Am also using Portsmouth. The only way I was able to raise an additional 1.6m was thru the pre-season competition. Selling players only give you peanut.

Alternatively, you can add a created player with good rating to your team. But you won't be able to sell him immediately. You've to wait for the January transfer window for that.

      1) Win pre season tourneys
      2) Hire a good scout
      3) Sell players your farm, and,
      4) get into Europe when your young players come to form

Like Resurrection said above, there is no easy solution (otherwise what would be the point). In my experience, I've had to grind my way up to the Championship with shrewd loan deals/free agents. Usually at that point, I'll have developed 1 or 2 players who I can sell off for decent bank.

Yes as stated above it's called a challenge . If u want to cheat your way up just go add Messi, Ronaldo, Pogba etc to your team before starting CM. If you actually want a challenge you play and sell players , Portsmouth isn't that bad got decent talent and ok budget compared to clubs that have under 1.0m or under 800k budget. Scout / buy young players then sell them on for profit like real world clubs would do.. It can be tough but a lot more fun when you can do it instead of using a cheat or financial takeover on a low league club.

Pretty much. 2-3 seasons of loaning in young players and building up a youth academy will get you started. Currently sitting mid table in the championship with Barnet. I've had a revolving door of loanees from premier league sides while slowly adding and growing youth players and free agent regens. At this point I have 3 or 4 players who I could sell for a pretty penny, but I want to wait and see what my budget is if I get promoted to the Prem.

Transfer all your transfer budget into wages. Go for better quality free agents. Go for loans. If you need to sign players for cash then offer a player in part exchange. I managed to get Burton Albion from league 2 to championship on legendary level using this approach.
Play a more direct game as a lower team. It's a real challenge to get your team from league two to premiership on the high levels at FIFA. I didn't manage it with Burton and things got very stale in the championship as I simply couldn't go any further with them so I moved on.
Try and rotate your teams and have cover for every position. As a lower English team I always go for players from foreign teams as they tend to be better value.
Keep things simple and don't forget it's supposed to be fun and not real life.
