    Season 9

    The Mariners

    September 2024

    Mancheter City 0 - 2 Grimsby Town
    GRI - Kamada 69', Morris 85'
    MOTM: Kamada

We started out slow, but the final 25 minutes saw us come to life and knock home 2 goals. The first came when Lukaku was able to play Kamada through on the right and he took one touch and then placed it low around the keeper to the far post. Then with just 5 minutes left, Lukaku was brought down just outside the box and Morris stepped up and curled his free kick perfectly over the wall and into the top left corner to double the lead.

    Grimsby Town 1 - 1 West Brom
    GRI - Lukaku 90'
    WBA - Leko 36'
    MOTM: Kamada

We were terrible in front of goal the whole night, but we didn't deserve to have conceded when we did either. Luckily we were able to grab a last minute equalizer, but this should have been a win for us. They took the lead in the first half off of a corner when Vieira had a simple clearance to make and he shanked it into the middle of the box straight to Leko who fired it into the back of the net with a first time shot while everyone was still confused by Vieira's mistake. We missed chance after chance to equalize, but finally in the 90th minute Lukaku was played around the left by Wolf and he avoided the sliding challenge to get a look at goal and he slid it under the keeper to save us a point.

    Champion's League Group Stage
    Grimsby Town 0 - 1 Valencia CF
    VAL - Anor 12'
    MOTM: Soler

The struggles we had last match carried over and we were once again terrible in front of goal. Only this time, there was no last minute equalizer. Their goal came early with them working the ball around well and getting it to Anor on the right and he was able to line up his shot and fire it across into the top left corner. I'd like to say that we battled back bravely after going down, but we struggled to create much of anything the whole way and we leave with nothing from this match.

    Aston Villa 2 - 5 Grimsby Town
    ASV - Pizarro 10', Gardner 85' (PEN)
    GRI - Burke 3', 33', 80', Lukaku 21' (PEN), Tousart 30'
    MOTM: Burke

Burke was in fine form tonight and bagged a hat-trick on our way to the win. He started it off almost instantly with Kamada sending a cross in to him and he headed it past the keeper for the lead. We got lazy though and allowed Pizarro to dribble right through out defense and then place his shot into the left side of the goal for the equalizer. We regained the lead after Lukaku was taken out in the box while trying to find space to shoot and he then converted from the spot into the bottom left corner. Tousart extended our lead again after Boscagli played him the ball outside of the box and he let it fly into the top left corner. Then just minutes later Burke grabbed another after Kamada played him down the right and he slotted it low around the keeper to the bottom left corner. Burke then completed his hat-trick after Boscagli played him away on the counter and he finished it low to the far post. Garner got a late consolation goal after some confusion led to us messing up our clearance and the ensuing scramble ended with them tucking away a penalty.

    EFL Cup
    Grimsby Town 2 (5) - (3) 2 Crewe Alexandra
    GRI - Harris 83', 93'
    CRE - Dale 20', Kiwomya 104'
    MOTM: Harris

This was embarrassing regardless of us pulling out the win. Our defense was a complete mess, and our attack squandered a ton of chances. Dale opened the scoring after a cross went into the box and we allowed it to drop to the ground where Dale was waiting unmarked and he directed it into the back of the net. Then late in the match Konate played Harris through on the right and he let it roll under him and onto his right foot and he placed it around the keeper to the far post. In extra time Harris then gave us the lead after Vieira played him through and he held off the defender before firing his shot low to the bottom left corner. The lead didn't last long and we let Kiwomya get free on the back post and he got the ball and then slotted it home to the far post. In the penalty shootout we got beyond lucky after Johnstone saved one of theirs, and then we tucked every one of ours away despite their keeper getting a hand on two of them.

    Newcastle United 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
    NEW - Thauvin 42'
    GRI - Boscagli 18', 86'
    MOTM: Boscagli

We made this a lot tougher than it really should have been, but we got the 3 points. We took the lead in the first half after Lukaku was fouled outside the box and Boscagli lined up his free kick and curled it over the wall and into the top right corner. Before the half was over Thauvin equalized after he got a little luck after a ball fell back to him after a tackle and he placed it around the keeper. Then in the closing minutes Tousart was able to find Boscagli running in on the near post and he quickly placed it past the oncoming keeper for the winner.

      Season 9

      The Mariners

      October 2024

      Champion's League Group Stage
      Olympiacos 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
      OLY - Paciencia 90'
      GRI - Spencer 52' (PEN), Wolf 74'
      MOTM: Wolf

We didn't deserve this win, but either way it was much needed. We opened the scoring after Wolf was cut down on the left side of the box and Spencer stepped up and tucked the penalty away. Then in the second half we doubled the lead when Quiroga got around the left side of the defense and sent a low ball across the face of the goal and Wolf met it in the middle to direct it into the goal. They grabbed a very late consolation goal when Paciencia headed home a cross, but the whistle blew not long after meaning it was too little, too late.

      Grimsby Town 3 - 0 Brighton
      GRI - Kamada 3', Tousart 45', Deslandes 79'
      MOTM: Tousart

This one went about how you would expect when the defending champion plays against a newly promoted side. Kamada started it off just minutes into the match after Tousart played him through on the right and he put his shot low and the keeper got a finger on it, but it wasn't enough to keep it out of the goal. Then just before the half Burke played Tousart through up the middle and he kept calm and placed it to the left of the keeper to double the lead. In the second half we extended our lead once again when Lukaku met a corner on the near post and flicked it into the middle where Deslandes was able to trap it and then tuck it away.

      Chelsea FC 1 - 4 Grimsby Town
      CHE - Mbemba 39' (OG)
      GRI - Burke 25', Lukaku 27', 78', 87'
      MOTM: Lukaku

Lukaku continues to prove his worth this season and recorded his first hat-trick for the club. But the first to score was Burke who got the ball from Morris on the right and he fired his shot across the goal to the far post. Then just a couple of minutes alter Boscagli played a great ball up ahead to Lukaku and he surprised the defense by cutting the ball to his right foot to get around the last man and then slotted it home to double the lead. They pulled one back after a low cross was sent in and Mbemba stuck his leg out to get to the ball first but it ended up bouncing off his foot and into the goal. We regained our advantage in the second half when Tousart played Lukaku through up the middle and he held off the defender and fired his shot which the keeper saved, but he knocked in the rebound. Then in the closing minutes Boscagli played Lukaku around the right and he used his weaker right foot to place it around the keeper into the bottom left corner to complete his hat-trick.

