Great work on those generic sets Krebstar! Played and watched some games with lower league sides using different combinations with very real results. We're getting somewhere here!

I've got one done for Man City, let me know if you think its accurate.

On a side note, is there any chance you could post a full list of which teams you're allocating to each one of those generic sets in your game? I know it'll take a while but I'm sure a lot people would appreciate it if, like me, they're clueless about the real-life playing styles of lower league FA teams.

Here's that Man City set. Aggressive in attack and defense, with an emphasis on getting the ball forward quickly and with plenty of crosses fed into the box.

Just a heads up, I want to attempt to revive this a bit. I think with the combination of sliders and tactics the game can still be nice against the AI.

I think we might have to go with just a large set of "generic" tactics. Just as many different kinds as possible and assign them to teams.

My hopes are rather low that this can make me get back into FIFA, but I want to give it a shot. Especially after finding this site:

Basically, it's just a great resource to see how teams play. My goal is to make many generic sets of CTTs and then apply them to teams, which that site will come in handy for. See teams possession, shooting average, etc. Also, for the bigger leagues, there are characteristics for each team.

I started doing some testing last night and I was fairly happy with the results. Unless a team only plays counter-attacking football, the build up speed needs to be low for realistic attacks from the AI. Even setting buildup to slow and passing to long, you still get realistic long ball tactics, but the AI will still slow down and build.

Also, as much as I hate to say it, each team may need a custom formation. Once again, it would just be generic ones assigned to different teams. This is because when you look at the default formations the AI uses, they're rubbish. All midfielders are set to "normal" for attacking, which is why most AI attacks are two strikers against 4-6 defenders. If we make basic formations 442, 4231, 4411, 44312 and so on, we can give them better settings such as defenders not attacking and midfielders set to 'high' attacking so the AI actually builds attacks.

I could be crazy, but I really feel with tweaking, this game can be pretty damn realistic. It'll take a bit of time, but honestly not a ton.

Anyone know off the top of their head how many custom formations we can have in the game?

For some reason I thought it was 10, so that is good news. I know CTTs are 28. That should be enough to have a wide variety of teams, no problem. Since I'm bored at work and can't play FIFA, I'm making formation templates now.

10 wouldn't be the end of the world, as with a ton of CTTs, it's a lot of different playing styles. This is what the formation guides will look like. Just on this one you can see the difference between it and one of the default ones. On the default ones, there is way too much yellow which I feel causes players to just remain neutral. Midfielders don't run up and join attacks, for example.



So, there will be a final spread sheet that states what formation and tactic each team uses. So it'll say something like 4-4-2 v1 and whatever the tactics end up being called.

It'll be a slow trickle, although I have nothing going on this weekend, ha. Formations will take longer than tactics.

If anyone else is reading and can provide a list of formations, that would be great.

Just for reference, these are the default ones in the game(18). Some most likely will not be used, such as those with 3 or 5 to start, haha. The goal will be for each formation in the game to have 2-3 variations, if not a few more.

Now, just to give an example, out of the 20 EPL teams this year, there are only 5 basic formations being used. They're listed below, along with how any teams are using them. Now, some of each are very different and some are similar. That is how I think this will work. Man United's 4-4-2 is different than Wolves, for example. That, coupled with CTTs is how we'll get these teams playing differently. So for formations such as the 4-4-2, there actually could be about four different variations we put in the game.

4-3-3 (3)
4-2-3-1 (3)
4-5-1

Eight teams use a 4-4-2, but even if we assign the same to a few, they'll be different. One could be smacking it long and the other could be playing it on the ground. Same formation and different tactics shall be the key.

Preliminary EPL tactics have been entered on the spreadsheet which can be viewed here:

These are preliminary and there are a total of 9 for 20 different teams. Four teams have their own, the others share and if the row is the same color, it's the same numbers. There are still 19 more custom tactic slots, so there is plenty to do other leagues. Once the big five leagues are done or close to being done, we can go back and see if any teams get their own.

Also, if anyone sees anything they hugely disagree with, such as two teams with the same tactics, please say so and we'll sort it out.

Lastly, I'll attempt to upload the squad file for people to download so they don't have to enter them all on their own. I may do this soon for the EPL teams or wait until more are put in. I'll at least be waiting until all formations are in for the EPL before I share the squad file.

Some great work going on in here, nice one guys.

A quick question. If I'm mid-career will the changes still take effect? I know I selected current customized at the start, hoping that means yes? Means I'd be able to carry on this career, updating things when required, rather than starting again.
