I just use the Home/Away system.

So, Home - WC, Away - Legendary. Neutral venue in cup Semi/Final - Legendary.

It works well for me.

On Career modes I've often also had two difficulty levels - one for home games and one for on the road. I've sometimes kicked it up to a third level for the semis and finals during the cups. Nice and simple and it works.

I really like the idea of making a system that makes the opponents feel more different than it is now. And sliders combined with game difficulty could in my opinion be a decent solution.

A simple system to make the Career Mode experience even more fun!

The home and away adjusting is also a good solution, but it just feels wrong when your "Chelsea team can't put Norwich under pressure because it's an away match on Legendary".

I think the pass error should be raised when facing these small/middle table clubs. They are not able to ping pong passes in real life like Barca. So why should they in-game?

I got another solution!

Game difficulty build on league position!

So the top 7 teams are on Legendary!
From 7 to 17 is on World Class and the button 3 teams is played on Professional.

When a season starts it's quite random, but this actually gives the small clubs the oppotunity to surprise like in real life.
After 5 League games there will definitely show a pattern.

And another good thing is you can see all other League's so if you play in the European Cup this solution can also be used.

something i find absolutely atrocious still in this game is the adaptive difficulty.

i found a good slider set for legendary and found myself tuning up the difficulty. now, the cpu is basically intercepting half my passes half way thru the year. its like a switch was thrown and i cant literally do a *** **** thing anymore. every single pass is off or being intercepted all the sudden. its so frustrating i want to break my controller

Now its like I can't do anything, and the cpu dominates me, I make the dumbest errors that I am not actually making. Every 50/50 goes to the cpu. And they score the craziest goals I have ever seen. I'm losing every game all the sudden. Its insanely frustrating. Because I don't feel like I even have a chance.

I'm starting to think in the second half of the season I should drop the difficulty down one notch, since it ramps it up so much, in the dumbest way.

All I ask for is team styles that actually work. I was playing as Man City and I couldn't believe that Hull city was passing out the back(perfectly), and pressing high up the pitch when they lost possession. I won 2-1 because of their high line. Aguero just ran behind their CB's for 2 easy, late goals. This is so unrealistic and not fun.

Has anyone messed with custom tactics?

I really hope EA is on this forum, so many good ideas are shared on it.

I seriously doubt they read this site. They've made it a point recently to say things like "feedback from twitter and our forums" when speaking about fan feedback. So I doubt anyone from their reads this forum. Or at least anyone who can actually make any changes. I'd go post on the EA forums about these things, but they get drowned out by the fut kids in seconds.

I'm still doing the WC home/Legendary Away. I was man city away at Southampton in the Capitol one cup

Before the game I set the difficulty to Legendary, then set Southampton's tactics to "counter attack".

I lost 0-0 (5-3 penalties), but the gameplay was great, as I said earlier, I don't mind losing to a smaller club, as long as I don't get dominated by the other team with possession.
