Excellent tip on setting everything on manual. I am learning the control buttons and skill moves.

I'd say Chelsea is hands down #1.

Next best keeper is De Gea at MANU, but their defense is not good.

I'd say Man City is #2.

Hope you don't mind me jumping in here for a question as well.

I don't know anything about soccer, and I've never watched a single match. However, I know these games are highly regarded, and I'm so fed up with Madden, that I want to give this a shot.

What I'm hoping for is a really deep franchise/team management mode. The second most important thing would be a fun multiplayer mode where I only control one player. With these as my only two interests, should I pick up 15, or wait a month and get 16?

Any input is much appreciated since this would all be brand new to me.

I never want to tell someone to spend 60 bucks on a game that they are not sure they'll like. I'll say this though, my first fifa was 13 and to me it's gotten a little better every year and I'm really looking forward to 16 because of the new features announced, that will add to the career mode. If you can get 15 or even 14 pretty cheap I'd say pick it up and see what you think, at least if it isn't for you, you won't lose as much money. If you do really enjoy it then it'll be something you can play while you wait on 16 to be released

For a deep manager mode, I hate to say this, but this game isn't for you. There are 15 seasons no more, no less. You can't turn off firing from the team you are playing as. There is very little stat tracking. You can only see the stats for the players that you are playing. And if you loan off a player you can't see his stats unless he is in the same league you are playing in. But in '16 it's getting better with preseason tournaments.

How many matches are in a season? I would probably be OK with 15 since I'll play every match. What I mean by manager mode, is do I get to develop guys, sign them to contacts, etc?

How is the realism? Even though I don't know anything about the sport, I don't want to play a bunch of high scoring games.

I think it depends on where you play. I think the EPL (English Premier League) there is 38 or 39 league games and then there are domestic tournaments as well as the Champions League knockoff. This is having the best clubs in Europe coming to play each other in a yearly tournament and I don't know the amount of games for that or the domestic tournaments. Yea in Manager Mode you sign and develop players. But the transfer logic is whack because you see a team like Real Madrid spending a lot of money on a position they already have filled. I'm going to leave the high scoring games up to you because it depends on how you play and difficulty.

Re: FIFA 14 VS 15 for the casual player?

14 and 15 have identical manager modes. No changes between the two releases.

15 has better overall presentation, but nothing that will really matter after the first day or two with the game.

15 would be the choice on gameplay alone. It is very similar to 14, but a bit more refined after the patches they released throughout the year.

16 is about to be released, so 15 should be fairly cheap.

Not sure if you're a PC/Mac gamer, but Football Manager is widely regarded as one of the best sports management sims on the market, definitely deeper than FIFA or PES when it comes to team management. You might want to check out that out if you want a super-deep sim experience, the downside being there's no actual player modes.

I second this. As far as sim games go, there is no better than football manager. I've spent more time on that game than probably all others combined the last few years.

I'm a pretty big OOTP Baseball fan, so I've always had an eye on Football Manager. The problem is I don't know anything about 'Football' so I'd be totally lost without some on field action.

Well, you do get to see your tactics play out within the course of a match in FM, so you'd be learning and adjusting as you went along. Plus there are a ton of FM tutorials out there.

Otherwise, my suggestion would be to pick up a FIFA game -- can be a fairly recent one, doesn't have to be a $60 preorder -- and dabble in the tactics/management side of football/soccer. There will be plenty to keep you entertained, and you can always dive into the deep end with FM once you have a grasp on things.

As a football fan, I think 14 is the better football game. Sure there are less bells and whistles, but on the pitch, 14 is much better, and much more balanced.
