User team players backing off the play/ball

I have asked this every year and every year I can't figure it out.

The pertains mainly to user v CPU games, i play on WC...

When there is a lose ball and one of the user team players has a clear line to it they BACK off and give the ball to the CPU... I always try to switch quickly to the user team player in question but half the time by time I get control of him, he has already backed off the ball too much and the CPU gains possession. This alone has cost me countless games. It's my number one gripe with gameplay,... When there is any chance to gain possession CPU team players go all out... Your cpu controlled players actually TRY to give up possession.

Is there any tips or settings I can tweak to stop this?

    Thanks in advance

I have noticed this on occasion as well. I have noticed it more often on passes that roll into dead space and computer controlled players just watch it. Its pretty frustrating, you can't help but feel that your blowing a big opportunity every time it happens.

But sorry, I don't know how to stop it without playing on all out attack all game.

I don't have an answer, but I know how to switch to the player faster.
Use the right stick. Point it in the direction (from your current player) to the player you want to control. Again, not a fix, but this keeps it close.

Literally just lost a game because Mario Gotze walked away from a ball 2 feet in front of him with an open net

This is the most frustrating part of the game. Teammates don't care about balls in the air and when the ball bounces off the goalie i'm stuck smashing buttons trying to switch to the guy standing 3 feet from a bouncing ball 5 yards in front of an open net.

There is no way to fix it. Well, EA could fix it in a patch.

            It's a built-in component of difficulty.

As you raise the difficulty EA makes your players more passive to the point of the user needed to do everything, it crosses a threshold between pro and world class where the coding actually starts to work against you like you are describing, running players away from the ball, making some player just passively stand and do nothing during a cross, cutting off runs prematurely on the offensive end, etc

If you change from world class to amateur you don't win every ball because the CPU becomes an idiot but you win the ball because your team becomes active.

Honestly the "fairest" the engine plays is on semi-pro. I am only talking about interactive behavior of cpu controlled players on the pitch.

I understand that the user will always win on semi-pro but it's the last difficulty level where the cpu controlled players on your team still behave like professional footballers. The CPU just has no attack teeth under pro level.

Once you go pro and up on difficulty this is where the AI hampering begins. But if you examine it you see that the AI attack is built off the hampering of the user.

It's the worst AI level system in a sports game ever created. I believe that 100%.

An ideal FIFA game in my opinion would have split difficulty for CPU offense and defense.

Then you could at least find a playable balance between the cheating and getting a more potent cpu attack.
