Re: FIFA 21 - Beta Feedback Pitch Notes

I really enjoyed the beta. I can’t really explain what I liked about it but it just ‘felt’ so much better than 20. My only issue was AI defending. They’ve got to shut down passing lanes better...especially around the box. I was just beginning to play with the marking slider when the beta closed. I’m hopeful!

      Thanks Steve!

So glad to see that they added the option to choose weather back into Career Mode. Really hoping they worked out some bugs in training with position switches taking way too long and secondary positions not being recognized. This is going to be a really good year for Career Mode players. The beta was incredible.

Based on the relative calm around the internet on this years beta even with the issues it seems like the atmosphere has been better this time around. It has that going for it at least especially when compared with all the mess going on with Madden. From anyone who participated in the beta were these improvements in the Pitch Notes really the most pressing issues you guys came across or is this just low hanging fruit?

          Assorted musings...
          • "Situations where the opponent would sometimes immediately recover the ball after being tackled."This is the third year they've claimed this has been fixed. Adding some actual physics into the game might help with this.
          • "Situations where soft collisions were causing easy penalty kicks or fouls" What's worse bad calls (good reason to introduce VAR lol) or long stretches without any fouls/penalties. It took months before I even took a penalty shot in FIFA 20.
          • "Feedback mentioning that some players felt too slow with the ball." Was this a real issue or people just prefer that arcade-y mess.
          • "Some Manager Objectives were unrealistic or being wrongfully marked as completed" Have they removed the objectives that the manager wouldn't care about like kit sales or increasing attendance? Hope they got rid of the you need to buy a star striker when you have Erling Haaland on your team already.

Something that sticks out to me from pitch notes is:

The game shouldn't need constant tweaking throughout the year. Yes bugs come up and there are always QoL things that can be tightened up but the base game should be largely in a good spot from the beginning. Pick better candidates for the beta, have multiple closed betas, do it earlier in the year or something. If this is going to be a yearly release you can't treat it like a MMORPG that gets tweaked over years and years.

I was in the Beta, I think the majority of these issues were the most pressing. My one worry from the list of fixes is the 'players not reacting quick enough to input' one. My favorite thing about the Beta and the main thing which made it different to 20, for me, was the longer animations. It felt and looked more realistic because the animations hadn't been 'clipped', so my worry is that (just like last year) EA will clip animation lengths in an attempt to make players seem more responsive, which I think will make the game worse.

Regardless of this though, people should be excited about Career Mode this year, even though it was at times hilariously buggy in the Beta the foundation is there, the whole Match Sharpness thing coupled with detailed training I thought was a huge step in the right direction, just needs a bit of tweaking.

There won't be a demo this year.

I’d have been happy to keep playing the beta than going back to Fifa 20.

I felt the unfinished beta was more finished than what 20 is now. I really liked the ability to not accept the advantage on a foul as well.

Also manual headers, what a god send they are.

Didn’t see any mention of them fixing the way that we edit players. 😕

I watched a YouTube video with one of the "game changers" and the early build he was playing looked like the edit menu was back the way it was prior to FIFA 20.

I sure hope so! I don't know what they were thinking with the editing process in 20. It was just awful.