      Champion's League Group Stage
      Grimsby Town 2 - 0 Borussia Dortmund
      GRI - Wolf 61', 81'
      MOTM: Wolf

Fittingly enough, it was our German that made the difference against Dortmund. Wolf opened the scoring in the second half after Harris played him into space down the left and he used his left foot to place his shot across to the bottom right corner. He then doubled our lead later when Konate played a beautiful through ball up the middle and he used his left foot again to finish it on the near post before the keeper could react. All we had to do was see the game out after that and we grabbed 3 very important points.

      Grimsby Town 2 - 1 Middlesbrough FC
      GRI - Boscagli 82', Lukaku 89'
      MID - Owobowale 74'
      MOTM: Boscagli

We left it until late, but our two star men came through for us to make the difference. In the second half they took the lead when Owobowale got the ball outside of the box and lined up his shot with a defender attempting to push him off the ball and he still hit it perfectly into the top left corner. In the final 10 minutes we came alive and Kamada was able to play Boscagli through on the break and he finished it across the goal to the bottom right corner for the equalizer. Then Vieira played Lukaku through on the right and he used his pace to get away from the defense and then powered his shot past low and past the keeper to grab the winner for us.

      EFL Cup
      Grimsby Town 4 - 0 Stevenage FC
      GRI - Spencer 13', Kelly 20', 74', 90' (PEN)
      MOTM: Kelly

Kelly took advantage of the lower league opponent and scored a hat-trick to help secure our advancement in the cup. Our first came with Kelly playing a beautiful through ball to Spencer down the middle and he finished it low under the keeper as he came out to challenge. Our next goal involved every member of our front 3 as Dembele headed a ball down to Wolf who then played it through to Kelly and he finished it off to the far post. Kelly got his second after Konate's shot was kept out and Vieira got to the rebound and sent it into the middle where Kelly was waiting to fire it into the open net. Then in the final minute we got forward again and Kelly got taken out in the box. Spencer conceded his penalty duties to allow Kelly his hat-trick and he placed his shot off the right post and in to get it.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Hey guys, great thread. I just started a Spurs CM on YouTube (will post links once I have enough comments). Video 1 was an intro about the team and a few transactions as well as the first match vs Everton.

Notable transfers - sold CB Kevin Wimmer. Bought LB Luke Shaw. Plan is to move previous LB backup Ben Davies to be LCB back up and use Shaw at LB with Rose (rotation).

The first match was very exciting, a 0-1 victory for Spurs that came off a Harry Kane penalty right before halftime. After a few passes at midfield, Eriksen found Kane close to the box, Kane hit Rose with a through ball and Rose was tackled from behind by former Spur Aaron Lennon.

Both teams had a couple of scoring chances in the 2nd half but nobody could break through. Final 0-1.

Video 2 will be Crystal Palace and At Liverpool as well as looking at players to scout to bring in during the midseason transfer window as I look to sell Sissoko and Erik Lamela.

I'm just checking in to mention that I'm still alive. However, I've still got a couple of games left to play in December and I want to wrap the entire year up in my next update. I'll try to post it during this week. Hopefully.

              Season 9

              The Mariners

              November 2024

              Stoke City 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
              STK - Molina 59'
              GRI - Burke 76'
              MOTM: Tousart

Stoke pushed us and looked like they might hand us our first league loss of the season, but we found a way to battle back and take a point from it. They got the lead when Molina got the ball in the middle of the box and he saw his window to shoot and he placed it into the top right corner with a well placed shot. We got our equalizer when Tousart played a great long through ball up the middle for Burke and he took one touch to put it on his left foot and then finished it low into the bottom left corner.

              Champion's League Group Stage
              Valencia CF 2 - 4 Grimsby Town
              VAL - Ocampos 22', Oliveira 89'
              GRI - Lukaku 6', 45', 90', Boscagli 59'
              MOTM: Lukaku

Lukaku grabbed his second hat-trick for the season so far and we vaulted to the top of our group now with 2 fixtures left in the group stage. We opened the scoring early when Deslandes sent a cross in perfectly for Lukaku to rise up and head past the keeper. Valencia got an equalizer though when Ocampos got his head on a cross of his own and powered it past our keeper on the near post. Just before the half we got our lead back when Burke sent a first time cross in from the right and Lukaku was there again to head it home. In the second half we doubled our lead when Burke was able to play Boscagli down the left and he fired his shot low across to the far post. They pulled one back to make it interesting in the closing minutes when a shot came back off the crossbar and Oliveira was the first one to the rebound and directed it into the goal. Lukaku put the game to rest though after Boscagli's cross attempt was blocked into the middle and he collected it and then fired it into the bottom right corner to complete his hat-trick on the night.

              Grimsby Town 2 - 1 Watford FC
              GRI - Harris 45', Konate 87'
              WAT - Berge 90'
              MOTM: Harris

This was a fairly comfortable win and they never put enough pressure on us to doubt the result. We opened the scoring just before the half when Harris showed off his range and powered a free kick from over 30 yards out over the wall and into the top right corner. Then in the closing minutes Harris was able to play Konate through on the right and he lined up his shot and placed it into the bottom left corner to double our lead. They grabbed a conslation goal after that with Berge firing a shot from the edge of the box into the top left corner which was annoyingly the last kick of the match.

