Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
Finished my League Two season as Notts County with a 30-10-6 record - exactly 100 points - comfortably winning the league by at least 16 points. Our goals record was 82 for and 32 against - Delroy Facey and Luke Rodgers joint top scored for the team with 18 goals each (equal 4th leaguewide), Ben Fairclough scored 13, and my VP scored 12 from midfield (including 3 PKs and 3 or 4 FKs). However, NONE of my players made the League Two "Team of the Season"
I only signed one player during the season in January, 19-year-old Australian left midfielder Thomas Oar from Brisbane Roar. He came of the bench for his league debut, and had a game-winning assist, and while he became a regular in my team, he only managed one goal in his first half a season of English football.
Around England, the top four in the EPL were Manchester CITY, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United in that order, Chelsea won the League Cup over Birmingham City, while Stoke City won the FA Cup against Man City in the final. Burnley, Stoke and Wolves were relegated from the EPL, they were replaced by Middlesbrough, Newcastle United and...Ipswich Town! (you only find out the latter when filtering the search in the transfer window by league then you can scroll through the teams in that league)
My goals for season 10/11 in League One are to "Finish Mid Table" and make the "3rd Round of the FA Cup"...spoiler tagged in case other Notts managers here wanna find out for themselvesComment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
As on the topic above does anyone know if the glitch from last year still in the game this year. I mean if you moved up/or down it would show top XI from the league you were joining. If you were in Champs league and made it to the EPL it would show the top XI from the ELP and since you weren't in there (since moving up) none of your players would make the list.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
My signings and solid scouting have turned The Bulls into a most feared team in the A-Bundesliga. I am currently at the top of the table with a 5 point lead the 2nd place team Sturm Graz. I am approaching the end of my most difficult month fixture wise (4 games against the top tier clubs in the league) I still have yet to post a win against Sturm Graz, and they will be my last game in December. If I can put them to the sword I'll have an 8 point lead. My back line is rock solid and in combination with my league leading strike force I am sitting on top of a +30 GD. Victor Moses from Crystal Palace has been an absolute beast, scoring 15 goals 18 games into the season. SK Rapid Wien, who are apparently my rival club have been beat down throughout our series, and I fully expect them to go 0-4 against the club which should make the board happy. although my last brutal contest with them left me with a ban and an injury, I didn't lose too much quality but seeing as how I massively need the result against Sturm Graz I'm not too pleased with fielding an 80% side.
Me thinks I'm going to go with a 5-4-1-1 even though I've been playing at home, if I can get the game to 1-0 I think I my defence can lock them out and secure the win. Ugly negative football, yes I know, but a win is a win is a win.
Question for those further along, do I get more money for making cups and winning in them? and do I get a cash infusion for winning the league. I'm especially concerned about the ECC (champions league) as in real life making that as a lesser side can be a massive financial windfall.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
A little more than halfway through my first season with Newcastle. I'm hating that all the teams just fly at me agressively all game with their 70 tactics, but I'm having fun nonetheless. I'm hoping the update they are talking about actually makes teams feel different from each other. But this is keeping me occupied nicely until that happens.
My expectations are to win the league and reach the 4th round of the FA Cup. I'm sitting in 2nd place on 51 (15-6-4) behind by 4 points with two games in hand on the leaders (Bristol City) and 2 points clear of 3rd and 4th with two games in hand on them as well (Sheffield Utd and Boro). I just reached the 4th round of the FA cup by beating Porstmouth 2-1 on the road. It was a nerve-wracking game because I may have been fired if I lost it. Luckily, I got a 75th minute goal to go ahead from my LB José Enrique when it fell luckily to him after a free kick from just inside the half line. I made a nice little run to the quarters of the Carling Cup before drawing Chelsea and losing 3-0 to them. Too bad that didn't matter whatsoever to the board.
I decided I had to make a couple moves to make the push for the league title. I brought in Clint Dempsey and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink to shore up my attack, and sold Nicky Butt. I am also shopping Geremi because his ratings are about to fall off the face of the Earth. I'm pretty happy with my defenders, but might bring in another center back because I'm pretty thin there and have some match congestion on the horizon.
So after the moves, my optimal lineup looks like this. I play a straight 4-4-2 right now with a slow build-up and try to keep possession with shorter passes. If I drop behind a goal, I open things up a bit, but not too much unless I concede a second.
