    Preaching to the temple, man!

I can't remember the last time I beat Crystal Palace. Every time I play them, Glenn Murray turns up and plays like Pele.

He's good, I get it. But I don't think beating four players and smashing one from 30 yards out should be the main source of his goals.

Easy way to top God mode is to drop all the way defensive, bring a 5th defender on around the 78th minute and set up to counter attack. I very rarely get scored on when the CPU goes to God mode. Actually prefer to crawl into a defensive shell than counter. Make sure the back 5 keep shape and dump the ball all the way down giving the mid and defender time to regroup and organize.
In my last game against Bayern, a 2-1 win for BvB, the CPU took 10 shots in the last 10 minutes. But because the defense was organized and held form none were a serious challenge.

Could I get you to get on the pitch IRL and get Palace back to winning?
If it helps, QPR had Palace on their heels late in a Cup match, then Taarabt drills one from the top of the box into the upper corner at the 90' mark to level. Lucked out on a bad pass, quick throw and Easter finally getting one passed Caesar in play during extra time. Now I've got an exhausted squad getting ready to face Cardiff next match holding a one point advantage for fifth. Really could have used the extra 30 minutes rest. I can't get Murray to score from anywhere beyond the spot.

If you can't get Murray to score, have him pick the ball up deeper and fire away from distances you should have no business scoring from. That's usually how he does it against me.

I just had another of these games and, lo and behold, it was against Almighty Villa. LMAO.

            *sigh*

There was a moment in the 75th minute, before God Mode had even kicked in, when Stephen Warnock quite literally started to behave as though he were possessed by the devil. We'll call it Devil Mode. He ran around like a raped ape on fire, perfectly executing tackles from every angle imaginable. At one point, my best Winger was essentially hogtied by him, trying to run a ball out to the touchline. There was so much shirt grabbing, it was as though my winger was suddenly glued to Warnock. The ref cared not at all.

I hate the lack of fouls in this game. It's just not acceptable and EA needs to figure it out.

NHL 13 has something similar going on. In the final minute it is almost impossible to stop your opponent from scoring.

As for FIFA. I can not say I have seen this too much. Matter a fact the most disappointing game of the year for me so far was against Man U. I play as Manchester City but Mario was out injured. I ended up beating Man U by 4 goals!!! The largest margin of victory all season. They were horrible.

I just played a Capital One Cup final against Chelsea. It was an outstanding looking game of football, video game or not. I scored a goal in the 28th minute from a perfectly placed finesse shot, top right corner, and held on to win 1-0 even though Chelsea were like demons the entire second half. It was amazing.

Just another comment on the CPU "God-mode" ...

... it also turns on right after you score a goal. The game could be scoreless for 70 minutes, with the CPU having only one shot on target throughout ... but as soon as I (finally) get one to go in ... the CPU scores right away (on only their second shot-on-target - of course) to level ... even though they had hardly threatened for the previous entirety of the match.

I call this the "Instant Goal" ... and it is really annoying ... especially when it ruins my clean sheet very late on in the match.

                  Grrrrr ...

That's actually really common in real life. Getting scored on sparks a fire and an aura of desperation to get back into the game. Barcelona scored on Real Madrid like 4 seconds after they conceded in the Spanish Supercup this year and Real was taking them to the absolute limit.

I really don't mind the "instant reaction" goals from teams.

I've actually observed in FIFA that this can go both ways. Sometimes, in a tightly contested fixture, I'll score a goal and the other team will react with deflated, passive play, as though I've broke their spirit.

At other times, and more frequently, it lights a fire under them and they come out swinging. When that happens, I batten down the hatches and go Ultra Defensive with a custom tactic I've created for possession. I don't like the default Possession quick tactics.

My two matches last night were the bottom table teams with the GK that becomes The Wall.

Vs Troyes I had 16 shots on goal and 0 goals.

vs. FC Lorient I had 18 shots on goal compared to their 2. tied 1-1.

Yes, that has been a problem in every FIFA for years now.

It cuts both ways though. By far, the easiest position on my team to maintain 7.0+ form with is Goalkeeper.

When I trot out a keeper with an OVR of around 68-70, he still manages to keep excellent form, even if he's conceded 2 or 3 goals.

Meanwhile, I can have a midfielder play out of his skin, intercepting passes, tackling, holding, etc. and be lucky to end the match with a form rating above 6.5 or so.

This is something EA really needs to get their heads around.

This happens in PES as well, usually go all out defensive after goal tactics wise in both games.

That is good advice. Always switch to defensive tactics/formations and keep passing the ball around. Don't let the cpu players get near you. You'll always end up being tackled. Remember the cpu goes all out offensive during 'God Mode'. That means their defensive line becomes vulnerable, giving you a chance to counter attack and score that killer goal.

I've noticed this effect also. As a previous poster stated, NHL is bad for this also - certain games you just arent meant to win, and there are late-game blitzes that usually result in a comeback.

One way I found to reduce this effect, and in fact counteract it is(this works on and offline), to make solid, safe passes and maintain control. Sometimes its counter-intuitive to what you want to do, or what you feel like you need to do. I find making safe, smart passes and always making the safe play will dampen the other team's momentum.
