I'll probably post the beginning of the new season over the weekend since I'm quite busy during the week. I'm also lagging behind on giving feedback to you guys, so that's also something I'll try to do in the next few days.-Simppu12-

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
I'm getting ready to post an intro to my other career I will be running alongside Grimsby. This one will have some house rules in place and a set of sliders to make it as difficult as possible. I'm hoping that it will prove to be a struggle to progress through the leagues in this one. I'll include the house rules in a spoiler tag when I post the intro as well.Comment

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Club in Crisis
Blackpool Football Club
Managerial hell. Blackpool F.C. was once at the pinnacle of English football, the Premier League. Their stay lasted only a single season as they were relegated on the final day of the season against Manchester United. That's nothing out of the ordinary though, newly promoted teams constantly see themselves facing relegation in their first season. What happened after that tells the true story of the mess that Blackpool has become. But first, let's talk about the history that has led the club up to this point.
Blackpool Football Club was founded in 1887 as a result of a merger between the remnants of Victoria F.C. and St. John's School to form one single club to represent the town. After early success in the local Lacanshire League, they became full members of the Football League in 1896, although they dropped back out after a season and then were readmitted once again in 1899. It was around this time that they moved in to their current home ground, Bloomfield Road. The early 20th century brought a mixed bag of results as they finished all up and down the league table, even achieving promotion to the first division a couple of times. They had finally established themselves as a force in the first division when WW2 intervened and all competitions were suspended for the duration of the war. The years after the war started the greatest period of success that the club has seen. They won the F.A. Cup in 1953, had regular English national team players, and achieved their highest ever finish coming in as runners-up to Manchester United in 1956. The later half of the 20th century was the beginning of a decline that ultimately saw them relegated down to the 4th division by 1980. The current owners, the Oyston family bought the controlling interest in the club in 1988 beginning what would later be revealed as a nightmare for the supporters.
The club moved up and down the lower divisions for years, never quite reaching the first division. In 2006 Valeri Belokon purchased a 20% stake in the club, beginning what would be a change in fortunes as the club added a partial owner that was willing to invest funds into the improvement of the quality of players at the club. In 2009 Holloway was appointed as the manager, and he made use of those funds that Belokon was providing and turned around the fortunes of the club right away. In his first season in charge he led the team to a sixth place finish qualifying for the playoffs where they defeated Nottingham Forest and then Cardiff City to secure their spot in the Premier League for the first time since the leagues formation. In what should have been one of the highlights of the club's history, it would later turn out to mark the beginning of the club's downfall.
In just 5 years, the club went from the Premier League to the lowest division of the English Football League. Despite earning over £100,000,000 from their single year in the Premier League, almost none of that money was ever put into squad development. The Oystons instead chose to line their own pockets, awarding themselves lavish bonuses and payouts. The fans, and even part owner Belokon, grew disillusioned with the Oystons as they began to see the greed of the owners. It only amplified as they continued to plummet down the ranks of the Football League. The unwillingness to spend on players was so much, that prior to the 2014/15 season the club only had seven professional players when Neil McDonald took over. It was a job that was destined to fail from the start. The frustrations boiled over to the point that in September of 2015, Belokon opened up legal action against the Oystons on the grounds of improper use of club funds. Meanwhile, the supporters mounted protest after protest while attempting to gather support to fund a supporters takeover of the club.
2016/17 Season, League 2
It's a new season for Blackpool, and as has become customary lately, that means a new manager as well. The newest man in charge is David Healy. Healy has most recently spent time managing Linfield in the Northern Irish Football League where he led them to a 2nd place finish in his first season in charge. Healy is familiar with English football, having spent the majority of his career playing for a number of clubs throughout the country. During that time he also established himself as the third most capped player in the history of Northern Ireland. Now, he joins a club in turmoil. He will have an owner who prefers to stuff his own pockets rather than invest into the success of the club, and he will have to find ways to please a group of fervent supporters who have just about had enough of the establishment in place. If he can reignite what was once considered one of the most fanatical group of supporters, he can really create something special. But, all of that will have to be done in spite of the owners, rather than with the support of. This will be the challenge of a lifetime as he tries to revive a club with the worst owners, one of the worst training grounds, and yet still with high expectations.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
@texasbum06 has this CM taken the place of Grimsby Town. Also these are the same house rules I go by. These house rules make it challenging, especially when so players start to gel then a top team picks them up.
Notts County March April Update.
The season was looking bleak as far as winning League One title. Then the next I know the lads started a push for the Championship. The month of March saw us erase a 9 point deficit to capture the top of the league.
Then during the month April saw us continue that same brand of play. During these last 11 matches we had only one draw at the beginning, then went on win the remaining matches. These matches included a rematch with Rotherham a team who beaten us twice earlier. One eeked out a 1-0 win on their ground to help solidify our championship goal.
On a sad note, playing the last match of the season saw Alan Smith take place in his last match(retirement) a true leader of the team. But even more devastating John Akinde went with an apparent knee injury. It was confirmed he had a MCL and will be gone 7 months possibly half way into next season.
The promotions went Notts County, Rotherham, and Oxford United.Currently playing: (In order of Most Time)

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
Grimsby will still continue since I love my team on that one haha. And yeah I thought they looked like what you were talking about, I even mentioned in an earlier post that the career would probably be pretty similar to yours. It definitely looks like a new challenge that I'm hoping will be fun!Comment

