Defensively you don't have to jockey, because you can track the ball carrier so exactly that you can just force the ball off them. I can't replicate that.

    Solid.
Thank you for the kind words James.

Something I really like about this Fifa 16 is that defending is fun.
You really need to think about what you are doing instead of adopting an automatic attitude.

One major rule that is also very important in the real life game is to keep your player standing in front of the attacker and to not throw him in a tackle except you feel you have a very high chance to get the ball.

The other thing that I think is more related to the game code is when you are in your last third the CPU will use quite often the "pass & follow" (L2+cross on PS4). The best way to defend in those situations is actually to actively follow the player that did the pass and use secondary pressure to press the man that act as a pivot and will try to send back a through ball. Using this approach I have managed to reduce very significantly the number of frustrating goals scored by the CPU where you feel they run through your defence like if it was butter.

Re: YouTube Tutorials ... but Full-Manual and against CPU?

Papinho ... are you using Legacy or Tactical defending? I had been a Tactical guy for the past few years - but I have (so far) made the switch to Legacy for FIFA16.

I am not yet convinced that this was the right move - I still feel a bit under-controlled when on defense. I *want* to be able to actively tackle the ball from the CPU ... but I am not confident enough in my own button-mashing skills to do it correctly and frequently.

I am always trying to remind / train myself to not chase the player with the ball, but instead have my defender occupy the right spaces. I also am not patient enough to trust my CPU-controlled defensive teammates ... so I am (probably too much) switching which player I control (sometimes with the R-Stick, other times using LB) ... and I am often given the "wrong" player on the switch ... and then, because I was expecting to gain control over a different player, I move the player that I *DO* control in the wrong direction ... and then I switch again ... and this just cascades into a mess!

I am using tactical defending. I made the jump when it was introduced (fifa 14?) and never switched back ever since.

Ok, that probably explains partially our different success rates in tackling the ball carrier: you can use push/pull, right?

Inspired by what I saw in this thread I went back to the basics today. In golf terms I started to rebuild my swing including - yes, this is actually true - the way I hold the controller. I noticed that the way I held it made me rotate it during play, so my angles were a bit off. I made significant progress in just a few matches.

So this thread already changed my game!

Re: YouTube Tutorials ... but Full-Manual and against CPU?

I want to keep this thread active and healthy - I certainly think it can help me get better, and I want to think that many others can benefit as well.

I am trying to figure out how I can contribute videos of my game play to this thread - maybe someone could give me some suggestions on how to make this work. I am playing on XboxOne ... but I do not have any additional recording or editing software/hardware.

I know that I can record/stream my matches using Twitch (though I hate how it puts a "Broadcast 'n' viewers" banner across the bottom of my screen ... blocking the radar in FIFA) ... and then I can post a file from Twitch to my YouTube account. But Twitch does not allow me to piece together a collection of highlights - I would have to simply post the entire match, from start to finish, as a single YouTube video. I play 15 min/half ... one full match for me lasts around 35 minutes or so.

Does anyone know of any other recording / editing / posting features that I can capitalize on while using XboxOne? I do not pay for the Xbox Live Gold membership. It would be great if there was a way that I could capture the game play and then save that file, and then do any further editing or adjustments via my computer in my office (at work) ... rather than having to use the Xbox console for all my video needs.

Can anyone help me out here?

I have PS4, but a quick search produces something like this for XBox:

The Xbox One has the ability to take screenshots and video clips of gameplay footage. You can save the clips to a PC for more in-depth editing, or share them directly to Xbox Live and other social networks.

Edit. There doesn't seem to be a way to export to USB drive.

I have to admit that PS4 has excellent editing and exporting.

OK - here are two attempts at me playing the same match ...

FC Koln (CPU) : Frankfurt (HUM)

I have not yet figured out how to do any editing ... this is a full match.

                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ti_T_5D0mk

                - - -

This does not have me talking ... I do own a mic set-up ... but I can really only use that after my wife has gone to bed ... she is not interested in listening to me commentate / complain in the next room.

I do plan to have some videos in which I talk about game play things - either something that I have figured out which works for me - or something annoying that the CPU keeps doing that I need to solve.

And I used Twitch to record the game play ... but Twitch on Xbox is annoying because there is a banner on the bottom of the screen that blocks the FIFA radar ... if anyone knows of any other way that I can record my game play ... I would love to try a different option.

Re: YouTube Tutorials ... but Full-Manual and against CPU?

I am not the expert, but here are some comments on what I am seeing.

Some really nice defending there, enjoyed watching it!

