Why Does Fifa Release at the End of September When EPL Starts in Early August?

Seriously don't get this. The game isn't out until almost October... a solid month and a half into the EPL season. Madden moved up their release date this year. Fifa needs to follow suit next year.

It's really weird. Especially since the NHL game is released the first week of September (for a season that starts in October). I've never understood why they don't swap the two releases; they're even both done by the same studio in Vancouver!

This is my assumption. NFL and NHL rosters are pretty close to being finalised before August with only a few trades/free agent moves taking place after.
The EPL and other leagues only really start putting their squads together in this time and will continue to do so until Septsmber.

I guess it's to keep NHL farther away from the NBA games and NHL and FIFA away from Madden. Honestly surprised they don't just go ahead and release FIFA in early/mid August though. I'd imagine with so many people on holiday, and all the enthusiasm around the start of the season, there would be an increased willingness to spend on UT.

I'd guess when they go to true subscription model the big annual update will move into an August/first week of September release.

The NHL rosters are usually a mess. As for the AHL, CHL, and the other leagues in the game, they are absolutely atrocious and they usually do not get fixed for a long time.

It's also probably got a lot to do with tradition, as a yearly title, releasing in the same timeframe every year breeds familiarity. In the early days of FIFA it used to be released in Late October, Early November, most likely for transfer updates and other last minute changes, EA has now slowly moved it up to Late September(since about FIFA 10). Seems to be a thing with Football games though, as Football Manager normally releases in Early November.

I asked one year and was told it was more to do with spacing out their releases as much as possible. It should be:

FIFA - Early August
Madden - Late August
NHL - Mid-September
Live - Early October

The problem is there has to be a development cycle cut a little short one year to accommodate a new title being pushed up meaning that the 1st year could theoretically see a feature(s) cut short. They would catch back up in Yr2 though.

The rosters out of the box are always months old tho. You have to download the squad update on day one either way.

I remember Pes a year or two ago had a couple roster issues on release that weren’t part of their day one update and it took like a month for them to fix. I would think it’d be easy to do a roster update but maybe that’s why they take so long after the window closes?

Why Does Fifa Release at the End of September When EPL Starts in Early August?

Just found it, Pes 16 released on sep 15 and updated rosters after transfer window came out on oct 29. I know there is a waiting period to have updates approved by Sony before they release them but I could make the transfers in like an hour so I’m not sure why they can’t get someone to do it in a day or multiple people working on it?

Maybe it takes longer to have an update approved after the game is released compared than prior to release?


Btw they didn’t have any of the summer transfer window transfers in the game on release.