@texasbum06 and @poulka - House rules make it so much more difficult to get promoted. Best of luck to you guys!
Latest Premier League Update
Spoiler
Sunday Morning Edition
Good morning and welcome to 5 Live Sunday. We will be going around the grounds with post match interviews from Saturday's fixtures plus taking a quick look at the three matches scheduled today. Let's get right to it and head out to the Stadium of Light where David Moyes watched his team have a guy sent off an a terrible own goal to lose in their opening match.
Spoiler
Reporter - David, what was going through your mind in the last 5 minutes of the first half? Seeing a man sent off and then that horrendous own goal.
Moyes - It was a brutal stretch. Outside of those few minutes I think we were the better side today, even down a man. But we need to score more and not beat ourselves like we did today.
Reporter - And John O'Shea, did he have any words at halftime about the own goal?
Moyes - No, no we didn't discuss it but I'm sure he feels terrible about it. That was obvious a miss communication between him and the keeper but I'm not concerned. John is a top player and will come back better next week.
Interesting for Moyes to think Sunderland were the better side as the Black Cats showed no threat on goal after Defoe's goal. According to Pulis, that was by design.
Reporter - 2-1 win but no shots on target once Sunderland went down to 10 men?
Pulis - No, we told the boys at half to attack if they can but don't let anyone get in behind us. Up by a goal and a man, we were focused on just seeing out the result and getting the 3 points.
Reporter - Chadli scored the pen and then went down with a nasty tackle late in the match. Any word on his injury?
Pulis - Just an ankle twist, nothing too concerning and we except him to be available next weekend.
The Saturday night matchup was a London derby as West Ham hosted Arsenal. But this didn't play out like a normal derby, West Ham showed no fight or determination to win it.
Reporter - Pretty one sided affair out there tonight, did you outplay them by that much or do you think Payet missing is hurting West Ham's attack?
Wenger - Look, uh, I never want to make judgement on another club. I think we played very well. Any time you can win and keep a clean sheet it is a good thing.
Reporter - 5 shots for Giroud, didn't find the target once. Concerning?
Wenger - No.
That will do it for our post match interviews from the Saturday fixtures. Don't forget today we have the early kickoff between Watford and Spurs. Then mid-day is Wolves making their Premier League return vs Manchester City. All leading up to tonight's match between Aston Villa and Manchester United.
Thanks for listening and remember, if you have thoughts or questions on any games of the week. Write us in and we will discuss!
Table through Friday and Saturday games

The Exiles go into their third consecutive season in the BPL as a team that offers a lot of curiosity. Newport County is no longer a club that will sneak up on anyone as a surprise contender in the league but they are also far from being a prime pick to be league champions. That being said, Giovanni Marccelino's squad will get a taste of what is like to be one of the best teams in the league as the club's board reportedly expects them to at least replicate their positioning in the standings over the last couple of seasons. Marccelino welcomes the challenge of following up on back-to-back top-5 finishes in the league mostly because he would like to see his squad break into the top 4 teams in the league to qualify for next season's Champions League. Expectations also include The Exiles winning the UEL now that they return to the competition for a third consecutive time following back-to-back runs into the quarter finals, as well as a run into the quarter finals of the F.A. Cup. Luckily for Marccelino the increased expectations come with an increased budget. Newport County reportedly starts the season with a €26.5 million transfer budget and €130K wage budget, increases of €9.5 million and €50K respectively, certainly a more competitive budget considering the kind of money other BPL teams regularly throw around during transfer windows.
For pre-season this summer The Exiles accepted an invitation to participate in the European Continental Shield (ECS) taking place in Marccelino's homeland, Italy. Below is a look at how pre-season went:
SpoilerECS - Group Match 1
Newport County - Stade Rennais FC (2-2)
Potter 18' (Gordon)
Boga 33'
Gersbeck 63' (Embolo)
Saïd 69'
Boëtius 86'
This was an entertaining start to pre-season in which Marccelino started a mix of his A and B squads. The Exiles may have gotten lucky with the draw after failing to get an edge on either possession (44%) or shots (5 compared to 8 from the French club)
ECS - Group Match 2
Fiorentina - Newport County (2-4)
Pogba 11' (pen)
Rennella 45+2'
Rebić 51'
Pogba 56'
Moore 90+1' (Gersbeck)
Allen 90+3' (Embolo)
Luca Lezzerini saved penalty kicks from Ron Vlaar and Nicolas Gersbeck to help Fiorentina stay in this game but a couple of stoppage time goals from Newport County put the Italian goalkeeper's effort to waste. Newport County looked much better on attack in this game, firing off 14 shots (7 on target).
ECS - Group Match 3
Newport County - Olym. Lyon (5-0)
Embolo 6' (Ringdal Støvland)
Al Shahrani 9' (Potter)
Vlaar 20' (Potter)
Fox 55' (Ringdal Støvland)
Embolo 74'
Al Sharani 76'
What on paper looked to be the toughest match in the group stage for The Exiles turned out to be a laugher as Newport County scored early and often on Lyon's backup GK, Lucas Mocio. Clubs routinely give backup players a chance to show their worth in pre-season tournaments but Mocio failed big time as Marccelino's club clinched a spot into the semi finals and sent Lyon packing in the process.
ECS - Semi Final
Newport County - Lazio (1-0)
Ringdal Støvland 45+2' (Moore)
Zouma 31'
Gordon 65'
Guerreiro 18' (dislocated shoulder, out for 8 weeks)
Kjetil Ringdal Støvland finally made an appearance in the scoring sheet that turned out to be timely as his goal was the only one in this game to book The Exiles into the ECS final. Perhaps the bigger news is Raphaël Guerreiro's injury which could keep him out of action until early September.
ECS - Final
Milan - Newport County (1-0)
De Sciglio 45'
Pogba 79' (broken toe, out for 2 months)
The Exiles lost twice, getting shouted out of the scoring sheet despite having 8 of their 11 shots on target to lose this game on Mattia De Sciglio's goal before the half, then losing last season's team MVP Paul Pogba to injury for a couple of months. Newport County will head into the season with half of their midfield sidelined with injury although luckily for them their skipper, Jefferson Farfán, should be ready to roll for the season opener after the broken toe injury he suffered this past May.
______________________________________
Transfer News- Niklas Süle (CB, 84 OVR) acquired from 1899 Hoffenheim for €30 million.
- Andrea De Girolamo (CAM, 74 OVR) loaned to Aston Villa on short-term.
______________________________________
League Match 1
Arsenal - Newport County (1-2)
Embolo 38' (Ringdal Støvland)
Gordon 57' (Moore)
Coquelin 79'
The Exiles played a very compact game and were very efficient on the attack to start off their season with a huge road win at the Emirates Stadium. Newport County only took 4 shots but they were all on target. Embolo opened up the scoring late in the first half following a cheeky backheel assist from Ringdal Støvland. Then in the 57th minute Bondz Moore, who did a great job filling in for Guerreiro, lobbed a perfect cross towards Clark Gordon who headed the ball into the net for what would be the game-winning goal. On defense Marccelino's squad flustered Arsenal's attack in Süle's debut.
Ringdal Støvland's backheel assist to Embolo for the opening score.