CPU intercepting passes that by all means should be making it to the receiver. This happens a lot in my away matches. Edit. And it sucks, big time. It's the lamest implementation of home team advantage ever, because your receiving player freezes completely. What I try to do in these situations is to, first, look for more space: switch sides, use back four to move ball to other side, use lob passes over pressing players. Primarily pass to players who have a lot of space around them, including passing backwards. Second, move ball quickly to dribblers and use protect ball / face-up dribbling / precision dribbling to lure pressuring players out, which will usually create space for runs. In this kind of matches, passing is a risk, and use of dribbling and speed is safer. Passing into tight spaces is a clear risk when the CPU has the momentum.

Using super cancel at the receiving end of these passes sometimes breaks the player freeze - but unfortunately not always.

How much do you use knock-on in the acceleration stage?

At least in the first video it looks like you try to dribble the ball into the goal. More action - not necessarily better results - could be obtained by crossing or, for example, weighted passing into the box. Or layoff passes and shots.

Re: YouTube Tutorials ... but Full-Manual and against CPU?

                    Thanks jamesbeaver ...

Yes - I tend to be decent at defending (except when I get into a jumble when "change player" gives me the wrong guy, and then I move him, and then change again ... I need to be more trustworthy of my CPU-controlled teammates more of the time). I want to be able to be more aggressive and try for some active tackles ... but I am usually better suited at sitting back and cutting off the lanes. My good defending combined with my pitiful attacking gives me a lot of 0:0 and 0:1 scorelines ...

Still not certain about Super-Cancel ... I want to use this more in my game ... but there are times when LT+RT completely "turns off" my player and he allows the pass to go right past him (usually straight out of bounds). And I am also unsure if I should let my player receive the pass, or if I am supposed to use the L-Stick to move my player towards the pass and meet the ball.

Not so much with the knock-on ... another thing that I am aware of and trying to get better at. Do I need to release the L-Stick before I use the R-Stick to "knock-on" ahead? Do I need to keep holding RT so that my player will sprint after the ball that he has pushed out in front? If I knock-on too far ... a defender from the next bank (past the LM ... but then the LB comes into play) often captures the ball.

I am aware of my tendency to play super safe ... I have not had much success with crosses or long shots. I usually beat the CPU in possession (something uncommon for most players in FIFA16, I think) ... but this is probably because I am very risk-averse when I have the ball. I know that I have a bias in that I tend to attack down the wing on whichever side is the "bottom" of the screen (it is easier for me to see when the players are bigger). My go-to move in FIFA15 was to hard attack toward the corner flag, cut in across and into the 18-yard-box, and then try for a shot. The CPU defense in FIFA16 very often shuts that down before I am able to turn from "West" to "North" (when attacking the left side of the screen, for example).

                    - - -

I (sort of) figured out how to chop up the 35 minute video into smaller "highlights" and then save the edited match to something like an 8 minute video or so. That will probably be my plan for my career mode matches ... and then post to my playlist on my YouTube channel. Sort of ...

The fact that we need to use super cancel is pathetic. Its uncertain effect doesn't help. And you can't really practice.

Because of that I rather look for more space. But if I have to try super cancel, I usually apply it quickly to try to get the pass recipient off rails. Then I try to move the player towards the ball. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

Not so much with the knock-on ... another thing that I am aware of and trying to get better at. Do I need to release the L-Stick before I use the R-Stick to "knock-on" ahead? Knock on has to be used selectively as well. For me it's an absolutely essential tool all over the pitch. Also, keep an eye on how often professional footballers use it. Even a defender, if he has the space, will knock on the ball.

Edit. I think you can combine knock on without problems with L and R2.

The easiest way for me to draw fouls is to accelerate with knock on on the wings. The CPU has no other choice but to hack you down.

I am aware of my tendency to play super safe...
Makes sense. Still, I would like to point out that you lose possession quite often from short passes forward. Had you been playing against a sharper opponent, or different sliders, they would have penalized you for that. When the CPU has the momentum, short passes forward are not safe. For example, if I have space on the other wing, I consider switching sides safer very often.

I have not had much success with crosses or long shots.
They are not overpowered. On the other hand, they are an important part of the game, and sometimes they work. If you want your matches to look like football, you must use them.

I am still trying to get better at editing ... this is just the complete raw data version of the game. I am working on trimming it down to show only "highlights" or things worth talking about. I probably want to get this down to something in the 10 minute range. But so far this is a start ...

I think that looked better, right? You outshot the CPU in an away match. Looked for more space in general. I have some other comments, but I can't formulate them clearly enough yet.

Unfortunately your audio was wasted in my case, because I had to watch it in silence.

I will also upload one video tomorrow.

I am on Full Manual too, and can maybe provide some videos. I do have highlights from my documented CM, but those are just highlights not really helpful, however even at FT 100, I can control passes for the most part.
