class difficulty?

Thanks for the tips everyone! Have played 3 games since I posted this to try out and incorporate a little bit of what everyone has said. I don't stick to one team when I play CPU, usually change it up, so formation varies. I was Swansea (me) vs. QPR twice and then Everton (me) vs. Liverpool. My first game as Swansea against QPR, I fared pretty well. Got past 15 minutes in the first half with no goals, was moving the ball well and had a lot of chances, more than the CPU as well. Even though I was playing better, I lost 2-0. The CPU scored twice within minutes of each other around the 70th minute mark. One of the goals I couldn't switch to the defender I wanted to in time, so the CPU waltzed right up the middle untouched to score. I was pretty mad at that. I played a rematch since I had played well and I ended up winning 2-0 in the second match, so that was great. Did pretty much the same thing as in the 2-0 loss match, but I won this time around.

In the Everton-Liverpool tilt, it was my best game I have played on World Class so far. Was up 2-0 at half, but I noticed that the CPU was very aggressive in the start of the second half. They were charging at me every time I had the ball and were relentless and ended up scoring in the 51st minute. Don't know if that has something to do with the AI, but I tried everything and I couldn't stop them. Like they were determined to score, no matter what. I've never seen the CPU that aggressive before. I went up 3-1 before they scored in the 90th minute to make it 3-2, but I held on for the victory. It definitely has become a little easier on World Class and I think I'm starting to turn the corner. So, thanks everyone again for the tips.

The biggest problem I had/have in the first 15 minutes of the first half is finding a middle ground to defend. At first, I was too aggressive. Charging at the CPU to try and take the ball away, which just set them up too easily to score, as there was no one there and a lot of space to work with. Then I tried to be passive and have my midfielders back there with my defenders to make the CPU work, but they would just dribble right through me in score. In the 3 games I have played since, I've been able to take the ball away and then just hold on for possession and make passes between defenders and midfielders for a bit before building up an attack on offense. It's worked out well so far.

One of my friends is all about the ground cross and low cross, he uses it all the time and has told me to try it out. I wasn't a big fan and have rarely used it, but I should give it another try and try to make it work for me. Could bring another element to my game.

I have to be better on rebounds and cross situations. I usually just try to pass it out, which I know is dangerous and it has come back to bite me before. Got to be more conscious and just clear it.

Re: Any tips on moving up to World Class difficulty?

                  Update:

Just played 2 more matches. I was Southampton against West Ham and won 1-0 and then I was Marseille against Lille and I won 2-0. After the Marseille-Lille match, a message came up on the screen and said: "It seems you have mastered the World Class difficulty, would you like to move up to Legendary?"

That was quite the surprise, as I have never seen that in any FIFA. I declined because I still think it's too soon to move up and I still want to work on a few things. And again, thanks to all for helping me out, didn't know I'd improve this quickly.

I keep posting the same advice over and over. It's no offence to you! You're just trying to get tips and get better at the game, fair doos! But I'm wondering if some of the best FIFA players on here should do a "Sticky" thread where newbies to FIFA can learn the most basic tips and the ins and outs of a successful career mode.

I'm not into Ultimate team. Not for me. I love offline play.

Anyways my biggest tip for moving to world class is to slow down and keep possession. When I went from Professional to World Class I was trying to sprint around the pitch, counter attack all the time and try to just run past defenders without being touched.

Play possession, keep the ball, wait for chances.

That is exactly how I played when making the switch, realized you can't do that moving up. Possession is the key.

The difference to me is defensive timing.

I play with my friends a lot and some of them play D where they just rush you and hold circle to have a 2nd defender rush. For me, it's all about the timing with that button. You can also use that button to rush guys over and put them in position.

I have been following this thread and making my own attempt at moving up to WC. One of the things I have been trying to work on is possession. My games have been averaging 40-60. My last game I really tried to work the ball around and work on my passing. For 9 minutes it was going good. The CPU got the ball and drove down untouched by any of my players and scored on a 1v1 with the GK. Possession at the time was 81-19 for me. I ended the game on the positive at 55-45 but still lost 1-3.

I haven't won a game yet but I feel like I'm scoring more goals in WC than I was in Pro. So still a work in progress.

You just have to work on your defensive skills. Its really harder on WC. Avoid rushing in at all costs. Always defend with your midfielders whenever possible.

Wait for the CPU, be patient, and it will pay off. Specially around your box, never rush in. Just keep your defender covering the possible passing lanes for dangerous zones. Maintain your distance from CPU, or you will get dribbled. As soon as the CPU is trapped close to the line, and you have two players close by, then you can try to rush with both of them. CPU will get with very little chances and most likely you will get the ball.

Do this and you´ll see CPU looking for other possibilities, and lots of times trying wrong passes.

If you feel that midfielders don´t give you enough support on CPU attacks, then change mentality to a more cautious one, defending or even ultra defending. Still if not enough, give instructions on the tactics menu, so your mids support the defense.
