Re: CAREER MODE WHAT TEAM WILL YOU BE USING

Not a huge fan of soccer so don't really know the landscape of professional soccer, so asking for some help. I have gotten familiar with the game and CM with some test CMs but now I am to where I need to pick one to go with. Any suggestions for tier 3 or tier 4 clubs? Wanting to build and move. Thanks

Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool, Wigan Athletic are 4 teams in the League One (tier 3 of English football) that I think are solid choices. Particularly Portsmouth and Rovers, as they have some good history in the top flight of English football. Including winning the league 5 times between them. For the Championship, which is tier 2, I would suggest Nottingham, either of the Sheffield teams, or Preston North End. They’re in the second tier sure, but they’re definitely on the low end of it currently in game, if you go by financials and ratings. Forgot League 2 (tier 4). I’d recommend Coventry City, because they were an inaugural member of the Premier League and had been in the top flight for over 30 years before their descent. This season is their first in the League 2, since 1959. Swindon Town, who have only made it to the Premier League once, in 1992. Carlisle United perhaps, they’ve had some interesting history. Port Vale is another good choice, as they are the only team I can think of that were part founders of two of the English divisions lol. The second division, and fourth. Notts County are interesting because they’re the oldest team in the world, established in 1862. Lot of history in English football and not many teams you can go wrong with choosing.

In France I think Paris FC is interesting. They were once merged with Saint Germain, but were forced to split because of political pressure. They’ve been bouncing around from Ligue 2 to Ligue 1 for 40 years with prolonged absences from the top flight, while PSG (who moved into their stadium when they moved to Paris and became the bigger team) became what they could have been. Other suggestion maybe Lorient, who were recently relegated.

In Germany, I recommend the Würzburger Kickers for 3. Liga. Cause, their name is awesome. Also, they have an interesting history. Mostly due to the fact that they dropped to being an amateur club for a prolonged period of time after WW2, then made it to the third tier, the second tier, and then fell dramatically after financial trouble all the way to the fifth tier. About a decade of toiling in the fifth tier they finally got relegated to sixth, then 7th in three seasons. In 2016-2017, they made it to the 2. Bundesliga for the first time in 40 years. They got relegated back to 3. Liga for this season.
For 2. Bundesliga, I’d recommend either Kaiserslautern (because they’ve won the Bundesliga in the past) or Union Berlin (because they’ve got an interesting following and are on the cusp of breaking into the Bundesliga.)

In Spain, I recommend.. I dunno. Whoever you like most based on kits, financials, or ratings. Oh maybe Barcelona B because I think you can break the La Liga rules and get them promoted lol. But not many teams in the second division have a big historic base to build on. La Liga has only been won by 9 teams, who are all still in the top flight. My choices would be, Real Valladolid, or Zaragoza. Simply because Zaragoza is top 10 in the all time La Liga table, and Valladolid are 13th. The only two in the top 15 that aren’t in the division.

The Italian second league in FIFA is loaded with generic teams (don’t have their correct name, logo, kit, or all 3) so I can’t in good conscience suggest you choose an Italian side. I think the generic teams really detract from the history of the league and it really kills the immersion. But if you really want to, I recommend Empoli or Pescara, simply because they’re the only two who still have their proper logos, kits, and name.

So there’s the big 5 for you. If you want to check out smaller leagues with no second divisions (in FIFA) I definitely recommend the Eredivisie (Recommend Ajax, PSV, or Feyenoord), Scottish Premiership (Celtic, Hearts, or Rangers), Turkish leagues (Besiktas, Fenerbahce, or Galatasaray), or Liga MX (Tigres, America, Pachuca, and Guadalajara are all fine choices). And of course, as an American, I have to say the MLS can be pretty fun. Plus, it is fully licensed with the proper broadcast presentation as of this year. I recommend Atlanta United. They’ve been a fantastic story this year as an expansion team that hit the ground running. Maybe Toronto FC if you’re looking for a team who can feasibly win the MLS right away. In the western conference, I’ll always recommend San Jose (my local team) and Seattle, because they’ve got CenturyLink in the game and because I love me some Clint Dempsey.

I’m going to try to keep Huddersfield Town in the EPL, with a twist. I traded my attacking 4 from my hometown Atlanta United onto the team in exchange for some of the aging players from Huddersfield. Will be interested to see how Almiron, Tito, Asad and Martinez perform in the Premier League!
