Fifa 11 Scouting and Career Mode

I have looked everywhere for scouting and I can't find it. Also did they get rid of the sponsors that you could get for extra cash? They talked a lot about the improved career mode but it seems all they did was remove the features I like so much in Fifa 10.

    this concerns me ...

i hope that they did not "improve" career mode by making it worse ...

That is what they did. I guess they pulled the Madden "dumb it down" approach. Disappointing to say the least.

I haven't played a full year yet, so I'm not sure, but how do you get young talent 10, 11, 14 years into your career mode?

you can only do 15 years. I haven't got that far into it but it would have to be from other teams signing new players, or with current players only.

So are there no newly generated players added to the database?

Could this be why one of the posters saw a player that was 44 still playing five years in?

Is it possible that there are no retirements because there are no new young players in MM? So all of the players that start in MM just stay and circulate around for fifteen years?

Tomorrow I will sim out until the end of MM and post up what the rosters look like.

Hopefully that is not the case but I am not sure.

Also if it makes it an better the 44 year old was Marcus Hahnemann the keeper for Wolvehampton. Although 44 is old it is not out of the realm of possibility for a keeper. Now if it was field player I would be terrified.

Re: Fifa 11 Scouting and Career Mode

This seems like another example of the kind of thing that EA should have noticed when they were testing the game ... they really should test all of the modes (not just online play) for the duration of the mode (i.e. career mode can last for 15 seasons).

Finding and developing new players is one of the main enjoyments of *manager mode* - that is one of the roles of being the manager!

There must be some way for new players (18 - 21 years old) to enter the system somehow. It will be more annoying if I have to allow other CPU teams to get "first dibs" on these new players - and then force me to acquire them through the transfer process.

Why would they leave this out? How does this omission "improve" the mode?

I'm running a test now to see. I'll be looking closely for new players (age 17 after the first year) and retirements. It takes forever to sim a season so it might be a while.

Re: Fifa 11 Scouting and Career Mode

I've simmed through four seasons so far and there are some positive and negative observations.

                      1. There are definitely newly generated players. The first two seasons I was discouraged to see a dwindling number of 17 year old players in the transfer search, but then the next two seasons yielded over 50.

                      2. Players do seem to retire, but the logic is bizarre. It seems automatically built in that once they reach 45, they "retire." This has some unfortunate implications as I noticed Ryan Giggs at age 40 was still playing for United and still rated an 81. Paul Scholes, still at United at 39, rated 78. Even Sol Campbell was still kicking around at 39, though at Wigan.

I was inclined to think that players only retire at 45, except for the fact that Drogba has mysteriously disappeared. I'm not sure if he has "retired" in the game or simply vanished from the database in an error.

In any case there are far too many older players in the game to the point that it's silly. After four seasons there were 39 players still active age 41, and over 50 players still active at age 40. The worst part is that some of the bigger clubs have a ton of players in their late thirties and early forties in the squad. I know AC Milan have fielded some pretty ancient teams in recent years, but in the 2014 season They had a bunch of players 37 or older still rated pretty well, as outlined below.

                      M. Ambrosini, 37 79ovr
                      A. Nesta, 38 81ovr
                      C. Seedorf, 38 79ovr
                      F. Inzaghi, 40 74ovr
                      F. Roma, 40, 71ovr

Here's a list of notable outfield players that were still playing at age 40 at major clubs:

                      R. Giggs - United
                      J. Zanetti - Inter
                      F. Inzaghi - AC Milan
                      K. Phillips - Bolton
                      F. Roma - AC Milan

                      3. There is clearly no scouting for younger players. It is also appears that young players are not automatically added to your club if you decide to not re-sign players. It seems the only way to get a young player is to search the database and complete a transfer for one. Your own team doesn't seem to produce any young players.

So it seems career mode is pretty lacking in terms of retirement logic for players. Many maintain ratings that are far too high past age 35. The introduction of new players to the database is pretty basic, but it's there. Overall, the personnel in MM might be pretty screwy in terms of age the later you get into it.

I wonder if less skilled players retire at an earlier age. Maybe these guys are sticking around because the aging curve is a little off and they aren't declining fast enough at older ages.

That's weird because in FIFA 10 players noticeably declined once they got older. They had a big "to-do" about the new graphs and progression.

I had some questions about this too, specifically how new young players are introduced - do they ever show up on your team as "youth academy" products or do they only show up on other teams at random and you have to buy them?

Also, how does the quality of these young regens look? Are there any future superstars being created?

Taking a closer look it does seem like you do get some youth academy players introduced to your squad. I didn't notice them at the bottom of the squad list.

To answer your second question though, I did see a few youngsters appear pretty high ratings from the start. Saw that Chelsea had one generated 17 year old Ivorian rated 78ovr.