Transfer News- Jeff Cohen (LB, 66 OVR) loaned to Shrewsbury on short-term.
- Miguel De Mesquites (RB, 62 OVR) sold to Liverpool for €750K
______________________________________
League Match 2
Newport County - Hull City (1-1)
Palacios 22'
Ringdal Støvland 90+1' (Farfán)
RS saved the day on The Exiles home opener, receiving a long grounded pass from a free kick near midfield then sealing off his defender to turn around and fire a powerful crossing shot, finally beating Bill Hamid. The former Exiles' goalkeeper was outstanding on this day collecting 7 saves, each seemingly more impressive than the previous one.
______________________________________
Transfer News- Gary Woods (CM, 71 OVR) sold to Norwich for €2.5 million.
- Eiichi Suzuki (GK, 71 OVR) sold to Derby County for €2.5 million.
______________________________________
League Match 3
Newcastle Utd - Newport County (1-1)
Fernandes 12'
Gordon 21' (Farfán)
Zouma 16' (broken rib, out for 3 months)
Injuries keep piling up for The Exiles. Marccelino's squad was only able to salvage a draw St. James' Park despite having the better performance and received worst news after the game when told the details of Kurt Zouma's injury. That makes three Newport County starters out with injury.
League Cup - Round 2
Newport County - Wolves (1-0)
Leya Iseka 54' (Gersbeck)
Giles 74'
Aaron Leya Iseka was nearly hand-delivered a goal by Gersbeck and that was enough to help The Exiles overcome an inaccurate shooting performance to move on in the League Cup. Newport County dominated the game with possession (54%) and 13 shots but they were only on target in 5 occasions.
Wolverhampton's Benik Afobe didn't have many scoring chances. This shot was on target but saved by Hayato Matsuki.
League Match 4
Newport County - Burnley (2-1)
Moore 21' (Boëtius)
Farfán 45+3' (pen)
Grimes 84'
Ince 10' (broken elbow, out for 2 months)
That isn't a typo: The Exiles are now down to their third-choice defensive midfielder after Rohan Ince broke his elbow just four weeks into the season, this after a Paul Pogba broken toe in the final game of the pre-season. That third-choice CDM, academy-graduate Doke Boëtius, stepped up with an assist shortly after entering the game and generally played well to help The Exiles get their second win of the season after back-to-back draws in the BPL.
______________________________________
Transfer News- Tom Maguire (CB, 66 OVR) loaned to Middlesbrough on short-term.
______________________________________
Analysis: The Exiles made it through the beginning of the season undefeated and are just four points behind league-leading Tottenham, who don't appear to have dropped form after a dominant year last season. That Newport County has been able to remain competitive is just amazing considering the number of significant injuries their roster has suffered. Marccelino has worked magic as he adjusts to every injury but one has to wonder how long he'll be able to continue to avoid defeat. Guerreiro will be due back the second week of September, not a moment too soon for Exiles' fans. Next month will also bring the start of the Euro League where Newport County will be joined by Lech Poznań, FC Krasnodar, and SK Sturm Graz.
Süle, The Exiles' only acquisition this summer, has not had an easy time adjusting to his new team/league. Newport County's main squad was unable to secure a clean sheet in August, although that doesn't fall entirely on Süle's performances. The German is an outstanding defender and an incredible acquisition by the club who is likely to find his niche sooner than later. The only downside of his arrival was that it significantly limited the club's budget for the remaining of the transfer window, in which Marccelino and the board did a good of job of selling a few players no longer on the team's short and long term plans as well as finding more playing opportunities for a number of their academy graduates. Süle's arrival had one more effect on the roster as it likely nixed a reported deal between Newport County and Torino that would had sent Clark Gordon and an undisclosed fee to Italy in an exchange for Daniele Baselli, a report that only increases rumors that The Exiles may be trying to turn the page on the exciting prospect as the CAM of the future.
The Academy
(listed by their ranking in it)
RM - Tobias Perez (63 OVR, 88-94 POT): This 17-year old from France has turned out to be a great find. Scouts unanimously agree he has potential to be special and he is now the top prospect in the academy. He possesses outstanding pace (78acc/73spd) for his age to go with excellent balance (73) and curve (75) on the ball.
ST - Billel Cissé (58 OVR, 86-92): This 17-year old striker from France Standing at 5'9" and 147lbs is officially the next top prospect for the club at this position. Cissé's top attribute is his pace (73 acc, 71 spd) which should come in handy for his size. The club is working on developing his striker skills.
CDM - Pierre Tägtström (57 OVR, 79-93): 16-year old from Sweden who is next in a great lineup of defensive midfielders developed by the club since Marccelino's arrival. Described as physically strong, Tägtström's exciting potential is undeniable and he displays excellent aggressiveness (86) towards the ball. At his age and with the club's depth at the position he should be able to spend time developing in the academy without any rush.
LW - Andre Domingues (57 OVR, 77-83): 16-year old from Portugal who is starting to lose the rawness of his game and slow creeping towards his great potential. His top attribute continues to be his pace (75acc/70spd), although his agility (72) and balance (71) are also notable.
CDM - Andy Tandia (51 OVR, 75-81): Yet another defensive midfielder prospect, this 17-year old prospect from France currently projects as more of a future backup for the club.

