(Unreasonable) Board Expectations [Year Two]

I just finished my first season in the EPL with Swansea City. The board expectation for Year One was "finish mid-table". I *barely* achieved this goal with a 14th place finish ... it was a slog / struggle / grind to keep my head above water throughout the season. I have previously written a post about how I figured out the algorithm for board expectations in Year One.

My Swansea team in Year One had a star rating of 4.0 and, as I said, my board expectation was "finish mid-table". I have made some changes to my roster during the season, and my Swansea team at the beginning of Year Two has a star rating of 4.5 (you can determine your updated star rating using the "import team sheet" trick).

My board expectation for Year Two is now "qualify for champions league".

Are you serious?

I checked the star rating for all the other teams in the EPL ... !newsflash! ... there are more than four teams that have a 5.0 star rating. Why am I expected to finish top-4 with a "less than the top four teams" team?

Also ... in what world does a team who finished 14th in one season have any possible expectation to finish 4th in the next?

So ... (1) is there anything I can do to change the board expectation or (2) how close to 4th do I need to be so that I do not get fired?

It has been said before, and will certainly be said many times more, but it is really foolish / annoying / ill-conceived that EA made firing so strict in the game. I cannot see how this adds anything to the player (i.e. the person who paid for the game). PLEASE have an option to turn the firing "off". I get very invested in transfers and my youth academy ... it is ridiculous that I might not get the opportunity to see this through.

That's rough man. In my 1st season with Milan I was expected to qualify for the Champions League. I finished 4th but didn't qualify for it even though my Career Summary said I did. Year 2 it was to do the same and I won the league so obviously I did. What's weird is that in Year 3 my goal was to not win the league but just qualify for the CL again, lol.

Yeah, it's awful.

We need to be able to turn firings off. The fact that we can't is ridiculous.

With Everton I finished 6th in the BPL, won the Europa League, lost to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup Final and I was fired! It really is ridiculous.

Why does EA continue to be so obsessed with making its customers play the games they buy a certain way? The number of options you can't turn on or off across all of their games is truly mind-boggling... simple edits that would improve replay quality immensely, improve customer experience, and allow EA to please a much broader spectrum of their clients.

Don't want to get fired? Turn off firing.

Want to edit players in Career modes b/c you don't like how player growth is handled or just WANT TO EDIT SOMETHING? Turn on editing in career modes.

Want to switch teams NOW? Switch teams now.

Let my daughter create a female player and go into career mode.

Making those sorts of options available in all game modes offline is not difficult. It's not. EA just sits in the boardroom and decides they don't want their customers to play their games that way. I'll always disagree with them, and I'll never understand it. Like my father always said, "You don't give a kid a toy and then tell them how to play with it." EA customers range in age from, what, 5 to 105? There's a range of experience and expectation that EA could never hope to truly satisfy UNLESS they open up their games to allow more customization through editing settings offline (where there's no competitive balance to concern themselves with).

You play your game as you like, and I'll play my game as I like. Please EA... just open up the damned games.

The day before you advance to the next season, simply switch your starting XI and bench with the lowest ranked players you possibly can (even out of position if need be).

The board will then only make your objectives based on this team, thus they will be considerably more lenient.

It's essentially cheating, but a necessary evil to overcome the ludicrous demands of the board in the game. Fortunately it works a treat. If you have enough younger prospects in your team, sometimes the board will just make the objective to avoid relegation.

Yes ... this was my solution in FIFA15 ... but I thought it was "fixed" (Thanks for getting on this one, EA!) in FIFA16. Can anyone confirm if this is true? I have enough YA guys that I can certainly field an XI and subs that are less than "Champions League Quality".

It has been "fixed", unfortunately. It was one of the first things I tested and I was very disappointed.

I wonder if this, too, wouldn't help with the budget? Perhaps setting a higher budget to allow you to sign some bodies?

I really think they have to turn firing off, it's not really fun, Take Everton for example the board objective in the first season is to Qualify for champions league...There's no real fun in getting fired if I don't reach that goal in the first season.
The fun is growing players, and putting together a squad that's strong enough too compete for that position!.

I like the idea of board objectives but I think that they have been done really poorly, it would be much more fun if the incentive was of a positive effect,Example:
Qualify for Champions League = extra £10,000,000 pounds in next seasons transfer budget.

Personally I think Career Mode needs a bit overhaul (but that's a whole new topic that deserves a thread of it's own in my opinion), and hopefully the fact that they haven't really updated it means they are working on it behind the scenes....Hopefully!...

Also I think with FIFA Career Mode becoming such a popular YouTube feature, maybe the devs are more willing too put a little bit of love for us career mode players!, I used too be big time into NBA2k and spent a lot of time in the 2k forums here at OS, I've had some great conversations with the developers about ideas for MyLeague etc, They are active and get involved in the community in those forums, taking suggestions, feedback, and critiques, and it's a big reason why the game is so in-depth and offers ALOT of customization throughout the game modes. I know it's two very different games and very different company's but it's something the developers may have too consider in this day and age.

I was expecting to get fired after year 2 of my Chelsea MM but it didn't happen. Year 1 I did win 2 trophies (FA Cup and CL \ finished 2nd in EPL) but year 2 finished 4th in EPL and didn't win any trophies but still kept my job for one more season.

Yeah, I agree, I wish they'd make an option to turn off firing.

If I start a career mode with a team, I generally have no intention of ever team-hopping and I plan to stay with that team for the entirety of that career. Luckily it's not happened to me yet, but if I was ever 'fired', I'd probably just delete the career entirely.
