A few questions about my Career

    NEW QUESTION:
On my MLS Franchise, I've been at the July Transfer period. I had an unhappy player that I haven't been playing. He said we wanted to transfer. I selected him and added him to loan out, but afterwords he said he wasn't happy that I did that instead of transferring him. I didn't/don't see an option to transfer him. I can do short-long loans or release him and pay his salary.
So how (where) do I transfer a player I don't use.
Also, is there a way to keep him in my mls season and him not go to other countries?

I've been playing my MLS Career (half way thru first season). I moved up my difficulty level a while back because I was winning every game, but now it's not so much fun. The cpu seems to intercept my passes all the time, even when my guys are open and when I do get a good shot on the golie, I miss the net almost every time now, usually kicking it strait to him when I don't. I know I need to get better, but the "cheating feeling" is getting frustrating. I can have an open guy and it will kick it strait to the cpu, even on a 2 on 1 break they usually intercept it.
    - And if I have a clear breakaway, I always get caught which is super annoying even with a 85-90 speed guy (I've upped the acc of players), how do you stop this? A couple of other things: When I do goal kicks now, the cpu intercepts or almost does every time I kick it short to my defenders and also, when the ball is lose my guys just stand there until the cpu goes and gets it, unless I am able to switch to a guy close and run and get it. These things are frustrating.

Also, my guys keep getting stupid offsides that don't make sense.
    - I thought you could turn offsides off, but don't see the option anywhere in my career...

I like for my games to be higher scoring 3-2s and not boring 1-0s. I was scoring too much before I moved to the harder level (4-5s), now I usually get 1 goal.
    - Is there a way to make the scoring higher? Before I started my career, I changed the MLS teams formations to offensive sets. - Also, it seems you can't play games with other teams (or even see their box scores)...

Last, I've tried to read about the Line positioning sliders, but don't completely understand them (I don't watch a lot of Soccer). Which settings would be better for open play (more scoring)?

    - Thanx for any help!

Re: A few questions about my Career

    1. Lower Shot Error slightly. I too find that too many 'easy' chances are wasted with it at 50. Experiment around 47, but if you find that's still too high, try going down to 45.

    2. I agree that on difficulties above Professional, the CPU seem to be given an unfair pace advantage. For that reason you need to have slightly higher Sprint Speed/Acceleration sliders than the CPU. I'm currently using 47 Sprint Speed and Acceleration for User and 46 for both for CPU on Legendary difficult, which I'll go into below.

    3. In relation to the above, I've actually found that World Class is essentially just a 'broken' difficulty. It's completely unrealistic in so many ways that it's not worth bothering with. I've moved to Legendary recently and I wish I'd done it sooner. Don't be afraid into thinking that it'll instantly be a harder version of World Class - it's completely different and makes for a more realistic experience.

    5. The reason that the CPU are able to intercept your passes but make successful passes themselves is because they overuse the 'drill pass' feature. To balance this out, I currently have User Pass Speed at 58 and CPU Pass Speed at default 50. Assuming like me you rarely (if ever) use the drill pass feature - this puts you at an even footing with the CPU.

    4. For higher scoring games what are your post-game stats like? Are both you and the CPU having a decent amount of shots/shots on target? If so, try lowering GK ability. The goalkeepers all tend to have the reflexes of Buffon on default 50, so it's worth lowering both to around 20 if you want them to make more 'realistic' misses.

    5. Others will fairly disagree here, but I'm of the opinion that messing too much with Line/Height/Width settings etc can easily cause as many problems as it fixes. For that reason I leave mine all on default 50 - it's not perfect, but it's not too bad either and I've found it makes for a more consistent gameplay experience than trying to change them.

Just my 2 cents. These are things I've been implementing into my game recently and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I'm playing on Legendary, Normal Speed, 7 minute halves and I'm having a good mix of tight draws as well as more 'realistic' victories/losses, such as 2-0, 3-1 etc.

      Thanks for the responses.

      - So I need to lower the slider for shot error, to improve making more goals?
The sliders seem a bit confusing to me; Needing to higher some to improve (like spd) and some lower to improve (like shot?). A few of them I read several times and still was felt I wasn't sure which way to move them.

      - What do you mean on the passing (drill pass?)?

      - I did lower the GKs some already, but will do so more because they do make a lot of crazy saves (although both me and the cpu do seem to miss the net a lot from the edge of the box.

      - I had left the Line Positioning at 50, since I didn't really understand what would change if I higher or lowered them.

      - Ya, World class is crazy (I haven't played soccer that much).

Think of shot error as 'how likely you will encounter a bad shot'. 50 is default, so if you want to encounter it less...lower it. If you want to encounter it more...raise it. Speed sliders are simple...higher means faster, lower means slower. Shot/Pass speed...higher is faster, lower is slower...etc. etc.

