How difficult would it be to update last gen FIFA’s to their end of year rosters?

Hey guys I’ve always casually paid attention to soccer whenever the World Cup would happen, but it has only been in the last few years that I’ve been paying more attention to club football and the Champions League. I am becoming much more passionate about the game and am enjoying my current exploration into the history of football by watching documentaries and reading articles.

History is a passion of mine so naturally when it comes to sports it’s also one of my favourite things. Along with Documentaries and Books I have found video games to be a useful learning tool as well at least for recent history. So long story short what I’d like to do is purchase every FIFA with Shutdown online servers from 14- 06 and update the Transfers & Ratings to reflect what they were at the end of that year’s game. If this process goes well I will then consider doing this with the PS2/Xbox era games.

Just how difficult do you figure this undertaking would be or Is it even possible? My main concern is whether or not I would be able to create enough players who weren’t in the launch rosters without exceeding the create a player limit.

Did PS2/Xbox games even have roster updates. I didn't think internet updates really became standard until the PS3/x360 came out seeing as how you had to by a separate piece of add-on hardware (on the PS2 at least) for internet connectivity.

How would you get the information needed to make the transfers and update rating assuming it's possible to do so in game. Transfers would be fairly easy because of the internet but how would you find any updated ratings though.

Also I'm not really understanding the purpose of going to the effort. All the information you could gain from a historically view on soccer is more readily available on the web. Is it more of an archival thing or do you plan on going back and playing the games.

Hi, Yes I do plan to go back and play the games. I collect both Sport and Non-Sport video games so it is an archival thing. If I wouldn’t replay them I definitely wouldn’t go through all that effort.

For Transfers I will be using the Transfer records on Transfermarkt. It has up to 10 pages of transfers for each season https://www.transfermarkt.us/statistik/transferrekorde

And for ratings at least until FIFA 12 I will use FIFA index which tracks ratings from every FIFA up until 05 and every end of season roster update up until 12.

The only problem I could see is creating youth players who transitioned to their senior team mid season. Doing some research I found most recent FIFA’s have a create a player limit of only 30 players.

If it were me unless the youth player ended up playing a significant role in the squad I wouldn't bother creating them. Some get called up just to be an extra body on the team and don't really have an impactful presence.

I agree. There aren’t too many youth players like that so what you said I’ll probably end up doing. I’m fairly confident I can update the rosters up until 06 as long as the game permits it. I’ll just need to edit some ratings based on my own opinions for some years.

That being said I’d like FIFA to step up their creation game. A 30 create a player limit is ridiculous considering what other sports games allow. Roster/Squad sharing alone would be a tremendous feature that should be in a game that is as global as FIFA.
