Re: FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
My brief thoughts on the demo:
Got the PC version of the demo and am actually really happy my rig runs it on Ultra. Fantastic graphics. Talk about eye-popping.
Gameplay-wise, it needs work. However, there are some discussions brewing that tactics actually work in the demo, so I will be exploring that since we can't get sliders.
Regarding sliders, this game will need them, but if the tactics work - then the portion of slider creation for AI variety can take a bit of a rest. The positioning is much better, and the defensive line does not seem as disconnected as it was in 15/16. The problem is the AI drilled passing remains, albeit in a different animation (ball glides on the turf, vs in 16 it bounced up speedily). It is good to see the CPU miscontrol a couple of those drilled passes, but then you also see very unrealistic tiki-taka throughout the pitch, I hope this can be remedied with tactics vs sliders.
Ball physics are nothing compared to PES of course, but FIFA has always taken a different approach, and this year is no different. They make the ball's proportion size a bit smaller compared to PES, and that actually has the effect of making player's legs stand out more - thus making them look very twitchy and unrealistically fast.
Lastly, and a big one, the animation speed is too fast - even on slow. It's back to being very twitchy, which gives the impression of making the gameplay faster than it really is. This is expected as we are in a FUT World of FIFA, so I'll hope sliders can remedy this, without affecting any other aspects - in particular stamina/fatigue.
That's all I have for now until I get more matches in. If we can get this game playing right with tactics and a slight influence of sliders, we're going to be in a good spot.Comment

The more I come into new impressions thread the more I see how people's opinions are influenced by others.
I'm enjoying the hell out of this demo, just as I was w/ the BF1 beta when everyone was riding the "this is Battlefront and awful" bandwagon... and slowly everyone's opinions changed.
I challenge you to forget about the opinions of your peers.Comment

Actually I've noticed that most opinions, can be grouped depending on what different people value and consider immersive regardless of any negativity or positivity. Some people praised the Journey mode, I'm so uninterested in it I didn't even try it. Some are immersed and impressed by the way the game looks, others rely on gameplay feel. I saw several obvious improvements over 16, and even stated that this *may* be the best fifa game in recent years with some improvements, but I also understand those who felt bored with it and there's no contradiction in that statement either. Fifa gameplay often felt like a repetitive chore to me even though it can look so close to the real thing at times. But yeah all our impressions are premature though if you consider that this is a 4 minute demo.Last edited by Chrisx; 09-15-2016, 07:25 PM.Comment

Re: FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Ditto. Graphically this game is so blurry on xbox one I can't make out which midfielder has the ball.
Keep in mind when you look at the EA forums they have threads that say "should the game be more arcade or realistic?" And the majority on there say arcade. Hard to get invested in a game that will be repeatedly patched for those people.
NHL 17 which doesn't yet run on frostbite is significantly better graphically than FIFA 17. By FIFA 17's showing it is clear frostbite isn't ready yet, but since fifa was so poor graphically pre-frostbite they decided to push it to this year's game. NHL and madden are pretty decent graphically so there was no need for those dev teams to prematurely rush to frostbite and essentially graphically downgrade their games. This is why frostbite is only in FIFA.
Sorry to say it, but gameplay wise FIFA has fallen behind NHL. I urge people here to try this years NHL w/ operation sport's Al tito's settings. It is a remarkable achievement of organic gameplay.Last edited by Josam27o7; 09-15-2016, 09:25 PM.Comment

FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Played a few more games last night and while it's not as bad as the first impression, it's just not that good. The AI seems stupider than ever ping pong passing it's way through the field. I watched its attack stop 35 meters out and pass the ball repeatedly between three players until it found an opening and suddenly they were in the box. And it wasn't that it was slowly passing back and forth trying to break up the defence. It was these instant one touch passes for 10 secs. It looked so awful that I almost stopped playing. The AI has no intelligence or tactics it just grinds forward with only a goal as target. It doesn't try to look like football. It's just trying to give a challenge in the simplest possible way. I bumped up to World Class and I'm having a good challenge. It's just that it doesn't look like the sport in any way.
It feels like the EA of old (before 07) where instead of fixing legacy issues they add gimmicks like the new set pieces. The penalties are fun I admit though and the corners are ok. Still haven't seen a foul on the attacking half in five games so haven't tested a free kick. Really worried about the lack of fouls.
At the moment the only thing drawing me in are the mini games, licenses and perhaps online. It's just not a good simulation of the sport as it stands and I don't think it even tries to be. So disappointed. Seriously considering buying PES and I haven't bought it over FIFA since 6.

Re: FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Well im still really enjoying this demo , the more i play the more subtle things im seeing and this game is pretty organic like the NHL game more so than other Fifas.
Dont get me wrong ill be the first one shouting when they release a patch and screw this game up.
I like the slower build up and less space it offers while pes is the opposite, wide open, pitch seems giant so much space but i love that game too.
Im glad i suck and cant sprint through the whole team.
I do love it when i slot one home in the bottom corner with the new shot they gave us.
Like Matt says these games are just based on different principles of what the game is or can be and right now they both seem awesome to me.
I wont post videos because its too much like work.Comment

Re: FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
There's nothing I'm enjoying more than rocketing a low drive from outside the box only for the GK to push it around the post at the last second! It just looks damn good. And once in a while I get a rebound goal from it...Comment

Re: FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
So I tested fouls by d/l'ing the pc version and changing the half lenght (to see if 4 mins just wasn't enough time). Still barely seeing any.
For those of you who feel there are enough fouls how are you doing it?Comment

Its hard to get a real feel for the game without changing the sliders. but it plays much better than the beta did.Comment

Re: FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
I've only had a chance to get one match in. It was ok. Nothing ground breaking, but I didn't HATE it. I was Man City and the CPU was Juve. The biggest thing to me was that Juve was actually trying to score. They took 11 shots! I can't remember the last time I was outshot by the CPU. I won the match 2-1, because Joe Hart stood on his head. (I miss Joe Hart) I will say this, I hope these aren't what the final kits will look like, because City has the wrong stripe down the side and the collars looked terrible. Also, the kits fit way too loosely. I'll try and get a few more matches in this weekend, but 2K17 will challenge that. Lol!#LFC

Re: FIFA 17 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here
Just some "slider" musings of what needs adjusting...
The main thing that can make this game (assuming the demo is the game, unlikely, but still), is the pass speed. If it can be lowered a couple notches, the play should improve a bit more.
In most cases, lowering pass speed will allow the balls in the air to also travel more realistically. At the moment, especially on corners, the ball just dips like a half-volley out of the air, versus any driven strike to it. It makes these crosses look very strange, and the goals resulting from them.
For once though, I feel the line settings (height, length, width) are spot on, and do not need any adjustments.
The acceleration, or Sprint, whatever value needs to slow down the twitchy animations - needs attention. Players are not moving naturally. Can't put my finger on it.
Run frequency is going to need some toning down. Those incisive runs, as expected, are going to make the pace of play chaotic. Should not take much to do, especially if tactics work the way they should.
That's really it, so far. It's a pretty looking game, now it just needs to play a proper game of "the beautiful game".Comment