              Manchester United 2 - 2 Grimsby Town
              MUN - Pereira 76', Fosu-Mensah 90'
              GRI - Boscagli 45', Lukaku 64'
              MOTM: Burke

We frustratingly threw the win away and had to settle for just a point when we should have had all 3. We opened the scoring right before the half when Burke was able to play a great ball over the top to Boscagli and he beat the keeper 1 on 1 to give us the lead. In the second half Burke once again chipped a ball over the top of the defense and it was Lukaku this time that got on the end of it and directed it past the keeper to double our lead. They pulled one back when we failed to get a ball clear and it got played ahead to Pereira running down the left and he fired it quickly inside the near post. In the final seconds they sent a corner in and Kelly tried to clear it away but ended up heading it across to the far post instead and Fosu-Mensah was there unmarked and he powered a header into the top right corner for the equalizer.

              Champion's League Group Stage
              Borussia Dortmund 2 - 3 Grimsby Town
              DOR - Pereira 6', Hazard 66'
              GRI - Burke 10', Lukaku 35', 50' (PEN)
              MOTM: Lukaku

This was a big win and we've now secured our spot in the knockouts with a game left in the group stage still. We fell behind early after Deslandes mistimed his tackle and Pereira was through on goal and finished it around the keeper. But it was only a matter of minutes before Boscagli played Burke around the right and he fired his shot hard and the keeper got a hand on it but couldn't keep it out. We took the lead before the half was over when Burke's shot was saved, but Lukaku was able to run in on the back post and tap it in. On the other side of the break the referee awarded us a penalty and Lukaku sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted it home. Dortmund kept it interesting though when Hazard danced around our defense to get some space and then let it fly from outside of the box into the left side of the goal.

                December 2024

                Grimsby Town 0 - 2 Leicester City
                LEI - Rashford 45', Bruma 90'
                MOTM: Gray

Our unbeaten run is over and it took until December for us to finally get that first loss. They took the lead just before the half when Gray played a great ball around our defense for Rashford to run on to and he beat our keeper with a cheeky chip. The put the game away in the final minute when Gray sent a corner into the box and Bruma rose up and headed it at goal but it took a deflection on the way in and went around our keeper.

                EFL Cup Quarter Final
                Manchester United 0 - 4 Grimsby Town
                GRI - Lukaku 14', 90', Smalling 58' (OG), Boscagli 85'
                MOTM: Boscagli

We certainly bounced back after that loss and we absolutely dominated this cup tie from the opening whistle. Boscagli played the ball to Lukaku in the middle of the box and he turned around the right side of the defense and finished it low to the far post. We doubled our lead in the second half after Burke showed some great effort to get to a ball before it crossed the end line and he sent it low back into the middle and Smalling was unlucky to get a foot on it only to see it go back into his own goal. In the closing minutes Tousart played Boscagli through on the right and he fired his shot into the bottom right corner to extend our lead even further. Then in the final minute Boscagli played the ball to Lukaku in the middle and he cut it left around the defender to get through on goal and then finished it past the keeper to complete his brace.

                Swansea City 2 - 0 Grimsby Town
                SWA - Araujo 10', Mastour 39'
                MOTM: Mastour

This was probably our worst performance yet and we have now lost our second straight match after noting having lost a single one before then. They took the lead early when Araujo rushed and slid in to get to the ball before the keeper and directed it into the right side of the goal. They then double the lead when Mastour ran right past our defense and got on the end of a low ball into the box and directed it past our keeper. We couldn't get anything going on our end and I would be lying if I said we put up a fight.

                Champion's League Group Stage
                Grimsby Town 2 - 0 Olympiacos
                GRI - Kelly 70', van Drongelen 90'
                MOTM: Vieira

We already had the top spot in the group secured regardless of the result so we sent out the reserves and they still finished off the group stages in style for us. It took a while to get the opener, but luck fell on our side when they tackled the ball away from us and it went straight to Kelly who had an open look at goal and he slotted it inside the far post. Then in the final minute Kelly sent a corner into the middle of the box and van Drongelen rose up and headed it past the keeper to double our lead and officially put the match to rest.

                Grimsby Town 3 - 1 Liverpool FC
                GRI - Boscagli 10', Burke 38', Lukaku 85'
                LIV - Kent 61'
                MOTM: Lukaku

I'm glad that we were able to get back to winning ways in the league, and it is especially nice to see a goal from each member of our front 3. Our first goal came when Morris played Boscagli down the left side and he continued through on goal and placed it low into the bottom right corner. We doubled our lead when Lukaku played Burke through on the right and he chipped the keeper perfectly as he came out to try to block it. They pulled one back in the second half when Kent got played down the left and he slid to get to the ball before our keeper could and directed it around him to the right side of the goal. Lukaku put the game away in the closing minutes though after Tierney played him up the middle and he used his left foot to power his shot past the keeper into the bottom right corner.

                Tottenham 0 - 1 Grimsby Town
                GRI - Boscagli 27'
                MOTM: Kamada

It was a tough match against a surprising relegation candidate, but we got the job done. We got the lead when Kamada played Boscagli down the left and he fired his shot from a tough angle across the goal and into the bottom right corner. It ended up being the only and deciding goal of the match as we failed to grab another the rest of the way.

                Grimsby Town 4 - 0 Southampton FC
                GRI - Burke 16', 62', Kamada 51', Lukaku 81'
                MOTM: Burke

Southampton never seemed to have a chance and we looked to be in an entirely different class from them. Burke opened the scoring after Boscagli threaded a ball through to him down the right and he finished it around the keeper. Kamada doubled our advantage after Lukaku's shot came back off the post and he ran in and tapped it into the open net. Burke then got his second on the night after Kamada played him through up the middle and he kept his shot low and beat the keeper on the right side of the goal. Then in the final minutes we caught them on the counter and Burke played Lukaku through on goal and with only the keeper to beat it was never a doubt the ball would end up in the back of the net.

                Sunderland AFC 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
                SUN - Gooch 76'
                GRI - Konate 24', Kelly 64'
                MOTM: Quiroga

We closed out the month on a bright note with a solid win with our reserves out on the pitch. Konate started us off after Quiroga played him around the left and he finished back across the goal to the far post. Kelly then doubled our lead after Harris played a sneaky through ball to him and he finished it on the near post. They did pull one back though after we let Gooch get the ball unmarked just outside the box and he touched it into the box and the powered a shot into the top left corner.

