My work around. It feels a little cheesy but Meh.

I made ten outfield players all 44 years old. Put them in Korea, with 85 ratings. They will retire and the regens will be easy to find.... Then voila.

That will be my first crop of youth... Then by the time they get a tad older in my mm other regens wil be available

Oh boy, well this changes everything. I'm literally at April 30th right now in my manager mode, just getting ready to promote all my guys after the May report...

If I sign them right now on the 30th, will they still get this bug since they won't actually sign until after May 1st?

        Re: Talking Points - Youth Academy (Pre-May / Post-May Call-ups)

I was playing with this over the weekend, it seems that some players you can reload until they get the physical growth. Like if you sign them, and then call them out of the academy, and forward to the end of the month you can see if they grow in physicals. If they don't grow, reload from the saved point and call them out again, and see if they get physical growth the 2nd time.

This worked for a few players of mine that at first showed no phyiscal growth, but after I reloaded they showed it. Some of them no matter how many times I reloaded would not get the physical growth. I do know the first 3 that I could not get physical growth on no matter what I signed at age 16, but were 17 at the end of their first month out of the academy and these were the ones that could not get physical growth no matter how many times I reloaded.

This could just be random coincidence, but perhaps there is something to that.

I may test that out in more detail later tonight by sending the scout out later in the month, that way they would have fewer days to turn 17 by the end of the month if I sign them as soon as I pull them from the scouting report.

Although, again I really don't know if it was just a coincidence or not but it's worth a shot to see if it's not maybe.

I agree with the point above about this being a pathetic bug on the part of EA, especially since their file structure is such that any fixes to bugs like this one don't apply to existing career saves.

It's getting to the point with the Youth Academy, no matter how much I LOVE it as an idea, that I don't even wanna bother with it anymore. FIFA consistently $%^& this up every year. They haven't overhauled the Youth Academy in years and it's clearly overdue.

I'm in year six of my career with FIFA 15 and the bug has virtually ruined my best recruits, including the Scout a Star dudes. They have crap physical traits despite having great OVR. Slow, poor stamina, weak, etc.

Oh, wait a minute...have they not even patched this bug with the physical attributes?

When people are talking about pre-May promotion, do they mean the very first May? As in, the moment the Youth Player turns 16, promote him?

                  Re: Talking Points - Youth Academy (Pre-May / Post-May Call-ups)

I wanted to point something out related to this that might be of interest to you. I signed a bunch of guys in April (pre-May). Next year the following January I sold them (traded them to different teams). Then when the NEXT May 1 came around, I monitored their progress. Most of them went through a "May bump" while on their new teams. I had guys going from 57 to 73 OVR, 45 to 59 OVR, 63 to 77 OVR, for instance. So if you don't want your guys to go through the May bump, but you want them to get the bump and grow their physicals try this trick. However, you need to have lots of money to buy them back

This also works if you sign your guys pre-May, then take a manager job on a different team in April. Go to May 1 and look at your former pre-May players. They will grow! Especially if they have high potentials: Higher potential = higher May bump on the new team.

                  Try it!

While this is interesting, it doesn't help at all. The point of a youth academy is to help a small club find, develop, and improve internally. This would do nothing for a small club like Atalanta or Parma who can't afford to buy these guys back.

and if you could buy these guys back you'd have money to sign expensive veterans anyways with higher overalls

You are exactly right. It would only be beneficial at a club with a large budget. It helps if you transfer the players to a club in Ireland, Australia, Chile/Colombia, etc. where they will be more affordable to buy back.

I basically use UCD Dublin as my 2nd team / junior squad. I buy the players back when they grow immensely.

I am the OP for this thread. And I have come across another useful contribution over at Reddit/FifaCareers. I am not the originator of these two posts, I am not trying to take credit for another person's efforts, I am merely adding them to this current discussion. I am contributing inside these posts (as SpHSpHSpHSpH). Worth a look ...

there's just over 2 months left until the new fifa comes out. no point in spending that time in trying to grow a new team, in my opinion. im letting my hunger for soccer build up and ill take it out on the new fifa 16.

Agreed. I want to start a new CM so badly, but there really is no point with the new game coming out 'so soon'.

It amazes me how badly designed the youth academy is in this years game. There's no way I'm buying the new game until I know they've made changes to the youth academy.
