    Re: Unwinnable Career Mode Fixtures

It's funny that the CPU pressure is stepped up noticably right after a goal or in the final 10 minutes of a game when down, just as it often is in real life. As well, the advice folks give to counter this is to play more defensively, bunker down, make short sure passes to control the ball and keep it out of the hands of the team that is down and look for opportunities to counter, just like in real life. If you're up a goal late in the match in real life you don't play the game in the 85th minute the same way you do in the 38th minute. I know it is frustrating to many but in a way I'm actually impressed the programmers got the time a team strikes back or applies the pressure right for a change. But I wonder how my CPU feels after I got an equalizer in the 90th minute yesterday of a rebound from the woodwork?

I find that I almost try to hard to be perfect and make mistakes after scoring goals. All because I know the CPU will be going into god mode.

I've tried this both ways, numerous times, and I can safely say from experience that it doesn't matter what I do. The results vary tremendously. I can play cautiously, park the bus, utterly cynical fire drill where I clear virtually every ball that comes my way. Or, I can play loose, keep a balanced shape and mentality, try to score another goal here or there, safely counter, etc.

It doesn't matter. EA Does What EA Wants To Do.

The scripting is really transparent at times. It has soured my enjoyment of FIFA 13, but because I understand why it's in the game, I try to ignore it.

I had one of these in my first Champions League match in my managing career against Ajax. I put out a very solid squad with a lot of skill and pace, but Ajax was too quick and all the random bounces seemed to go their way. I also seemed like I hit the post/crossbar or just missed the goal by inches 100 times.

It's all good though. I'll get my revenge later in the group stage.

I also wonder if this is EA implementing match fixing.. You know they say, "It's in the game."

I also find, especially online, that if you dominate heavily very early in the game, and fail to capitilize, the game seems to punish you somehow. Like clockwork, when I play online, any teams I destroy "gameplay-wise" and I dont score, they make their first attempt on goal and get some hilarious magical bounces and score a ridiculous goal. EVERY. TIME.

I play full-manual, my passing is generally good between 75%-90% all game long, but my shooting is sometimes a bit awry. The game seems to penalize you for this.

I find that a good tactic for dealing with the CPU's God-mode is to go into counterattack mode. Often times, it nets me that late goal to put them away (and I use Orion's sliders on Legendary).

                      Re: Unwinnable Career Mode Fixtures

I find that my unwinnable games come from the CPU goalie going into god-mod, not their offense.

If I give up a goal, i usually feel i deserved it. But I've had way too many games where I'm playing some ****ty team and their goalie stops 8 shots fired from inside 10 yards.

Its also painfully obvious that the CPU (at least on world class) operates under totally different laws of physics than my players do. On 50/50 tackles my guys go down like they were shot, while the CPU takes a very minor stumble and just keeps on going.

I've had some frustrating moments with this game, but never really encountered an unwinnable match until today. I'm managing Sweden playing against Spain in the World Cup. Obviously Spain is a far superior, faster team, but I have played this match 7 times now and can't win. Every foul goes against me, I'll be pulled down in the box before a shot and there's no call, but if I bump one of their players they get a free kick. Shots hit the post, goalie makes unreal saves, CPU always catches up to my strikers, etc. I don't believe the game has been pre-determined, but it certainly seems like something is going on to stack the odds in their favour.

                          Re: Unwinnable Career Mode Fixtures

I feel like I ran into one of these games today.

Managing Team USA, I played Germany in the round of 16. I felt like I couldn't take even a single touch on the ball most of the time or I was going to lose it. Passing was horrible, couldn't string more than 3-4 passes together before getting intercepted or tackled as I was receiving the pass, got literally no fouls called in my favor the entire game (had two pretty clear penalties, one which I did score on and another two blatant fouls just outside the box that weren't called even though the CPU literally kicked my player in the face after missing the ball on one occasion), and had one immensely soft penalty called against me about 5 minutes (game time, I scored in the 57th, penalty awarded in the 62nd) after I equalized to tie the game at 1-1. It took a herculean effort to get my second goal and I should have sealed the game in the 89th minute, but it just wasn't meant to be.

I had a clear breakaway, had beaten my man down the right side and I was nearing the box so I start to cut in, take it inside the box right down to the touch line and a man is trailing across the face of goal so I try to pass it to him for the cutback goal. He is being covered from behind somewhat and the guy covering him goes to intercept the pass in front of him, but the great thing is, the keeper just tips the ball and it bounces right to my striker's feet. Now, the defender over pursues his tackle and trips over the keeper (who is flailing on the ground at this point), and while my striker takes a million years to line up a tap in from ~5 yards out, the defender manages to get up, recognize where the ball is, and get in the way for the crucial block to save his team at the last and send it in to overtime. The guy actually tripped over the keeper after the keeper tipped the ball initially, and got up before the keeper was able to get up himself to make the save. Who needs keepers when you have outfield players like that?

And if that wasn't enough, the game ends 2-2 (after I peppered the CPU's goal with shots of all kinds in OT) and goes to a penalty shootout in which the following occurs. My first two penalties get saved, both aimed for the top right corner of the goal. Their first two penalties are good, both straight down the middle. I'm pretty much sunk at this point, so I decide to keep going to the upper right corner, probably against my better judgment. The next penalty went in (keeper guessed the right way still), but then the next one was saved. The CPU's two penalties in the mean time? Both were shots straight down the middle. CPU wins the shootout 4-1.

I get that keepers guess the right way sometimes, but 100% of the time? Not to mention guessing the exact same penalty placement each time?

I get that guys shoot the ball down the middle on penalties sometimes, but 100% of the time? During a WORLD CUP ELIMINATION MATCH? Come on, get real EA.

Maybe I'm just flummoxed that I was outfoxed by the CPU in a penalty shootout, but I really felt pretty hard done by that game.

I hear you mate. I recently played against Milton Keynes Dons in my Crawley Town career. Match ended with a 3-3 draw. They had three silly penalties awarded in their favour. Not even once I pressed the tackle button. They wanted to win the match so bad. Ridiculous stuff! Now I'm being extra careful around the box in order to avoid silly foul calls. Since then MK Dons are doing pretty bad in the league. I guess it is karma.

I feel this thread to my bones. Winning 1-0 with United over PSG i suffered the worst god mode goal i have ever had. Their striker ran into the box, flanked by 2 defenders, i was controlling the 1 in front. This was in the very corner of the box and he would have had to shoot through 6 players and the keeper to score. The player behind him who was a 92 rated CB (youth academy) did not even touch the striker and yet the striker gets sniped from the crowd. Of course it was a yellow, penalty converted, i bow out of the champions league. I watched the replay, at no point did either player even touch him. The game decided that diving was ok for the other team but only if it ****s you. In that game i hit the post 3 times from within the penalty box as well. The only way i could score was dribble the ball around the box for 2 minutes till eventually i got the "running at goal, facing far post angle."

Man, reAding this thread you just just feel the frustration. As for the ref complaints, I really don't think it the CPU cheating, it's just a limitation of the game itself, There are way too many missed calls in the game and its a shame too because its the main thing that holds it back from being a truly special game. As for the 80th minute nonsense that I'm sure we've all fell victim too I have a theory on that. During nearly all matches, I pretty much maintain a possession advantage, mainly because I was using the sprint a lot. What I found was this was gassing my team near the end of games, allowing the Fresher CPU to really take over when they ratchet up the pressure. Lately I've laid off the sprint and it has been helping immensely. Hope this helps!