                  League Match 29
Derby County - Newport County (1-3)
                  Ringdal Støvland 8' (Farfán)
                  Ringdal Støvland 16' (Ince)

                  T. Ince 31'
                  Farfán 41'

Kjetil Ringdal Støvland scored a brace in the first 16 minutes of the game, putting more distance between himself and the rest of the pack in the race for the league's scoring title, and Jefferson Farfán also scored before the end of the first half to complete The Exiles' victory at Pride Park Stadium. Meanwhile over at The Hawthorns relegation candidate West Brom defeated Manchester City 1-0!

Euro League - Round of 16, 1st Leg
                  Newport County - Bor. M'gladbach (4-0)
                  Farfán 34' (Gordon)
                  Gersbeck 76' (Guerreiro)
                  Embolo 86' (Ince)
                  Gersbeck 90' (Embolo)

Borussia Mönchengladbach could not get much going offensively at Rodney Parade so keeping the damage to a minimum would had been their saving grace but Nicolas Gersbeck came off the bench to score a brace in the last 15 minutes and Breel Donald Embolo added another late goal to give Newport County a commanding lead going into the second leg.

                  F.A. Cup - Quarter Final
                  Newport County - Everton (5-2)
                  Leya Iseka 26' (Potter)
                  Boëtius 51' (Moore)
                  Boëtius 55' (Martella)
                  Leya Iseka 68' (De Girolamo)

                  Bacuna 75'
                  Dall'Oglio 80' (De Girolamo)
                  Mirallas 88'
                  Boëtius 75'

Both clubs were playing on one day rest following matches in the UEL. That meant this was a battle of B-squads and Newport County's depth proved to be far superior. Aaron Leya Iseka has scored more often than note whenever he's been given the chance.

                  League Match 30
                  Burnley - Newport County (0-0)
Ringdal Støvland 40' (Femur contusion, out for 7 days)

The Exiles missed a big opportunity to stay within striking distance of Manchester City by failing to find the back of Burnley's net on 10 shots on target. They were clearly the better team on the pitch but the scoreboard is what really matters.

Euro League - Round of 16, 2nd Leg
                  Bor. M'gladbach - Newport County (1-1, 1-5 agg)
                  Moore 27' (De Girolamo)
                  Schulz 40'
                  Dall'Oglio 77'

The Exiles' B-squad stepped up once again to seal the deal against M'gladbach, who put 6 of their 8 shots on target but found Hayato Matsuki up for the challenge.

                  League Match 31
Newport County - Newcastle Utd (1-1)
                  Amavi 53'
                  Villalba 83'
                  Peres 26'
                  Sissoko 89'
Al Shahrani 32' (Sprained knee, out for 3 weeks)

If Newport County fails to catch up to Man City they may look back at this game as the reason for that. Despite playing with a one-man advantage after Bruno Peres committed a foul from behind as the last man on defense, The Exiles never looked in control and were arguably outplayed by Newcastle. Peres' exit led to a penalty kick for the home side but Farfán's shot was saved by Tim Krul. Marccelino's side had a chance late in a breakaway but Moussa Sissoko sacrificed himself by committing a hard foul from behind that haulted that play and led to Newcastle ending the game with nine men but salvaging a point at Rodney Parade.

Analysis: After cutting the difference to as close as 3 points The Exiles now sit 7 points behind league-leaders Manchester City after closing out league play in March with back-to-back draws while MCFC won both their games following their shocking loss to West Brom. Making up 7 points in 7 games isn't unrealistic, and luckily for Newport County they only need to make up 4 points in the next 6 games before they host Man City in the season finale. On the other hand, Liverpool sits just 4 points behind Marccelino's side and even Newcastle Utd is as close to Newport County as the Welsh club is to MCFC, so there is a lot of movement to watch for in the standings as the season starts to wrap up.

In the UEL, Newport County has been able to use dominant performances in the first legs of the last two stages to practically book their places into the next rounds and their B-squad has been able to hold the leads in the closing games. The Exiles' secondary squad also continued their great run by obtaining a solid victory over Everton's B-squad in the F.A. Cup where Newport County is now in the semi finals.

Overall this continues to be remarkable season for Marccelino's club but success hardly comes without challenges and Newport County may be dealing with a significant issue off the pitch. Reports indicate that leading scorer Kjetil Ringdal Støvland has refused to sign a contract extension with the club, stating he's willing to let his contract play out over the next couple of seasons. It's too soon to determine whether this is strategy by the Norwegian academy product to negotiate higher wages or if he is in fact looking to move to another club, but regardless this will be a situation worth keeping our eyes on. RS figures to have a lot of exposure with his Norway in this summer's World Cup and a strong performance in that big stage could turn up the heat in these negotiations.

                  The Academy
(listed by their ranking in it)

RB - Ohon Aduamah (62 OVR, 91-94): This 15-year old from Cameroon has officially been tabbed as an elite prospect. A physically strong player, Aduamah displays excellent aggression (83) and strength (77) to go with the jumping (75) and stamina (75) of a play-time ready prospect. He also possesses the pace to play the position.

RB - Ohon Ankrah (58 OVR, 84-94): 16-year old prospect from Cameroon who is more of a well-rounded prospect at this point in time. Ankrah is defensive minded and physical enough for the position, currently standing at 5'7" and 154lbs.

CAM - Jason Lavery (55 OVR, 79-89): 17-year old prospect from Northern Ireland described as a playmaker. The lefty Lavery stands at 5'9" and 143lbs is considered the next big prospect at his position.

CAM - Matt Lampson (51 OVR, 81-87): 16-year old prospect from the United States whose pace (75acc/73spd) is his most notable asset. Lampson is a raw prospect and will need to work hard in the academy.

CM - Abraham Lamptey (53 OVR, 78-84): 17-year old prospect from Cameroon who is defensive minded. Lamptey checks in at 6'1" and 169lbs and although he projects as an all-around midfielder his physical look make him a CDM prospect in The Exiles' diamond.