There is a type of pass called drilled pass...hold RB (on Xbox at least, think it might be R1 on PS4) while hitting A...it cause a 'drilled pass' or just a much faster pass. The CPU uses it constantly depending on the sliders and skill level you're on, and never mess it up, so it's really hard to stop them when they play like that. By lowering pass speed, even if they hit the drilled pass, it doesn't kill your defense. They will also generally do it less.
(Now, granted, people seem to have gone away from lowering pass speed as an effective way to get a 'realistic' game, but it can work if you would rather just have a better (easier?) experience).

GK ability is similar to pass speed in terms of how the community feels. I started by lowering GK ability to about 25, but have since seen what the community has done and upped it again. However 25 plays fine, and doesn't cause too many issues, IMO.

Line positioning just determines how wide or narrow your team plays when in their line (this affects the defenders the most obviously since the 4 of them stick together), or how up or down the field they play/meet the other team's attackers. Playing at all 50's is fine, but causes some common problems in FIFA...I would suggest following the sliders from the Community Sliders for the positioning, at least.
        Teams:
        Yankees // Broncos // Blazers // Syracuse // Devils // Southampton // Timbers

Re: A few questions about my Career

Yeah OP essentially it's all about what you want from the game - do you want a super realistic football sim, or would you rather a quick/easy football game with high-scoring/exciting matches? Both are completely fine of course, but that will just determine how you set your game up.

It's definitely worth checking out the community sliders to see if you like how they play - but bear in mind they were created with regards to making quite a realistic football sim. If that's not what you think you'd enjoy, then they may not be the sliders for you.

I'd advise just experimenting with the sliders until you find something that you personally enjoy. For the sake of your understanding, I can try and explain some of the slider meanings better if you like?

Shot Error - raise this setting to make more missed/wayward shots, or lower it for more accurate/well-placed shots (ie more goals)

Marking - Essentially how tightly defending players will 'mark' the other team. Raise this for tighter marking, or lower it for more space

Run Frequency - Essentially how much your players will make runs when you have the ball/how keen they'll be to help with attacking moves. Most people find that even on default this is way too high, so I'd highly recommend lowering it slightly at least

Line Height - How high up the pitch your defenders will start as a line. Obviously the higher this is, the closer they'll be to the midfield, but they'll also leave more space behind them to exploit. Around 55-60 can be a good setting for this

Line Length - The overall length of your team, from the strikers to the defenders. Essentially think of it as how much space there is in between your furthest striker and your CBs. Raise this and your strikers, midfielders and defenders will be slightly further away from each other. Lower this and your team will be a lot more compact

Width - How wide your team will be - from LB to RB and LW to RW etc.

Full Back Positioning - How much your LB or RB will run up the pitch when helping with attacks etc. This is generally personal preference. Some people will want this at 1 to keep their full backs in defensive positions as much as possible, others will like this at 100 so they have extra men to help when attacking. I personally think this works well enough at default (50)

First Touch Control Error - Raise this and your players will be more likely to take a 'bad' touch when receiving a ball, making it more likely for an opponent to tackle/close them down. Lower this and your players will be better at controlling passes and will be good at keeping the ball tighter to their body

Power Bar - Essentially this is just how sensitive your Pass, Shoot and Cross buttons are really. Raise this and you'll only need to press the buttons for slightly less time, or lower this and you can hold them down for slightly longer for the same effect - it really depends how you personally play

I hope that's helpful! Let me know if there are any others you don't fully understand or if there are any of those you'd like more clarification on.

Re: A few questions about my Career

Thanx for more help. I will try experimenting some, but the explanations will help me to know which to try.

So on the Width and Line length, which would be better to help score a little more?

Also, so can you not turn off Offsides in a Career (for some reason I you could)?

Offsides are a fundamental rule in football, so unfortunately they can't be turned off. It'd break the game if they could - what'd stop you from just having your striker goal hang in the opposition box and hoofing the ball up to him on every counter?

Personally I wouldn't focus on Width or Line Length too much in order to try and score more. You could try raising them both slightly (around 55-60) to create some more space on the pitch - but given the things you mentioned in your first post, I'd maybe try and lower Shot Error and GK Ability first.

Re: A few questions about my Career

I've gotten my scoring improved. Last couple of games were 3-3 & 4-2.

One thing for me that is annoying that I'm not sure can be fixed with sliders is: It is a struggle for my to find open guys to pass to. The cpu has their defenders in front or next to my guys all the time (intercepting or instantly taking the ball away when I pass it), while it is the opposite for me... Their guys are always wide open. My defenders don't pressure well and the cpu can complete their passes soo much easier than I can. Usually their % is a ways higher than mine because of this. And my Percentage of having the ball is usually 40-45%. I have to have more quick strikes that long possessions.

If the player recently joined your team then you can't transfer him until the next window. That's the only reason I can think of why the "Add to Transfer List" option is missing. That or you are outside the transfer window itself but that doesn't sound like the case.
