    Adaptive Formations

I was playing Man United in a CM match and noticed something funny. MUN had purchased Lacazette but still had Rooney as the starting striker. MUN started the game playing 4-5-1 with Rooney upfront and Lacazette on the bench. Late in the game, they were down 3-0 and subbed in Lacazette but kept Rooney on the pitch.

When I looked at the player ratings at the end of the game, their shape had changed to a 4-4-2. I'm wondering now if the game changes formations depending on what the score is. I know the CPU changes tactics but I've never heard anything about formations.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. If it is true, that is a really cool feature.

Yup, it's already posted by me and other fellow members in the impressions thread that cpu changes tactics and formations depending on scoreline, your tactics and your formation changes.

Didn't realize this had been discussed already. Cool feature, well done EA. Thanks for the response, mods can close this thread if they feel it's necessary.

Not really unfortunately. Often times everyones positions get screwy. The Cpu will more their CB to LB. Their Cm will go out to the right wing. The Cam and Striker will often switch. I'll often have to turn on a second controller and switch their formation back.

A CB can easily play in LB under certain circumstances. For example Leicester's LB's have more attacking mentality. I often put a 3rd CB in LB position when I want to defend more.

Of course, but when that CB is John Terry, it throws everything a little bit off lol

You're right but as you see EA isn't so active and still takes baby steps. It took them almost 8 years to release a game with good AI coding.

I'd go as far as to say that although this game is the best FIFA i've ever played, the wait for good AI coding continues....

This has been in for years.

If you're in front and the AI puts in some more strikers/wingers they're changing formations. Sadly this is another thing where EA just doesnt give a **** and the AI chooses to play a 5-3-2 after they subbed in a few more offensive players