LM - Collin Taylor (57 OVR 78-84): 16-year old American prospect described as a playmaker. His most outstanding skill is his agility (75) which is noticeably better than any other skill he has at the moment.

CM - Dean McKay (50 OVR, 74-80): 15-year old prospect from Northern Ireland identified as a playmaker. McKay is very raw but even with that he shows outstanding agility (73) which should come in handy for his position.

GK - Aaron Keegan (50 OVR, 73-79): This 15-year old American projects as a backup at best for the club.
                  * Recent addition

Tony Turner (RB, 59 OVR), Pierre Tägtström (CDM, 62 OVR), and Andre Domingues (LW, 60 OVR), requested and received promotion to the senior roster.

                  International Friendlies

                  Wales - Mexico (3-0)

                  Yokuşlu 24'
                  Bale 73' (Allen)
                  John 90' (Vokes)
                  Bale 90+3' (Vokes)

Bradshaw 66' (Bruised shoulder, out for 9 days)

                  England - Wales (2-2)
                  Alli 66'
                  Solanke 75'
                  Bale 77' (Ledley)
                  Bishop 90+2' (Ledley)

Wales' last couple of warm-ups prior to their trip to Qatar this summer were successful matches for Marccelino's international squad as they dominated Mexico in Cardiff before mounting a comeback against The Three Lions in London. Gareth Bale in particular is looking in fine form as one of the strikers in the 5-3-2 and he could be a candidate for the scoring title at the World Cup.

                  April Schedule
                  4/2: vs Everton

4/17: vs Watford (F.A. Cup, at Wembley)
                  4/23: vs Liverpool
                  4/30: at Southampton

When the end of April arrives The Exiles may have a very clear idea as to whether they're still in contention for the league title or not. How they respond to the roller coaster of emotions that was March will be key to getting through a month that will test them both with a difficult opponents and a high volume of games, which may increase if they succeed in getting past Real Sociedad in the UEL. In what may be an indicator of how he's leaning on retirement, Farfán has expressed to the club his desire to win the F.A. Cup now that they're so close to the title game. It sounds like the skipper may want to ride into the sunset with at least some more hardware to show for.

                  Stay tuned

Trying to read through a few ongoing careers on here, I love the detail and pictures people are posting. I will start commenting more on careers once I have caught up to present time.

I started my videos, 2 posted on YouTube so far. I brought in Luke Shaw and sold Kevin Wimmer as the first transfers (along with selling some small players). Played three matches so far, vs Everton, at CP and vs Liverpool. All three have been close, exciting games.

                      January 2025

                      Grimsby Town 4 - 1 Arsenal FC
                      GRI - Morris 39', Burke 53', Lukaku 73', 79'
                      ARS - Barrera 82'
                      MOTM: Lukaku

Our form continues and we downed another top side in an impressive manner. We opened the scoring after an impressive display of passing ended with Boscagli playing it to Morris on the left and he slotted across to the far post. We doubled the lead in the second half when Kamada played it to Burke going down the right and he used his pace to get past the defense and then fired it across to the left side of the goal. Lukaku extended our advantage after Tousart played him up the middle and he easily beat the keeper on the right side. He then got his brace after Kelly played him through and he finished it to the exact same spot on the bottom right corner. They grabbed a consolation goal when Barrera got the ball and avoided a tackle before letting it fly from just inside the box into the top left corner.

                      Grimsby Town 1 - 0 Chelsea FC
                      GRI - Konate 68'
                      MOTM: Vieira

This was an ugly game on both ends, but we got the result we needed while giving our first choice players a much needed rest. We got the goal we needed in the second half when Vieira played it to Konate out on the left and he cut the ball back with a fake shot to get inside the defender and then placed it perfectly into the bottom right corner. It was uneventful the rest of the way and that scoreline stood.

                      F.A. Cup
                      Grimsby Town 3 - 2 Bolton Wanderers
                      GRI - Kelly 52', 75', 81'
                      BOL - Samizadeh 6', O'Connor 79'
                      MOTM: Kelly

Kelly got a hat-trick on the night, and we needed every last one of his goals. We fell behind early after they reset a cleared corner and caught us out of position by playing it to Samizadeh on the back post and he directed it past our keeper. In the second half Kelly equalized after Harris back-heeled a ball to him and he placed it inside the far post. Kelly then gave us the lead after we caught them on the counter and Konate played it ahead to Kelly and he chipped the keeper as he tried to rush out to stop it. But they equalized after our defense got overloaded and O'Connor got the ball in front of goal and fired it into the back of the net. It only took 2 minutes for us to regain the lead and Bennett sent a cross into the middle where Kelly was there to head it past the keeper to complete his hat-trick.

                      EFL Cup Semi-Final Leg 1
                      Arsenal FC 1 - 1 Grimsby Town
                      ARS - Toral 63'
                      GRI - Lukaku 19' (PEN)
                      MOTM: Lukaku

Arsenal probably deserved a win in this one as they assaulted our goal all night. We managed to sneak away with a draw though and more importantly a nice away goal to top it off. We got our goal in the first half after Burke got taken out inside the box as he tried to pass off the ball. Lukaku stepped to the spot and slotted it into the bottom right corner just out of the reach of the diving keeper. In the second half we gave the lead away though after a nice series of passing got Toral through on goal and he tucked it away past our keeper easily. Nothing much happened after that, but we now get to take an away goal back home for the second leg.

                      Brighton 0 - 4 Grimsby Town
                      GRI - Boscagli 18', 67', Lukaku 41', 87'
                      MOTM: Burke

We easily took care of this one, and should have had at least 2 or 3 more goals to go with it. Boscagli opened the scoring after winning a ball back inside the box and getting around the left side of the defense to fire it past the keeper. Lukaku doubled our lead after Burke played him through on the left and he placed his shot perfectly back to the bottom right corner. Boscagli got his second when Vieira played him around the left and he kept his shot low to beat the keeper to the far post. Then in the closing minutes Burke had the ball tackled away from him in the box and Lukaku reacted first to scoop it up and then fire it home to get his brace as well.

