I noticed in one of the career mode videos that you can offer a release clause? What is that exactly?

Release clause refers to, in a contract, a clause that imposes on a football club wishing to acquire a player under contract to pay money, with the substantial bid of the clause money, to the original club to acquire said club's player from Wiki.

Another example would be you sign a player to 4 year deal for x amount of wages. In that contract if you know that player is highly value you can add in transfer value of any mount usually it is more than what the club paid for. Any team can trigger that release cause if they choose to pay that amount but than it is up to the player to accept the deal. Look at the recent Neymar deal that took place earlier this summer.

Neymar going to PSG was because of a release clause. Barcelona didn't want to let him go but he had a €222 million release clause that PSG paid.

I know this is old but,

Does that mean you can set any players release clause to like 300 million so know one could buy him out?

And what happens if someone doesn't have a release clause?

If you try and set a release clause that high, the agent will say no.

If they don’t have a release clause, then they can’t be bought without your consent.

For example, Ronaldo and Benzema each has a release clause of €1 billion with Real Madrid. Most likely, they aren't going anywhere lol.
