Player Requests Loan Then Wants To Stay

Had a player get upset about PT and request a transfer. Transfer window came and went and nobody wanted him but I was able to work him into the rotation enough that his morale improved and he wanted to stay he is now bugging me to extend his contract

Here's the problem, when a player requests a loan/transfer you cannot negotiate with them because "they don't want to be here" and since it was a player request I cannot take them off the transfer list.

So, the board of directors is now pissed and my job is in jeopardy because "there is unrest in the locker room" and "I refuse to discuss wages with my players".

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a workaround?

Not really a work around but if you can afford the financial hit just release him. Not very realistic but it gets the board off your back. The board dropping my manager rating because I wasn't "working" to find a buyer isn't worth the hassle of having the player unhappy. Not sure how it's my fault nobody wanted him. And unless there is a way to approach clubs so I can initiate a sell then I'm just going to release them before the board emails me.