                      Grimsby Town 1 - 0 Swansea City
                      GRI - Lukaku 34'
                      MOTM: Lukaku

We left a ton of chances out there, but the one goal ended up being all we needed. We got ourselves on the scoresheet when Burke got down the right and fired a shot that was pushed away by the keeper but Lukaku was running in on the back post to tap it into the open net. That ended up being the deciding goal of the match and we grabbed all 3 points.

                      EFL Cup Semi-Final Leg 2
                      Grisby Town 2 (3) - (3) 2 Arsenal FC
                      GRI - Kamada 68', Lukaku 78'
                      ARS - Yilmaz 43', Elneny 52'
                      MOTM: Burke

We blew it. We had the chance to move on to the final but we absolutely threw this match away. Their opening goal was one of the best you will ever see as Yilmaz used his strength to hold off a defender and fired his shot from yards outside of the box and it hit off the crossbar and went in. Then the got the second away goal that would be the winner after Elneny got played the ball on the edge of the box and he struck it first time low across the goal into the bottom left corner. We tried to get it back though and Lukaku was able to play Kamada the ball in the middle and he fired it low under the keeper. Then 10 minutes later Burke was able to find Lukaku running into the middle and he placed his shot around the keeper to the left side of the goal to give us a chance to find a winner. Unfortunately that winner never materialized and we will have to watch the final from home now.

Man, I was keeping an eye on Spurs sitting in the relegation zone in my career and if they ended up getting relegated I was going to break the bank to bring in Dele Alli. Of course United just bought him in January ending my hopes of that.

                          FA Cup

                          MOTM: Kelly

City had a ton more chances than we did, but we were very clinical with the opportunities we did have and that made the difference. We opened the scoring right before the half after Konate used some skill to get past his man on the left and he sent a ball across the face of the goal for Kelly to tap in on the back post. Then in the final minute we put it to rest when Cardenas played Wright down the right and he picked out his spot and placed the ball to the bottom left corner. Then right after that we got another after Kelly played Harris through up the middle and he powered the ball around the keeper to put one last finishing touch on the night.

                          MOTM: Tousart

It should have been a clean sheet, but we frustratingly gave up a goal on the last kick of the match. We got the lead after Tousart played Boscagli down the left and he had his first shot blocked but it came right back to him and he fired it inside the far post. We got our second when Delgado played the ball to Lukaku and he made a great turn around the defense and then fired his shot off the post but followed up the rebound with a tap in. We extended it even further after Burke was taken out inside the box and Lukaku finished the penalty just under the keeper's arm as he over-committed to his dive. In the last minute Rashford attacked right at us and he played Amartey through up the middle and he slid down to direct it past the keeper as he tried to rush out to claim it.

                          Grimsby Town 3 - 0 Tottenham
                          GRI - Lukaku 11', 40', 70'
                          MOTM: Lukaku

Tottenham are somehow bottom of the table, and they certainly played like it today. Lukaku started off his impressive night early when Boscagli sent a cross into the middle and he rose up and headed it down into the bottom right corner. Lukaku then got his second when Delgado led the counter and laid it off to him at the last second and he finished it quickly into the goal. In the second half Lukaku then completed his hat-trick after Deslandes played him the ball on the right and he fired it from a tough angle low and inside the far post.

                          Liverpool FC 1 - 2 Grimsby Town
                          LIV - Stewart 45'

                          MOTM: Lukaku

Lukaku has now scored our last 7 straight goals after another impressive performance. He opened the scoring for us today after Delgado sent a great cross to the back post and he was able to separate from his man and power a header back across the goal. In the second half Stewart made a great run to get past our defense and get the ball just in front of goal and he slotted it past our keeper for the equalizer. But Lukaku continued his fine form and Vieira played him through on the left and he lined up his shot and then finished it low just past the keeper for the deciding goal.

                          GRI - Burke 25'
                          MOTM: Delgado

It's not a bad result, but we should have done so much better. We shouldn't have allowed the goal that we did, and we should have scored at least 2 more goals than we did. We got the lead in the first half when Delgado led us on the counter and he was able to play Burke through on the right and he fired his shot low to the bottom left corner. In the second half Kemen dribbled right through our defense and we took risks going for challenges that we shouldn't have and he took advantage to get past our back line and then slot it home for the equalizer. Still, we got an away goal and now we just have to take care of business in our own stadium.

                          GRI - Harris 35'
                          MOTM: Hunt

We really let ourselves down with some poor finishing. Now we will have to waste precious energy in a replay when the rest could do us a lot of good. They scored early with a volleyed cross sent into the box and Joao was there to head it in after our defense fell asleep trying to stay with him. But we got our equalizer when Konate played Harris around the right and he kept his shot low to the far post to force the replay.

We started out strong but faded really quick in this one but still managed to take a point from it. Lukaku opened the scoring in the first 5 minutes when Boscagli played him the ball and he found space to get his shot off and fired it low to the right of the keeper. But West Brom found an answer before the half was over and some good movement led to Roman getting an unmarked shot from right in front of goal and he was never going to miss that.

FA Cup Round of 16 Replay
                            Grimsby Town 2 - 1 Brighton

We did what we needed to do in the replay, but I still wish we wouldn't have had to play it. Konate started it off late in the first half after Harris played him through on the left and he finished it into the bottom right corner. Harris doubled our lead through sheer effort after he won the ball from them in the ensuing kick off and raced past their defense to slot it past the keeper. In the second half they did pull one back after the ball was cut back to Olivas Alba at the top of the box and he cut it onto his left foot but then fired it inside the near post catching everyone by surprise.

                            Grimsby Town 2 - 2 Manchester City

                            MOTM: Lukaku

The first half went about as bad as it could have, and then in the second half we completely turned it around. Ambrose gave them the lead after he got the bal in the middle and he took his time to line up his shot and then placed it inside the right post. Sterling doubled that lead after a free kick was pinged around a few times and he finally made an acrobatic move to contort and volley the ball past our keeper. The second half started our comeback after Morris had his shot saved and Lukaku followed up the rebound and put it into the net. Then in the closing minutes Lukaku played Burke running in on the left and he placed his shot under the keeper for the equalizer.

