    Playing With Manual Controls

    Hey all

I recently joined the foums a few weeks ago after stalking the career mode and sliders threads. Inspired by the posts I decided to implement the sliders to make the game more realistic, but the biggest improvement came from playing on manual.

I decided to start this thread so that we could all share any experience we may have with manual. My hope is that other people would see that despite the learning curve manual is fun and rewarding. Tips, highlights, whatever you got, give it up!

I can't post the links right now but check out Flourescent Fifa on YouTube. He has tons of manual videos including a tutorial for making the switch.

I never even thought of using manual controls until I started lurking in the FIFA forums and since then I have been trying but have been struggling a lot with it. Any advice would be wonderful!!

Well, you guys guys made the right choice. Full manual settings is the way to go in FIFA. You won't get most of your passes and shots on target at first. But no matter how frustrating that is, don't go back to assisted. Just keep playing more matches. Believe me, it'll become second nature in no time.

The first link is the first video in his series which will introduce you to full manual. The second is a pretty cool demonstration on what you can do once you've got it down. Enjoy.

Shooting is much more powerful and accurate when shooting while holding the sprint trigger. This is the opposite of PES where maximum accuracy is obtained by releasing the sprint trigger just before shooting.

Really? I would understand shots being more powerful, but I generally lay off of the sprint when I shoot because as I understood it you sacrifice control. Does this apply to all players or just those with good finishing?

All I can say is go to the arena and try both ways. These are my findings after hours of shooting in the arena. I use a player with 99 shooting ratings across the board, so I don't know about players with lesser shooting skills. Just my opinion/experience as I said.

                  Re: Playing With Manual Controls

manual controls are the way to go man by far, and there are many other slider changes that can improve the game. I will say for the sake of passing right now, increase the passing speed to 55 for the user, and 60 for the cpu (so they won't be giving the ball away so often).

I also increase the passing inaccuracy slightly, I can't remember the exact slider this second though. I'll be back with more information, I didn't know anyone was even considering to play with fully manual controls, so I never bothered sharing my information.

while you wait, perhaps you can check out a recent ea sports video of mine, it's not impossible to play but it's very much a challenge. What I do suggest to those playing manual controls is be a lot more judicious with your choices in the game or you will draw a lot of bad turnovers. You'll love when you get the hang of it, also utilize the training, that will get you ready quicker, it will always be a challenge though, that's why I said make even better decisions on the game if you use these controls

anyhow, I have much better video than this that I can share but here's a glance at gameplay on manual:

                    Re: Playing With Manual Controls

Playing with full manual had the benefit of increasing my percentage of possession as well as my ability to use skill moves. While I was getting used to passing I wouldn't actually make a pass unless I was absolutely sure I could do it accurately which led to me using skill moves to keep possession longer with the same player. Once I got the hang of it I was then able to complete passes I was previously unable to. With the two combined my possession is now 60% on average. Yet another reason to play manual.

                      Re: Playing With Manual Controls

yea alot of the gameplay variation is caused by the slider customization + levels your playing. for example, i'd rarely be able to hold the ball in such a way because I have the defensive marking sliders up to 90 out of 100 and you won't run by defenders with the ball often. So passing the ball & one touches are required or you may get double teamed.

but I love how much manual controls could potentially open up a game, not impossible to use and can be very rewarding

(attackers pressure and defense turns the danger into offense)

(play out the back, with defensive pressure at 90/100)

(cautious play as liverpool progresses up the field against fulham)