Prized prospect, Marcos Andrade (LW, 70 OVR), has finally been promoted to the senior roster. His promotion comes at a bad time for Jack Giles who has seen his playing time decline over the last season and currently is being used in the role Andrade is most likely to compete for right away: backup wide midfielder on the left.

League Match 5
Manchester City - Newport County (2-2)
Teixeira 9'
Embolo 30' (Gordon)
Bony 45'
Ringdal Støvland 65' (Gordon)
Clark Gordon picked a great time to showcase his skills as a passer as the two goals he assisted on helped The Exiles overcome their injuries to steal a point at the Etihad Stadium. It was a fair result for an evenly-contested game.
Sebastián Vegas put his jumping ability in full display on this corner kick but made his jump too early and the ball was secured by Bernd Leno.
Jasper Cillessen helped his side avoid defeat with this tough save on a close-range shot from Mario Götze.
Euro League - Group Match 1
Newport County - FC Krasnodar (2-1)
Leya Iseka 2' (Gersbeck)
Leya Iseka 24'
Mamaev 69'
Nicolas Gersbeck had an assist and a half and Aaron Leya Iseka netted a brace as The Exiles' B-squad started Newport's UEL campaign on the right foot at home. After assisting his striking partner a couple of minutes in Gersbeck nearly scored a goal of his own in the 24th minute but his crossing shot was deflected by Andrey Sinitsyn. Unfortunately for the Russian goalkeeper the deflection went right onto the path of Leya Iseka who did not miss to score what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
League Match 6
Newport County - Norwich (3-0)
Pogba 70' (Amavi)
Ringdal Støvland 84' (Guerreiro)
Ringdal Støvland 88' (Potter)
Paul Pogba wasn't quite ready for a full load but Giovanni Marccelino opted to have him as an option off the bench which turned out to be a wise move. Pogba scored a couple of minutes after entering the game to finally break Norwich's defense and Kjetil Ringdal Støvland scored a brace in five minutes to give Newport County a comfortable and deserved win at Rodney Parade.
League Cup - Round 3
Newport County - Blackburn Rovers (2-3)
Gersbeck 64' (pen)
Rhodes 70'
Koita 73'
Marshall 76'
Nabiullin 90+2' (Moore)
Blackburn Rovers pulled off the upset at Rodney Parade thanks to an incredible scoring outburst in a seven-minute span that shocked even The Exiles, who were never able to overcome their sudden deficit to once again fail to compete for the league cup. Newport County weren't their usual selves shooting wise as their B-squad only managed 4 shots on target out of 12 total shots mostly due to several shots hitting woodwork.
League Match 7
Leicester City - Newport County (2-2)
Mahrez 75'
Ringdal Støvland 86' (Moore)
Kramarić 90'
Ringdal Støvland 90+4'
Ringdal Støvland willed The Exiles to a draw at King Power Stadium to help Newport County earn a more-than-fair draw. Marccelino's side was once again relentless on the attack, firing off 16 shots (12 on target), but not shockingly Kasper Schmeichel was up for the challenge. As the game unfolded it sure seemed like The Exiles would end up with a tough loss but RS first broke through in the 86th minute to even up the game at 1. Andrej Kramarić's goal in the 90th minute all but assured heartbreak for Newport fans before The Norwegian Tank came to the rescue again four minutes into stoppage time, scoring in fashion very similar to his late goal vs Hull City in the season's home opener.
Euro League - Group Match 2
SK Sturm Graz - Newport County (1-6)
Edomwonyi 9'
Gersbeck 44' (pen)
Leya Iseka 53'
Esser 58' (OG)
Gersbeck 78'
Potter 84' (Taylor)
Gersbeck 90+2' (Odubajo)
Spendlhofer 41'
Sturm Graz' manager, Franco Foda, became irate in the 53rd minute and his ire lasted until well after the final whistle due to a controversial play that arguably changed the whole game. In the 53rd minute Leya Iseka's goal put The Exiles ahead for good but Foda rightfully has beef with how the goal came to be (as in, it shouldn't have been allowed). Moses Odubajo sped down the right wing all the way down to the back line before turning into the box against tight coverage from a defender. Odubajo was able to get past the defender to send the ball in towards goal which Sturm Graz' GK, Michael Esser, deflected. However, replays clear show the ball had crossed the back line before Odubajo send it towards the goal, which should had resulted on a goal kick for the home team. Instead the deflected ball found its way to Leya Iseka who didn't miss from close range. Foda lost his mind on the sidelines and it remains a mystery how he wasn't ejected, and his squad pretty much fell apart from that point forward as Newport County destroyed them led by Gersbeck's hat-trick. Anyone watching this game was certainly entertained in one way or another.
Clear evidence of the ball being out of bounds. A clear missed call by the refs.
Esser was able to deflect the ball but not secure it.
This goal by Leya Iseka was nearly gifted, and Newport County just piled it on from there.

