Manager Mod | Player Training Discussion

Guys, I'm curious as to what methods you use with regard to the new player training.

Do you even bother training players that aren't deemed 'promising' (which the cutoff seems to be 23/24 years old)?

The growth for training those players without that little green indicator just seems to not be worth it.

Thoughts/advice? How do you guys generally handle it?

    TIA!

I typically only train promising teenagers. First priorities are Youth Academy players that will eventually help my senior team the most. Next priorities are promising teenagers on the Senior squad.

I've read on this board somewhere that you should leave the YA guys alone, because they will advance more quickly by leaving them alone, but that's not what I do.

Personally, I start with my best players. My best 3 players with green arrow, my free kick expert, and my keeper.

I use So'ton, so: Mane, VvD, JWP, Forster. Ward-Prowse is doubled up because he is also my free kick specialist. Once Forster hit 80, I move to the next green arrow. Once JWP's FG skills hit all 80s, I move on.

The best players have the least to grown, usually. You will also get bigger and more often transfer fees for those players. This will come in handy if you have a low budget.

That's not true from my experience.
In a previous career I got a 17-year-old up to around 77 before I stopped training him. And behind him I had another one that was 70+ (73/74 I believe).

Since then I've established house rules both when it comes to scouting and training..

I usually train the heck out my promising goalkeepers. It's easy to train goalkeepers in comparison to others.

As for position players, I usually scout for physically strong players and let their physicals improve before training so I won't stunt their physical growth.

Someone said to leave the players in the Youth Academy alone?

Well I had a LW player that was 15 years old and rated 54. I trained ONLY him for the season, and now the season is over and in that 1 year period, he's now rated 74. He gained 20 points from training in just one season, and he's only 16 years old. He's already on my senior squad although not sure how. I was under the impression that they needed to be 18 to get on the senior squad.

I'm pretty sure that's how it is in Football Manager.

You can promote at 16 in FIFA.

Good to know. So I wonder if it's better to leave them alone in the Youth Academy and not promote them nor train them to see how high they get on their own, or if it's better to focus training on them throughout a season, etc.

I can't speak from experience, but I've read that there's a fine line between leaving them in the YA too long (because they want playing time on the senior squad), and bringing them out too early.

I assume that 'the ones that complain' would be the higher rated/potential guys, but again--I can only speak as to what I've read.

                          Scouting
First of all, no 5/5* scouts. I have a 3/4* scout that's always in England and a 5/3* scout that's out on 3-month assignments all over. And I typically won't sign a player after just scouting him for one month (unless it's the final month of a scout's assignment, of course).

                          Training
                          1. I can only train players that are under 70 ovr.
                          2. I can only train players that are under 23 (except for goalkeepers).
                          3. A single player cannot do more than one drill each week.

During an offseason, rule 3 does not apply for players who are under 70 ovr and under 23.
Players who are under 23 but with a higher ovr than 70 can be trained during this time period, but for them rule 3 still applies.
                          All drills are simulated.

                          I think that covers it.
I'm enjoying it a lot more now when my roster is not stacked with a bunch of young phenoms.
The combination of worse scouts and less training obviously means it will require more for a YA-player to make the squad, but when they do I find it way more satisfying.

YA players can grow on their own as well without training them. But as soon as they are 17 and getting to 18 if you don't offer them a contract they would want to leave.
