Career Mode: Why are bad teams so much harder to play against?

    Hey guys,

I've noticed this for a few years now and it seems like I'm not alone, I've read lots of complaints about this here on OS.

So my questions is, why are matches against bad teams most of the times so much harder than matches against good teams?

I've just started a new Liverpool Career and played ca. 15 games, I also played 2-3 seasons with a german low-league team directly after release of FIFA 16.

I play on slow world-class with slightly altered slider settings (just pass error/speed) and I have lots of problems to be the dominating team against low star teams like Burnley or just recently in the Euro-League against teams like FC Sion and Rubin Kazan. They play so aggressive, perfect passing, good defense. I win some games, I draw some games and I loose some games, which is fine to me, it will get better when I get better at the game.

What I dont understand is why I win games against Chelsea, ManU etc. without problems? Same thing happened over the last years in my Career Modes. Against top-teams I'm the dominant team, they act really passive, I have around 60-65% possession and way more shots.

Has anyone any idea why it's like that? It's not a major problem but somehow its annoying especially because it has happened for years now.

I've read one thread here where they play world-class against bad teams and legendary against good teams, but this also didnt help me. Is it just bad scripting? The custom tactics of bad teams? The underdog aggresivness?

Really hope EA works on the balance a lot for FIFA 17.

I've noticed it too. It's almost like the script (if it is scripted) should be reversed. At least tone it down a little. It does happen from time to time in real life, so I wouldn't have as big of a problem with it if bad teams give you trouble a couple times a season.

Totally agree with OP. In real life you see bad teams playing more defensively and using counter attacking football to try and get a win or draw. But in Fifa it's different. They are aggressive, faster and have near perfect passing. It's just wrong scripting.

A quick look to this year's BPL table and scores will answer most of your questions.

It's not about the scores but the scripting. A lower team can defeat a better team but not by totally dominating play with accurate passes. That's what I meant by wrong scripting.

I think this is more directly related to the teams tactics not how good they are. Some teams allow you to play more open which is easier to play against. However, other play tight which makes it tough to get off shots.

It's not about the results - it's about the gameplay. Lower quality teams IRL will get results against top sides, but they don't do it playing like Bayern or Barca.

In FIFA, it's almost the reverse: I'm playing as one of the top teams in my league in my CM, and I'm getting good results, winning most games, and yet I more often than not win by beating the CPU on the counter or off set-pieces, while the CPU dominates possession and creates more shots. It's totally backwards.

Just sucks cause there's not much you can do about it with sliders since this is mostly AI coding issues. Gotta just hope it's addressed in a patch.

Yeah, i can see the same thing from time to time that weak teams are playing unbelievable good and superstar teams are quite poor,i have said it earlier also ,but people don´t want to adress it or they are just triyng to defend ea and close their eyes for this problem ,which is actually quite big one and is ruining the fun of career mode.I don´t have anything if my quite mediocre team gets outplayed hard by bayern, but it is unrealistic if the same thing happens against hertha berlin.

Wow, I am totally not seeing this at all. Generally, bad teams are easy to beat for me.
