Re: Some things are really starting to get on my nerves.

I have noticed in my last couple of games that easing off the teammate contain in the midfield and high in the defensive zone has resulted in less ninja dribbling. I'm trying to use more of that strategy of "steering" the opponent to where I want him to go by blocking his passing lanes and attacking lanes. I'm trying to focus less on defending the ball, per se, and defending the direction of the attack.

eyeamg0dly is right that I think you see less ninja dribbling if you are not constantly marking the carrier tightly all over the pitch. Generally, if you aggressively play the ball in the box, you will have support and the CPU's ninja dribbling doesn't really help much, but in open spaces, it will.

Well that's because the CPU has no need to ninja dribble if you're not pressuring it. As Gonira pointed out the other day, the real problem is when you DO try and pressure, the CPU psychically ninja's away every time, making slide tackling entirely redundant and useless in this year's game. So the only way you ever get yellows is if you intentionally set out to trip the CPU. Because it's next to impossible to touch them otherwise.

This is so true. Like a lot of others, on Legendary, I am convinced that the CPU is programmed to change directions when you hit any button. Sliding tackle and/or standing tackle. Especially on Legendary. This is the main reason I went back to Legacy Defending. The main reason is the secondary press button that I can use to make tackles when needed. The interesting thing is that it feels like it works sometimes and at other times my defenders don't even respond to it.

You needed convincing? Had the funniest example of that a couple days ago. Just for the heck of it, I tried a slide tackle a good ten feet from the ball carrier. There was even one of my own CPU-controlled teammates between me and the CPU player. Sure enough, the moment I hit the slide tackle button, zang! The CPU player cuts sharply and heads off in another direction. I just laughed and shook my head, what else can you do?

I think the key, then, is to shift away from that defensive strategy. I finally bumped up Legendary and played my first game on that last night, and I continued to loosen up the contain pressure in the midfield. Yeah, I gave up some possession percentage, but I kept noticing that the CPU would pass the ball more, and the more the CPU passed, the greater the likelihood for an interception or a bad pass out of bounds. I forced a ton of turnovers by loosening up the pressure on the ball and focusing on blocking the downfield passing lanes. I only applied contain pressure as the ball neared the box. End result was I held Fulham to only 4 shots on goal, in 15 minute halves, and no real cheesy ninja tactics.

I think that that is how the programmers want you to defend now. Constantly pressuring the ball in the new era of Tactical Defending might be a bit of a square peg in a round hole, or at least an oval peg. I guess that is what I was getting at with my earlier reply.

What happens if you want to play a high-pressure style ala Barca or Man United?

Doesn't matter what game it is (FIFA, NCAA, Madden), physic defending/movement shouldn't be programmed into the game.