Review: It wasn't a perfect month for The Exiles but they definitely achieved a lot of good things in September as they start to get some key players back from injury. Newport County had to work hard to remain undefeated in league play but the draw against Leicester in particular could prove costly as Tottenham seem to remain in great form following their championship last season. Without question the last game of the month was the most talked about of them all due to all the drama surrounding Leya Iseka's goal. To date UEFA has yet to comment on the issue and it wouldn't be surprising if they don't. In all fairness, Sturm Graz was playing with 10 men since late in the first half after the red card to Lukas Spendlhofer (which was deserved) so Newport County would had probably won the game regardless of whether the ball had been ruled out of bounds prior to Leya Iseka's goal. Nonetheless, it sure makes the next match between these two teams more exciting when they face off during the last round of the group stage. Other than that Marccelino can't be happy about the loss in the League Cup at home to Blackburn Rovers but the team can always shoot to have a better showing in the F.A. Cup later this season.
Individually RS' performances are the most notable and the academy-product is once again off to a flying start to the season, currently leading the league in scoring. The Norwegian Tank has a tendency to start off seasons in great form but fail to show consistency as the season progresses so it'll be interesting to see whether this season is any different and how much The Exiles can take advantage of his top form.
In academy news, Newport County has sent scouts to United States, Northern Ireland, and Cameroon in search of more talent so that will be something to keep an eye on. All scouts are expected to return to the club's headquarters after three months.
The Academy
(listed by their ranking in it)
RM - Tobias Perez (64 OVR, 88-94 POT): This 17-year old from France has turned out to be a great find. Scouts unanimously agree he has potential to be special and he is now the top prospect in the academy. He possesses outstanding pace (78acc/73spd) for his age to go with excellent balance (73) and curve (76) on the ball.
ST - Billel Cissé (59 OVR, 86-92): This 17-year old striker from France Standing at 5'9" and 147lbs is officially the next top prospect for the club at this position. Cissé's top attribute is his pace (73 acc, 71 spd) which should come in handy for his size. The club is working on developing his striker skills.
CDM - Pierre Tägtström (58 OVR, 83-89): 16-year old from Sweden who is next in a great lineup of defensive midfielders developed by the club since Marccelino's arrival. Described as physically strong, Tägtström's exciting potential is undeniable and he displays excellent aggressiveness (89) towards the ball.
CDM - Andy Tandia (53 OVR, 75-81): Yet another defensive midfielder prospect, this 17-year old prospect from France currently projects as more of a future backup for the club.

Austria - Hungary (3-2)
Lazaro 3'
Kavlak 13'
Kalmár 15' (Stieber)
Arnautović 50' (pen)
Szalai 88'
Austria, which had no chance to qualify for the WC coming into this game, dealt Hungary's prospects of qualifying a big blow with this surprising victory. The home side shocked the visitors with a couple of early goals and although Hungary looked to be able to at least earn a draw Marko Arnautović's penalty kick in the 50th minute pretty much closed the door on a comeback by Marccelino's squad.
Group Match 10
Hungary - Turkey (2-3)
Szalai 4'
Çalhanoğlu 11'
Nukan 33'
Szalai 65'
Tufan 67'
Hungary needed a win and an Italy loss to secure a spot in next year's World Cup but got neither as Turkey quickly answered each one of Ádám Szalai's scores to officially eliminate Hungary from contention in the last date of WC qualifying. This was a disappointing end to what had started as a magical run for the Hungarians and Marccelino.
Hungary entered this round of games in second place in the group, behind Belgium only by goal difference, but their back-to-back losses precluded them from staying in qualifying position to end their Cinderella run towards the World Cup. Despite missing out on qualifying, Marccelino showed an ability to maximize Hungary's offensive potential as Szalai finished as the group's leading scorer with 7 goals while Zoltán Stieber tied a couple of Belgian players for the most assists with 5.
It hadn't even been 24 hours since Marccelino had become available on the international market by the time the Mexican Soccer Federation had reached out to him with a job offer. However, it appears the Italian coach remains interested in coaching an European nation and he may take some time to decide on the offer from Mexico as he evaluates all of his options.
October Schedule
10/3: vs Chelsea
10/16: at Crystal Palace
10/21: vs Lech Poznań (Euro League)
10/24: at Everton
10/31: vs Manchester Utd
October shouldn't present much of a scheduling conflict for The Exiles as all of their games are pretty well spread out so Newport County will have an opportunity to make a statement on whether they can contend for a league title this season. Lech Poznań was Newport's opponent in the Round of 32 of the UEL last season and it was never much of a contest, but Marccelino will likely continue to play his B-squad in the UEL so it should be a much closer contest.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
@texasbum06 I completely missed that post too much soccer clouding my vision and lack of sleep. That is one career I will be following. I may have to check out those sliders as well. I have not run away with anything, but like you promotions are far too easy. I have only won a pre-season cup and no others. I will continue to play it out and see. It has been really fun and challenging on the player management end.
Also I am glad you are keeping that Grimsby Town CM because I love what you have put tougher on that one.Currently playing: (In order of Most Time)

