Was it in the first match, when no match ratings would affect lineups or was it later on in the season?

It was first match.

Last year the issue was Pogba didn't play because he was higher rated but didn't play the position that was in the selection. Now it is that the true definition CM isn't getting the nod over a CDM that is higher rated (though you did edit this rating so not sure then why he gets selected over a higher rated player).

Krebs you can still live out your fantasy world in the next transfer window when a lower rated CDM gets more playing time than a higher rated CM for the CM position and the higher rated player demands to be sold!

Just had this tweet liked by an EA employee. Literally the only time I’ve had any hope in regards to FIFA. May not mean a thing, but oh well. At least I was acknowledged. Lol!

I didn't even THINK about that, but UGH! It actually has real effects on our Careers, not just our OCD. Also, I've seen that CPU controlled teams are starting a lot of backup goalkeepers again, this year. Still have to go in and edit the real life starters to be higher rated and have higher stamina than the backups and then pray that they don't go out and have a terrible first match rating and get stuck on the bench for the year. Why is this still a thing in 2018?!

100% agreed!

I am also holding on the creation of a custom tactics thread until I am sure CPU will use edited tactics.

I don't have the game so I rely on your feedback.

I believe "big" teams will have tactics locked (hardcoded) but if at least we could make the other teams play like they should would be nice.

It really is a shame. Having every team play like their real life counter part would be HUGE for making this more of a sim title.

If Pep went to Man U today, they're whole style would change. On both sides of the ball. So not being able to replicate that in Fifa (once again) is frustrating

The test I did was with Eibar. So a smaller team. It's like they knew they were playing Barcelona, so there's was no way in heck they were going to press. Although, for a while last season and the season before, every team was forcing them to play long out of the back, so every team was pressing them. Which is why allowing the CPU to make these decisions based off of perceived talent mismatches is dumb imo

It is really weird, on some teams they work, so I agree it seems certain take have their tactics coded in. I guess that's to do with all the promotion they had with the mangers, the formation and player instructions stick but not the tactics.

On other teams like I said though, they seem to work fine.

I've seen a few people refer to loading current customized rosters. I don't think that's in the game this year. I've started a few new careers and i'm only left with options: latest roster or original roster.

*I'm not on my xbox, so the wording may be a little different. But the meaning is what is important.

I've seen a few people refer to loading current customized rosters. I don't think that's in the game this year. I've started a few new careers and i'm only left with options: latest roster or original roster.

*I'm not on my xbox, so the wording may be a little different. But the meaning is what is important.

On PS4, it's current roster and either latest or original roster, I can't remember which. To use your edited roster, you load the one you want to use, go start a new Career Mode and select CURRENT ROSTER, as it's the one that's loaded.

I've been testing this on Play now


Update: I tested against Atleti and edited all 5 tactics with the exact same settings. Seemed to work better. But was hard to tell because I didn't put them on anything drastic like constant pressure or long ball. But was promising. Maybe you all are correct that there are certain teams that are hardcoded.

I edited a club, I think Shrewsberry, to a crazy formation in play now and it worked. The problem is, the cpu changes their on-the-fly tactics mid-match and those overwrite any instructions/tactics they have set.

I think if you set up all 5 tactical options you can get them to play how you want for the most part but there will be stretches during the match that they’ll do their own thing.

I understand what you are saying, but if you haven't downloaded the news roster update and you start a new career; it will download it for you. It happens right after the screen asking you to choose manger or player. I would guess that would wipe all of your costume editing of team tactics (as it just downloaded the new roster)..

This is why you always save your squad file twice—always. If one gets overwritten, the other is there happily waiting. It should not be needed, but it is.

This is the first year that I made a save on the first day of my career/Sept 9 roster. I went back and loaded it and started where I wanted. I will likely do that after the first update in Feb, also.
The past years you had a choice to pick from current or download latest. Why we are forced to have download latest (actually says current, but it only means that you have the latest) or original. It worked perfectly fine before they "adjusted" it..

I don't mean formation, that's always worked in Fifa. I mean from the kickoff the CPU has specifically been ignoring some defensive tactics like putting them on constant pressure. I'm going to keep testing making all 5 the same exact tactical setup though

DO THIS:
Load your desired roster.
Go to create a new CM
WHEN THE "DOWNLOADING CURRENT ROSTER" SCREEN COMES UP, ESCAPE OUT OF IT!!!!!
When you get to the next screen it will ask you if you want to use current rosters (which is the one you have loaded) or initial rosters. Select "current". Then you are SET.

I created a roster adding Zhirkov and Grandqvist to one of the Tianjin teams. I did exactly what I did above, and selected the Tianjin team for my career. Zhirkov and Grandqvist were on that team. You don't have to start careers with current downloaded rosters. You just have to cancel out of the download current roster screen when it comes up.
