Best formation for keeping clean sheets

    PS5
    Legendary
    9 min halves
    OS sliders for slow play

I’m a nutshell I’m looking for more realistic score lines. Too many 3-2/2-2/3-3/4-3 games for my liking.

Even when I setup defensively (5 at the back, as deep as I can) all it takes is 2-3 quick passes around the area, followed by a first time shot and it’s a goal.

My midfielders completely disengage once the ball is past them which doesn’t help. I normally take control of the CDM to get him back but relying on the AI defenders to defend whilst I’m doing that is leaving me in the same spot…a couple of quick passes in my box opens me up every time.

Any suggestions? Anyone have a formation and tactics which will get my team doing what I’m asking!?

I’ve also noticed the line is very high even though the slider is as deep as I can get it!

I always play 4231 narrow with narrow width. I’m okay with AI getting the ball on the wings, just not infront of goal. LAM and RAM come back on defense both CDMs cover center and one on stay back. Both FBs balanced attack and overlap

What difficulty and sliders do you use?

I use Matt’s world class default pace full manual

FWIW I also use a 4-2-3-1 (wide), with both CDM's set to cover middle also. Tried 4-3-3 but I prefer 4-2-3-1 defensively.

Lower pass accuracy and shot accuracy for CPU, and possibly raise GK ability for USER. Don't worry about sticking rigidly to Matt's sliders. I always use them as a base - and I don't tend to mess with things like Line Height, Width, etc. - but I tweak a lot of the values to my liking.

In terms of defensive formations, I like 5-2-1-2 or 5-2-3. I was playing 5-2-1-2 as Norwich with Sargent up top and Sara in the CAM and had them each dropping to RM and LM respectively in my Defensive gameplay, making it a 5-4-1. It was really solid.