Community Shield
Manchester United 1 (1) - (3) 1 Grimsby Town
MUN - Pogba 75'
GRI - Sacko 58'
MOTM: Amang
We proved that we are ready for a new season with a great win, even if it took penalties to get it. United dominated the amount of shots all game, but we did take the edge in possession and limited them to non threatening shots for the most part. We took the lead initially with Amang playing Sacko through on the right and he hit his shot perfectly across the goal and off the far post and in giving the keeper no chance. Pogba found an answer though taking a shot from distance after it rebounded out to him and it was placed well enough to sneak in on the near post. The whistle blew and it was down to penalties. Dybala and Pogba each tried to chip their first 2 shots, and both of them saw it hit the post and stay out. Hourihane and Sacko hammered their shots home though and we were in control. Thomas then saved the third shot from United, but Wolf's shot was also saved. It was then up to Amang to finish it off and he powered his penalty into the corner giving the keeper zero chance to keep it out and he was rushed by his teammates to begin the celebrations.
Watford FC 4 - 1 Grimsby Town
WAT - Okaka 15', 72', Mason 87', Folivi 90'
GRI - Wolf 90'
MOTM: Folivi
That was about was bad of a start to the new league campaign as we could have asked for. Watford took the lead early, and then put us to rest with a late barrage of goals. The first came from Okaka getting space on the left and taking advantage to wind up his shot and blast it inside the near post. He then bagged his brace using his strength to hold a defender off on his back until he could turn a shoot across the goal. Mason then added to our embarrassment with an absolute stunner of a shot from way outside the box into the top right corner. Folivi then capped it off by getting past our defense to get on the end of a through ball and it was an easy finish past the keeper. We then pulled back a consolation goal at the very end with Sacko crossing it to the back post and Wolf heading it in.
Grimsby Town 2 - 1 Aston Villa
GRI - Vieira 12', Amang 31'
ASV - Tshibola 49'
MOTM: Vieira
This was a performance more like what we were hoping for. We controlled the game, and if not for a spectacular effort from distance, we would have kept the clean sheet as well. Our first came with Sacko's shot getting pushed away by the keeper, but Vieira was there to tap it in and get us the lead. Our second came from Amang after wolf played him down the middle and all he had to do was pick a side and slide it past the keeper. Just after the half Tshibola smashed a first time shot from the edge of the box perfectly into the top corner to keep Villa alive and make for a nervous second half for us. We were able to hold on though, and really should have added another to put the game away but I won't complain about a win.
EFL Cup
Grimsby Town 2 - 3 Preston North End
GRI - Cole 58' (PEN), Clarke 75' (OG)
PNE - Pearson 35', Hugill 45' Grimshaw 61'
MOTM: Pearson
This was a lesson on what can happen if you don't take an opponent seriously. We sent out a reserves lineup, and it bit us in a big way. Pearson took advantage of a poor tackle attempt to go through on goal and he finished it off the keeper and in for the lead. Just before the half Hugill doubled the lead tapping in a cross after a fantastic piece of build up play by Preston. In the second half we were given some signs of life when the referee pointed to the spot after Banton was taken down and Cole converted to cut the lead. It didn't last long though and Grimshaw extended the lead once again with a shot from outside of the box across the goal and into the top corner leaving us shaking our heads. We pulled one back once again with Banton slipping through on goal and his shot was deflected by Clarke and crossed the line. We pushed hard for the equalizer but ran out of time in the end.
Norwich City 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
GRI - Kessie 52'
MOTM: Wolf
It wasn't a pretty win, but we got the job done. Norwich controlled the majority of the chances and the possession, but our defense was good enough to keep them off the score sheet. Our goal came not far into the second half with Wolf getting down the left and picking our Kessie running into the box for the first time finish across the goal. That goal would be enough in the end as we picked up the win away from home.

