FIFA 17 CM with slider settings is pretty good but still has its faults (like star players being benched and refs being an a-hole and keepers not responding to certain actions). I don't even bother with FUT, so poisonous.

How is FUT gameplay in any way meant to reflect the other facets of FIFA gameplay?
For the last coupl'o days online friendlies, played against adept players that are a part of the league i run, have been playing unbelievably similarly to how actual football games look and unfold.

Even seasons gameplay from time to time is quite realistic, much more so than the fast-paced ''normal'' game speed of last year's seasons gameplay which was atrocious.
Moreover, if you're a serious manual player, you should as a rule never ever make comparisons with automated gameplay as the discrepancy in control shapes two totally different games.

          I wouldn't say that either.
In last year's edition seasons gameplay was atrocious.
'Normal' felt more like fast pace; agility was waaay too swift and the overall pace of play was much too frantic.
Something which still is the case every few games, yet overall seasons gameplay has been much improved.

So much so that the only downside in certain seasons games to me is the unbearable brevity of the halves which doesn't give me enough time to unfold my play like i want to patiently.

Speaking about this, i find that now one of the main culprits for this frantic gameplay precisely is the undesirable brevity of halves, which forces players to shift a couple gears higher. (this counts for the players who otherwise build up more maturely)

8 minute halves would make a small yet significant shift of difference.

I'm already so sick of FIFA 17. It's SO unrealistic on the pitch compared to PES for offline play, and I LOVED the last two or three FIFA games compared to PES. But PES has regained the crown this year for me.

Messi can get his pocket picked just as easily as a backup striker from Brentford in FIFA. Plus all teams play basically the same style, another longtime FIFA weakness. And how often per game does the CPU team put the ball into the air on passes? Once? Maybe twice? Everything is on the floor.

We would have the perfect soccer game if EA could handle everything off the pitch, including licensing, and have Konami do all the on-pitch AI programming. That would be nirvana.

FIFA 16 was a better game, at least offline. The only improvements this season are the shielding and the AI runs. Otherwise, FIFA plays the same damn game offline as last year, while PES has made massive gameplay improvements in PES 2017.
