Keepers are a mess

Despite the hype around keepers being improved, more realistic and having X amount of new animations, it’s safe to say they’re worse than ever IMO.

I’m seeing 6-7 superhuman saves per game, the kind you may only see 6-7 times a season in real life. They’re saving shots that should be nailed on goals the majority of the time, that’s not an improvement!

It can’t be resolved with sliders as the keepers are still prone to letting in some dubious goals, which bothers me less than the above as you get that in real life to a fair extent. What you don’t get is keepers making a handful of genuinely world class stops every game.

The new animations aren't great, almost every save is a flying dive, even when they aren’t at all necessary. It seems as though GK’s are incapable of moving their feet to position themselves for an easier save, they stay rooted to the spot so they HAVE to dive to make the stop…it wouldn’t surprise me if this is intentional to show off the new, ridiculous animations.

It’s almost like a cheesy cartoon at times!

Hopefully they're better with the patch but yeah, they're a total mess. I absolutely love all the variety and makes for some fun moments of play, but there is zero rhyme or reason, no consistency what so ever.

IMO it's all because of the high chance creation rate in FIFA. Because of the unrealistic amount of good chances we can create inside the box, keepers can't be realistically balanced or else we'd have double digit scores each match. It's why the FUT crowd is furious over how good keepers are at stopping close shots.

Sucks cause if there's no consistency, no rhyme or reason, sliders ain't going to fix the problem. There's lots to love with the keeper overhaul but serious tweaks are needed.

You’re spot on the the frequency of scorable chances. It’s far too easy to get into those positions, most games! I am enjoying the odd game where I can’t break teams down but it’ll boil down to team tactics…certain CPU tactics will give you atleast 10 ‘should’ve scored’ chances, even with the better sides.

Just so it doesn’t sound like sour grapes, my keeper is as bad as the CPU for saving shots they have no business saving!

I’m having too many ‘let’s just pretend that didn’t happen’ moments which is the sign of a poor game IMO, absolutely rips you out of any immersion.

This is what I’m getting at. The shot is effectively right at the keeper, or close enough that the keeper can stand up and shift across/stick an arm out. However, AFTER the shot is taken the keeper moves in the wrong direction with his feet, meaning he HAS to dive to get to it.

Again, this is the exact opposite of how a GK reacts for a shot he has full sight of. Again I think it’s deliberately coded this way so EA can ‘show off’ their new dive animations. What they achieve is a game which looks ridiculous!

EHHHH, I actually think that's not a great example. That's hardly "right at the keeper." It's going top corner for sure. The main point of keepers not doing enough to position is on-point, but I don't think that video exemplifies it all that well.

I shared this in another thread, but sometimes GKs really do just allow some weird shots in. This goal in a Rapids game made me think "I'd be shaking my head at FIFA 22 if I were playing this."

It highlights the keepers doing Y (position themselves incorrectly with their feet) so they have no choice but to do X (dive).

If that shot occurs IRL the keeper shuffles to his left to cover the shot and makes the save standing up.

Keepers in 22 are just weird. Unbeatable walls with close shots but they suck at near post still and some long shots that are going right at them and should be saved by anyone not trying to NOT save them lol

I've seen keepers laying out to make an amazing save but their hand moves under the ball at the last second to allow the goal in. That and odd animations.

There are definitely some weird animations. I was in career mode as Norway in the World Cup yesterday and the goalie made a dive but instead of saving it normally, he tried to do a punch while diving sideways. It didn't work at all and it was quite hilarious.

Keepers in 22 are just weird. Unbeatable walls with close shots but they suck at near post still and some long shots that are going right at them and should be saved by anyone not trying to NOT save them lol

I cant get over how weird the keeper are too.