August 2016
Blackpool FC 1 - 0 Plymouth Argyle
BPL - Daniel 45'
MOTM: Vassell
It won't go down in the history books or anything, but a win is a win, and even more when it's the first competitive game in charge. There was only a handful of chances in the first half, but we got the one that mattered with Vassell playing the ball through to Daniel on the counter and he used his left foot to finish across the goal into the bottom right corner. The game was pretty uneventful afterwards and we held on for the 3 points.
EFL Cup
Derby County 3 - 1 Blackpool FC
DER - Nugent 19', Christie 54', Russell 73'
BPL - Daniel 57'
MOTM: Johnson
We were never even close. Derby absolutely dominated us from start to finish, and even though you can argue that we should have added a second, that would have been a truly flattering score line based on our performance. The first for Derby came off of a corner that we failed to clear and it bounced around our box ending up at Nugent's feet and he slotted it home. Christie then took advantage of the gaps in our defense and waited for the ball and once he got it all he had to do was turn and finish on the near post. We finally showed a sign of life and after a cross was blocked Daniel got the ball and placed an audacious chip over the keeper and across the line to cut the lead in half. After we missed a golden chance, Derby all but put it to rest with Russell picking up a semi-cleared ball and he took advantage of the keeper being off his line and just fired it from distance to extend the lead once again.
Mansfield Town 2 - 2 Blackpool FC
MAN - Hemmings 45', Green 81'
BPL - Yeates 13', Daniel 45'
MOTM: Mellor
I shouldn't be upset with a draw away from home, but it really felt like we were going to get that one until Green's late strike. The first goal of the game came by way of Yeates who made his return to the starting lineup after his injury from last season and Potts played him through and he finished it low, even clipping the keeper with his shot before it went in. Then Hemmings abused our defense and ran right around them to beat our keeper on the near post for the equalizer. That didn't even last a minute though and Mellor got down the right and crossed it to the back post where Daniel was there to head it back across the keeper and in to regain our lead. With the clock starting to wind down and us having the lead, we were heartbroken when Green turned towards goal and let fly from distance and all we could do was watch in horror as the shot found the top corner and Mansfield had equalized.
Blackpool FC 0 - 0 Wycombe Wanderers
MOTM: Yeates
We spurned way too many chances at the end of this and that cost us 2 precious points. Our defense had what was probably their most solid outing yet, and the attack created chances, but just couldn't finish them. We had the look of a team that was doing well, and if we trust the process the goals will start flowing in due time.
Blackpool FC 0 - 1 Exeter City
EXE - Taylor 27'
MOTM: Taylor
While we may have looked like we were doing the right things last match, we looked completely awful in this one. We didn't even register a shot on target during the whole match. Even worse, we had luck against us as Exeter got their goal as a result of the ball pinging around after a corner and eventually Taylor was able to hit it from distance and beat our keeper on the near post. It's best to just move on and not linger on this.
Checkatrade Trophy
Blackpool 3 - 2 Doncaster Rovers
BPL - Elliott 22', Taylor 31', Daniel 86'
DON - Evina 44', Williams 62'
MOTM: Philliskirk
We played a great attacking game, but still we almost gave away what should have been an easy win after going up 2-0. Elliott scored first getting the ball on the left side of the goal and finishing back across for his first goal in a Blackpool shirt. Taylor then doubled our lead with an absolutely stunning free kick into the top left corner. And just as we were feeling good and preparing to go into half with a nice lead, Evina pulled one back with a great header off of a corner kick. They then struck again using a quick free kick and getting around our defense who were completely unprepared and he had a simple finish on the near post for the equalizer. We were frantically trying to get a goal and it paid off with Philliskirk playing a ball to Daniel with space on the left and he placed it past the keeper and inside the far post for the win.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?
We Try. We Fail. We Win.
2019-20 Summer Transfer Window
Transfers Out
Andreas Winter (CM, 65 ovr, 16 y/o), 2-year-loan to Manchester City
Our young academy graduate, who's got the potential to be one of the best German midfielders in the future, isn't good enough to get a reasonable amount of playing time for us. That's why we decided to loan him out to Manchester City of all teams.
Samuel Montandon (LW, 75 ovr, 19 y/o), 2-year-loan to FC Heidenheim
Samuel Montandon is another academy graduate, and just like Winter, he is going on a two-year loan. However, unlike Winter, Montandon is going out to second-tier Heidenheim where he should be guaranteed playing time.
Valentin Stocker, (CAM, 76 ovr, 30 y/o), €8,800,000 to VfL Wolfsburg
Five years of average performances and a decrease in overall are our reasons for selling this Swiss attacking player. For one reason or another, Wolfsburg were willing to pay nearly nine million for 30-year-old Stocker, and like that he was gone.
Genki Haraguchi, (LM, 78 ovr, 28 y/o), €12,000,000 to VfB Stuttgart
Genki Haraguchi is one of those frustrating players who have a great pre-season, begin the proper season well, put in a couple of good performances every now and then, and after then they just disappear from the pitch. Our Japanese winger was subpar during the last season or two, and I'm glad Stuttgart were willing to invest a lot of money in him.
Ademilson, (ST, 79 ovr, 25 y/o), €16,500,000 to Hamburger SV
If you've been following this career closely you will know how much I've begun to despise Ademilson. The Brazilian attacker was completely useless, and he wasn't involved in a single goal in the ten or so appearances he made for us. Luckily, for some odd reason, Hamburger were willing to pay €16.5M for him, which means that we made a profit of €1.5M on him.
Transfers In
Admir Mehmedi (LM, 79 Ovr, 28 Years Old) has joined the team on a free transfer.
Niklas Süle (CB, 84 Ovr, 23 Years Old) has joined the team on a free transfer.
Emre Mor
75 Ovr, Striker, 22 Years Old, Turkey
1-Year-Loan With a €7M Buy Option
The recent retirement of Vedad Ibisevic and the departure of superflop Ademilson left us with only a single striker in the team. After signing someone (more of that later), we had only two strikers. Just in case one of them gets injured, I also decided to loan the young Emre Mor in with an option to buy him at the end of the season. The 22-year-old Turkey international is a very pacy attacking player whose good dribbling ability also makes him a good option for the wing.
Kerem Demirbay
77 Ovr, Attacking Midfielder, 26 Years Old, Germany
€6,800,000
Since we sold Stocker, I felt like we could have use for another attacking midfielder in the team, mainly for squad depth and rotation purposes. After quite a bit of scouting I decided to sign Hoffenheim's Kerem Demirbay. The 26-year-old midfielder has been an important part of Hoffenheim's midfield since 2016 when he joined the team, and his high work ethics make him an important asset for every team. Furthermore, Demirbay can play in several different positions.
Davie Selke
79 Ovr, Striker, 24 Years Old, Germany
€18,000,000
Our most expensive signing of the transfer window, and the most expensive signing of Hertha BSC ever, came in the form of 24-year-old German striker Davie Selke. The strong attacker joined us from RB Leipzig for nearly 20 million which is a hefty fee. Selke was signed to replace Vedad Ibisevic as our first-choice striker, and I'm expecting Selke to net many goals for us together with our second-choice striker Felix Platte. With this new acquisition we now have more than enough firepower.

September 2019
We didn't have any competitive matches before September.
1. FC Köln 1 - 2 Hertha BSC
Lagos 19'
Selke 16' pen, Mehmedi 48', Weiser s/o 70'
A very good way to begin the new season! Two of our new arrivals scored in this game and secured us the first set of three points. Also, we continued from where we left off last season with yet another penalty in our favour.
Hertha BSC 2 - 0 RB Leipzig
Darida 9' pen, Selke 61' pen
Two games, two wins, three penalty goals. This really isn't the way in which I'd like to be winning games, but nonetheless, a win is a win. Oh, and prior to scoring the penalty against his old side, Davie Selke missed a spot kick earlier in the game. Make that four penalties in two games.
Real Madrid 2 - 1 Hertha BSC
Hazard 37', Martial 65'
Süle 58'
Even though we lost, I don't feel ashamed or upset. The lads had a very good game against one of the best teams in the world, and Madrid had a tough time against us. Eden Hazard put them ahead in the 37th minute to finish off a neat solo run. In the second half, our recent arrival Niklas Süle headed the equaliser in from a Weiser free kick. Unfortunately Madrid's recent €80-million signing Anthony Martial reached a rebound first in the 65th minute, getting the winning goal for The Whites.
Hannover 96 2 - 1 Hertha BSC
Inui 51', Sobiech 88'
Selke 83'
This was an unbelievable defeat. Hannover took the lead early into the second half, when Takashi Inui played a through ball into the box. He put a bit too much power into it, though, and Hannover's striker failed to reach the ball. Our keeper then slid in to clear the ball but missed it, letting a very sloppy goal in. We then threw everyone forwards, and finally Davie Selke equalised in the 83rd minute (after missing a penalty eight minutes earlier). This didn't shock Hannover, though, and just five minutes later Sobiech got the winner with a powerful shot into the top right corner of the net. Disappointing.
Hertha BSC 1 - 1 Borussia Dortmund
Selke 38'
Aubameyang 63' pen
Davie Selke continued his fine scoring form, and this time it was with a header from open play. Vladimir Darida then missed a penalty in the 45th minute, and it came back to haunt us as Aubameyang equalised the game right after the hour mark from the penalty spot.
Eintracht Braunschweig 0 - 1 Hertha BSC
Selke 75' pen
We missed a penalty earlier in the game. I know, it sounds like I'm making things up, but we are being rewarded penalties in every single game.