                            MOTM: Boscagli

It looked shaky when the referee gave them a first half penalty, but we bagged 2 in the second half to advance us through to the quarter finals. In the first half Johnstone came out to claim a ball from Lacazette, but he ended up taking the player down instead and the referee pointed to the spot. Lacazette powered it into the top left corner to cancel out our away goal from the first leg. In the second half Tousart played the ball to Boscagli on the left and he made a great turn around his defender and then fired his shot across to the far post for the equalizer. Then Morris tried to play the ball to Boscagli running up the middle but the ball was deflected away from him, but straight to Lukaku and he was able to slide down and direct the ball around the keeper for the deciding goal.

                            MOTM: Harris

We crushed Arsenal in just about every way possible. Harris had a memorable day with a hat-trick and he dominated them. Harris opened the scoring after Kamada played him the ball behind the back line and his first shot was saved, but the rebound found the back of the net with his second effort. Spencer doubled our lead after Konate played him the ball around the left and he finished it low to the bottom right corner. Harris then got his second on the day after he split two defenders and then pushed through on goal and placed his shot under the keeper. Then for his final goal on the night he got the ball running to the right and he fired his shot right through the keeper's legs to complete his hat-trick.

                              League Match 30
FC Barcelona - Atlético Madrid (2-0)
                              Messi 30' (Müller)
                              Messi 77' (Müller)

Lionel Messi had more goals than Atlético had shots on goal as our captain led us to a big win at home to get us one step closer to clinching the league title. We were sharp in this game, letting the visitors get the edge in possession but being far more potent than them in the attack, putting 6 of our 8 shots on target.

Euro League - Quarter Final, 1st Leg
                              FC Barcelona - FC Schalke 04 (1-1)
                              Goretzka 10'
                              Busquets 90' (Vidal)

Schalke's defense was suffocating in this game, limiting our scoring opportunities. It wouldn't have been too big of a deal if we hadn't scored that late equalizer but it sure was nice to get it after working hard all day to put up at least one goal on the board. The second leg is going to be unlike any we have played so far.

                              League Match 31
Sevilla FC - FC Barcelona (0-2)
                              Sandro 36' (pen)
                              Sandro 79' (Tello)

With the important second game against Schalke later this week my hand was forced to roll out the B-squad at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán and our depth came through. Sevilla has undoubtedly had a letdown season but they have been much better since acquiring Thibaut Courtois during the winter,
a big reason why they have escaped the relegation zone and are on the verge of breaking into the top-10 of the table while also still contending in the Champions'. What I'm trying to point out is that they are not an easy opponent despite where they stand on the table and that it was big of our second unit to get us another three points closer to the title.

Euro League - Quarter Final, 2nd Leg
                              FC Schalke 04 - FC Barcelona (1-4, 2-5 agg)
                              Lukaku 18'
                              Müller 77' (Busquets)
                              Messi 99' (Vidal)
                              Vidal 102' (Messi)
                              Müller 116' (Busquets)

Woah did this go from being a close call to a beatdown. Schalke made us sweat for 77 minutes until Müller was finally able to break through to even up the game and the aggregate score. We missed a chance to win it near the end of regulation but came out firing in extra time to beat the will out of the German side with each of the three goals we scored in the 30 additional minutes. On to the semi finals we go!

                              League Match 32
FC Barcelona - Villareal CF (3-1)
                              Samper 5' (Amartey)
                              Tello 12' (Amartey)
                              Munir 77'

                              Alfonso 86'
                              Trigueros 38'
Douglas 29' (Sprained knee, out for 3 weeks)

With just one day of rest after the 120 minutes in Germany I had to turn to my B-squad for help and they took care of business since the early going to put us on the verge of clinching the league title. The red card to Manu Trigueros probably tilted the game in our favor but it was a deserved red card and we had already jumped off to a two-goal lead thanks to great services from Daniel Amartey.

                              League Match 33
Granada CF - FC Barcelona (1-1)
                              Tello 22' (Khalifi)
                              Herrera Pérez 80'

With just two days of rest after the Villareal game and with an UEL match at home in two days I rolled out a deep B-squad for this game at Los Cármenes, and by that I mean a lot of academy graduates either got to start or play off the bench. Even after reaching deep into our roster for this lineup Granada couldn't get much going against us as we won possession (57%)
and fired 12 shots (half on target).

Later that day Real Madrid could only muster a 1-1 draw at Las Palmas,
which officially made us LA LIGA CHAMPIONS!

Euro League - Semi Final, 1st Leg
                              FC Barcelona - Saint-Étienne (2-0)
                              Busquets 38' (Alba)
                              Vidal 57' (Roberto)

Saint-Étienne proved to be a worthy opponent by shutting down our front three but luckily for us our midfielders stepped up to provide a couple of goals and our defense came up with a clean sheet to keep the French club from even getting an away goal, giving us a solid edge in this first leg.

                              League Match 34
Bilbao Athletic - FC Barcelona (0-2)
                              Amartey 45' (Montoya)
                              Piqué 79' (Tello)

Rafinha 7' (Bruised elbow, out for 5 days)

The B-squad got to take the field in our first game as league champions and they continued to roll in the great form they've been in, putting 9 of their 12 shots on target and not letting the home team reach the target on the three shots they allowed. Undoubtedly our B-squad has played a big role in the success we have had so far this season.

Euro League - Semi Final, 2nd Leg
                              Saint-Étienne - FC Barcelona (0-2, 0-4 agg)
                              Messi 11'
                              Müller 31' (Roberto)

                              Cruz Torres 82'
Vidal 55' (Bruised elbow, out for 5 days)

Messi and Müller each have had incredible seasons in my first year with the club but the real story from this match-up was our defense which once again shut down Saint-Étienne to help us reach the UEL final without too much drama. Our superiority over the French club was unequivocal over both games.