GK: D. James (brought in from Portsmouth before the season)
RB: R. Taylor
CB: S. Taylor
CB: F. Coloccini
LB: José Enrique
RM: C. Dempsey
RCM: J. Barton
LCM: K. Nolan
LM: J. Ledley (brought in before the season)
RS: J. Vennegoor
LS: P. Lovenkrands
Bench:
CM: D. Guthrie
CF: A. Smith
RM: J. Guriérrez
RB: D. Simpson
GK: T. Krul
I'm feeling pretty optimistic going forward that I'll be able to take one of the automatic promotion spots. It certainly makes things easier now that I got a huge bump in board confidence after reaching their goal for the FA Cup.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
ESPN shows EPL games now on SAT mornings (I believe), and I saw one with Tottenham that inspired me to start a MM with them. A little shaky through the friendlies, as I'm still figuring things out, but I think I'm ready for the season.
Tottenham has a moderately high profile, so I'm thinking the reason I'm having trouble signing anyone is because my roster is clogged. Also, as a dumb American, I have no idea how much I should play with increasing player salaries and bonuses, because I don't want to commit to something that will screw up my finances for years to come.
Roster is pretty balanced, but my favorite things about this game is how very different all the players are. Their OVR ratings are all pretty similar, but that doesn't begin to tell the story. There's 5'5" Alex Lennon, who's fast as hell, but could never win a ball in the air to save his life. On the other end, Peter Crouch is 6'7" and it's hilarious when he gets tripped and limbs go spilling all over the place. Even defenders have their own personality--Jonathan Woodgate is my favorite for some reason; very reliable in the middle.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
I've reached the midway point in my first season in the Spanish Segunda Division with Hercules CF. The goal from the start was to win the league, then survive relegation next year, and I'm on my way to completing the first part.
I'm 17-4-2, taking 55 points from 23 games. My current lead in the table is 11 points.
I was knocked out in the second round of the Copa Del Ray by Villarreal, but the board only wanted me to get out of the first round.
I have a strong group of veterans, but the future is strong with multiple young players as well. At this point, I think with possibly a few signings, or maybe just one in the Summer, I'll be able to stay up in La Liga next season. I'm hoping to extend my lead even a wee bit further in the league now, so I can keep playing my young players even more.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
just finished year 1 with Leeds, and won the English cup as well as the league title (by about 6 points or something) to get promoted to the championship. new goals are to go far in the couple cups I will be in and to avoid relegation.
simmed the friendlys while concentrating on transfers (and got absolutely smacked in the process), and was able to land a handfull of players rated in the 70s to start to sure up my squad to compete in everything. there was one defender that was rated 82, had no other offers, and I failed to sign him. got his desire rating up to 79% with a hefty salary, offered his team over 200k more than market value, and every week it failed...and it never said why in the negotiation recap. anybody else get this lack of message? pain in the butt.
I am playing a 4-4-2, and I want to have 10 solid guys for DEF and MID, then 5 strikers and 3 decent goalie options to make sure I can rotate and keep everyone fresh without sacrificing too much skill. I am a few guys short of this...and then the board tells me I cannot move any more players "to not disrupt the core". I can sign guys, but can't trim the fat...which in turn will kill my finances (well a little bit anyway). so that sucks. now I have to hope my scout can fill the voids a little bit better than last season. first 2 guys he came back with were near 70, then I paid to "upgrade" and got 3 guys in the 50s...WTF? freaking idiot...
oh...and how annoying is it to not be able to simply type in your salary offer in the negotiation screen? on psp you can, but on ps3 I have to wait for a minute while it slowly scrolls up. I am not missing something to speed up that process am I?Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
Got fired from AS Roma after leading Serie A for most of the first half of the season. I got screwed because they wanted me to get to the semi-finals of the Cup and I was matched up with Inter in the first round. That killed the board's confidence in me and after playing mediocre for the next few games, I'm sacked. Guess I'll start up with someone in La Liga or Ligue 1 while I wait for the roster update.Comment

Re: FIFA 10 MANAGER MODE Progress thread
just palyed my forst english cup match...won it. then my reputation went down?!? the msg was something to the effect of "this league is below your standards and you are not performing well"
huh? it just doesn't make sense. I won in penalties, but a W is a W I thought...at least as far as cup play goes.
I mean, I won the match!?! and I am #2 in the regular table after like 8 matches (and the goal is simply not to be relegated) so that couldn't possibly (or could it?) be the reason
and I frequently get the msg of "you are showing the established managers how it is done" so...hmmmmComment