My Thoughts
Performances - We have been quite strong in the league and I'm happy how we are performing, although that loss to Hannover really hurt. Furthermore, I want us to put more of our chances into the back of the net instead of relying on all the penalties referees like to award us.
Transfers - Mehmedi and Süle were signed already in the winter as their contracts were expiring. Emre Mor came to add more depth and pace, Demirbay was signed for squad depth as our attacking midfielders tend to underperform or get injured, and Davie Selke was signed to be our first-choice striker.
Ademilson was sold because he was useless for us, Haraguchi departed because he had been below average, and Stocker was simply quite average and he was starting to decrease.
Player Performances - Niklas Stark and Niklas Süle, or Nick&Nick for short, have already formed a very strong defensive partnership. While Stark has his weaknesses, Süle has proven to be a rock at the back. He is already our most important - and best - defender.
Davie Selke has been netting quite a few goals, but the downside is that the majority of them has come from the penalty spot. I'm still impressed by his performances, though.
Champions League - Real Madrid and Manchester City are two very tough teams, but we can beat them. We just need to take our chances against them because I don't think we will receive too many of those. Lokomotiv, on the other hand, shouldn't cause us too much headache.
Thank you for reading this post! I hope you have enjoyed it! Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated!

Season 5
The Mariners
September 2020
Grimsby Town 2 - 1 Leicester City
GRI - Hourihane 5' (PEN), 16' (PEN)
LEI - Mahrez 33'
MOTM: Hourihane
Leicester will surely be complaining about the referee decisions in this one, but two early penalties were the difference as we held on for the win. I still feel like it was a deserved win though, and we really should have added more before it was all said and one. The first came with Boly taking out Hourihane with a hard standing challenge and Hourihane was the one to tuck it away from the spot. The next came with Chilwell cutting down Sacko on the right side of the box with a poorly timed slide and Hourihane once again converted into the exact same spot he did before. Leicester pulled one back taking advantage of the counter and Mahrez got in and fired his shot off of our keeper and in. The second half didn't see any changes to the score, but we squandered quite a few chances that would have made it more comfortable for us.
Europa League Group Stage
Grimsby Town 2 - 2 AS Monaco
GRI - Cole 30', Banton 68'
MON - Mojica 53', Lemar 90'
MOTM: Bakayoko
Absolutely frustrating to give up a late goal like that and cost us the points. This competition is never going to be easy and giving up points like that will surely come back and bite us. We took the lead first with Kelly trying to send a cross in and the keeper was able to push it away, but it fell straight to Cole and all he had to do was tap it in. They found an equalizer though when Mojica hit a stunning shot from distance across the goal and into the top corner. It was Banton's turn to impress and he dribbled through their defense to get the ball on his right foot and he finished low across the keeper and inside the far post. The got the equalizer in the end though after we cleared out a corner and started sending bodies forward, they won the ball back and sent it ahead to the one person who wasn't offside and he was through for the finish.
Manchester United 1 - 3 Grimsby Town
MUN - Pereira 90'
GRI - Wolf 44', 74', Borthwick-Jackson 72' (OG)
MOTM: Wolf
Getting all 3 points at Old Trafford is always a massive win. We did a great job of creating chances all throughout, and Thomas was outstanding on the other end keeping out a number of tough shots from United. Wolf opened the scoring just before half with Amang playing the ball to the left side of the box and he turned outside to get around the edge and then slotted it back across the goal. We got a bit of luck on our second one with Vieira firing a shot that was deflected by Borthwick-Jackson right when the keeper dove and it went back the other way and crossed the line. Even if the last one was luck, this one wasn't as Amang combined with Wolf again down the left and he finished it low past the keeper to the far post to extend the lead even further. United got a consolation goal at the end when Peireira controlled a corner at the top of the box and found the gap between two defenders and let it fly from distance and it settled into the top right corner.
Grimsby Town 3 - 1 Chelsea FC
GRI - Paterson 13', Wolf 34', Sacko 68'
CHE - Gacinovic 49'
MOTM: Kamada
Another convincing win against a top side and we are feeling pretty good right now when it comes to league play. Paterson started us off with a strong header on a corner from Kamada. Wolf then continued his good form getting on the end of Kamada's ball across the box for the simple tap in. Chelsea came out of the half firing though and Gacinovic was able to pick up the rebound off the post and fire it back into the open net to cut the lead in half. We put our press on Chelsea though and forced a takeaway that ended with Amang playing the ball to Sacko and he took an extra touch to get around the last defender before firing it past the keeper to extend the lead once again and that scoreline held.
Europa League Group Stage
Grimsby Town 2 - 0 Borussia Dortmund
GRI - Griffiths 36', Al Kuwaykibi 40'
MOTM: Griffiths
Dortmund are surely going to be furious after this one. The entire game changed in a 4 minute span, with Dortmund dominating both before and after that stretch, but not being able to grab any goals. Our first came with Griffiths putting pressure on their back line and as two Dortmund players ran into each other they lost the ball straight to him and all he had to do was beat the keeper. The second was just as bad with their keeper rolling the ball to the defender and Al Kuwaykibi was on him as soon as he got the ball and knocked it free before pouncing on the loose ball and finishing across the goal. The win was rather undeserved, but we took advantage of their mistakes and we won't feel bad about that.