                              League Match 35
FC Barcelona - Real Madrid (4-1)
                              Ronaldo 18' (pen)
                              Rafinha 42' (Messi)
                              Rafinha 45+2' (Müller)
                              Messi 66'
                              Messi 74' (Müller)

Becoming league champions was awesome but that achievement wouldn't have felt whole if we hadn't gotten our revenge against Real after losing to them in the earlier league match. This game was an illustration of how much better than our rivals we have been this season - we never even panicked after Ronaldo's goal. Rafinha's quick brace just before the half was a real back-breaker and Messi put the game to rest with this gorgeous free kick midway through the second half (you can tell by Kroos' reaction he knew the game was over then):

Messi scoring his league-leading 26th goal.

Review: Undoubtedly I'm feeling really good about how this season can close out. I was able to win La Liga in my first season at the club and win it in dominant fashion. If we don't lose form too much over our last three league games we will finish as the team with the most goals scored and the least goals given up. The defensive prowess only showed up towards the latter part of the season but our attacking power has been on display all season long as you may have noticed. We have scored over 30 more goals than the second best team and will more than likely finish the season with triple-digit league goals. Messi and Müller nearly made a mockery of the scoring and assist races. Someone asked earlier in the season if Neymar is having a down season and my answer would be no. He continues to grade as one of our best players this season and a lot of times he's involved in the work up to the goals. However, he is carrying a bit of a dry spell over the last few games and I'm hopeful he'll be able to break that before season's end.

The board expects us to sweep everywhere and win both the Copa Del Rey and the UEL in addition to the league title and fortunately for us we have put ourselves in position to do just that. I will manage the players' minutes to make sure they're fresh for both finals.

                              La Masia
                              (listed by ranking)

CAM - Javier Marquez (61 OVR, 87-93 POT): Now a 17-year old from Spain described as a playmaker. Marquez is a smaller prospect (5'5",143lbs) but he has exciting potential. We're hopeful he'll be able to develop into a winger.

CM - Esteban Fuentes (60 OVR, 85-94): 17-year old from Venezuela described as technically gifted. Fuentes looks like a promising midfielder for both the club and his country. He is very shifty, showcasing excellent ball control (79), dribbling (77) and agility (73).

LM - Pablo Acosta (57 OVR, 82-88): 17-year old from Argentina and yet another technically gifted prospect for the club. Acosta's agility (80) is easily his best attribute and he also possess the kind of pace (71acc/70spd) at his age that makes us comfortable about how he projects at his position.

LM - Ismael Barrios (57 OVR, 82-94): This 15-year old from Argentina is the newest technically gifted prospect in our academy. Barrios displays noticeable balance (74) and ball control (73) and has a ton of room to grow for being an already developed prospect.

ST - Flavio Mansilla (62 OVR, 80-86): 16-year old from Venezuela described as technically gifted. Mansilla is solidifying himself as the academy's top striker, showing excellent ball control (78) for his age to go with exciting dribbling (74), acceleration (73), and agility (72).

CDM - Diego Menendez (49 OVR, 81-87): Now an 18-year old from Argentina described as technically gifted. Menendez is very raw but shows high potential so we were willing to take a bit of a gamble with him. His agility (83) is impressive for someone who is so raw overall.

CM - Jose Vargas (44 OVR, 81-91): This 15-year old from Argentina described as an attacker is the rawest prospect in the academy but his potential was too enticing to pass up on him. His pace (75acc/68spd) and agility (70) are what stand out at this time.

CM - Emigdio Quiroga (59 OVR, 76-90): 17-year old from Argentina descried as technically gifted. Quiroga displays excellent ball control (81) and agility (78) early on.

CF - Eligio Domínguez (56 OVR, 79-85): 15-year old from Venezuela described as technically gifted. Domínguez doesn't have a particular attribute that jumps off the page but he projects as someone showing great potential.

RM - Luis Sanchez (54 OVR, 72-90): 15-year old from Argentina described as, you guessed it, technically gifted. Sanchez has good pace (69acc/65spd) for his age to go with notable agility (73).

LM - Valerio Segura (58 OVR, 77-83): 17-year old from Venezuela who is technically gifted. Segura is a very agile (79) midfielder with good pace (74acc/69spd) who may be more of a fit as a winger in our system.

RB - Manuel Navarro (50 OVR, 77-83): 15-year old from Spain described by scouts as an attacker. Navarro actually possesses decent pace (72 acc/70 spd) at a very young age and is very agile (72) as well. However, he's so raw as a defender he can't even be called a defender at this time. He projects as a depth player.

CAM - Daniel Lugano (60 OVR, 74-80): Also a 17-year old Venezuelan described as technically gifted who is also very agile (79). Since I'm able to make better evaluations of Venezuelan prospects I know Lugano, who is 5'11" and 154lbs, can also play as either a CF or CM so we're excited about his versatility on the pitch.

CB - Sergio Torres (55 OVR, 74-80): 15-year old from Spain described as physically strong. Torres oozes some impressive traits for his young age such as his aggression (74), jumping (73), strength (65), and pace (71 acc/68 spd) but he's raw as a defender and will need to work hard on that aspect of his game.
                              * Recent addition

                              Remaining schedule
                              5/7: at Real Sociedad
                              5/10: vs Málaga CF
                              5/14: vs Valencia CF
5/18: vs AS Monaco (Euro League)
5/29: vs Levante UD (Copa Del Rey)

We get three more league games to wrap up this championship season before we play in back-to-back finals as we try to accomplish this treble. Monaco has a good squad and they will be in the Champions' next season, plus at the moment they have an outside shot of winning Ligue 1. Levante has been the surprise team in La Liga this season and they're also fighting to get into the Champions' next season. They nearly upset us in the opening game of the season but the rematch last month was a dominant win for us.

                              Wish me luck!

Sorry for no Dundalk in a little bit, Work has been kicking my *** and I've also been training to get back into football(soccer in america) as a keeper, and as a Centre Half. I originally quit that because I had a bad injury in high school and now I'm cleared to play again. For those curious about my body build I'm 6'2 195 lbs currently and I'm trying to slim down a bit and get my stamina back up. Im in February of season 2 with Dundalk so I have updates done I just need to actually post them.
