    Challenging the Champions

    November 2014

    Hertha 4 - 0 Bayern Munich
    Ramos 53', 62' pen, Origi 77', 90'

Last season's champions got humiliated on the full Olympiastadion. Hertha were simply the better team. The first half was pretty boring but in the second half Hertha took over the match completely. Adrian Ramos cut in from the left, dribbled past Boateng and Dante and he put the ball to the top corner with a powerful shot. About 10 minutes later the Colombian got his second from the spot after a call for handball. Later the young Belgian, Divock Origi got two goals to his name, both from counter attacks. Ganchev's side didn't give any space for Bayern to create attacks.

    Hertha 4 - 0 Twente, Champions League
    Schär 21', Lasogga 34', Stocker 47', Origi 74'

    Augsburg 0 - 2 Herthaa
    Ramos 5' pen, 13'

    Werder Bremen 1 - 2 Hertha
    Di Santo 57'
    Lasogga 44', Valencia 88'

Hertha 2 - 1 Atletico Madrid, Champions League
    Ramos 51' pen, Valencia 63'
    Diego Costa 87'

A pretty boring game which ended up in the Berliners taking their fifth win in the Champions League. The penalty got called when Enner Valencia tried chipping the ball over the keeper which ended up in a penalty. Ten minutes later it was the Ecuadorian himself who scored Hertha's second when he received a long pass from Valentin Stocker. This time the striker succeeded in the chip. Before the end Arda Turan crossed from the left and Costa headed the ball to the net. With one game left Ganchev's side secured first place in their group unbeaten.

    Hertha 1 - 0 Hamburger SV
    Ramos 65'

    League Table, December 1st

    1. Hertha BSC, 48 pts
    2. VfL Wolfsburg, 45 pts
    3. Borussia Dortmund, 39 pts
    4. Bayern Munich, 39 pts
    5. FC Schalke, 30 pts
    6. VfL Stuttgart, 29 pts
    ---------------------------------
    16. FC Kaiserslautern, 12 pts (playoff spot)
    17. FC St Pauli, 9 pts
    18. Werder Bremen, 7 pts

    Champions League Group

    1. Hertha BSC, 15 pts
    2. Inter Milan, 7 pts
    3. Atletico Madrid, 4 pts
    4. FC Twente 3 pts

This time I won't write a press conference because nothing special has happened.

Thank you for reading the post! Hope you have enjoyed it! Any suggestions and feedback will be appreciated!

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Europe stunned as UEFA sanctions border crossings

In what is surely to go down as one of the most significant events in European football's history, UEFA has for the first time ratified the transfer of a club from one national association to another.

Formerly attached to the Österreichischer Fußball-Bund (OFB), Red Bull Salzburg has been re-affiliated to the Deutscher Fußball-Bund (DFB) and will contest the upcoming 2. Bundesliga season. VfR Aalen, who did not satisfy the DFB's requirements for license renewal, will now contest the Austrian Football Bundesliga in Red Bull's place.

To satisfy German league requirements that no one entity own the majority of a club (barring factory teams), Red Bull GmbH have agreed to sell 51% of the club's stake to supporters and supporter groups. The club will face sporting restrictions in order to compensate for their newfound status as a potential heavyweight of German football. Red Bull may not make any transfer signings until July 2014 and will be given five seasons to ensure that their playing squad meets the DFB's standards for homegrown players.

A homegrown player is defined as one who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with a club affiliated to the DFB for a continuous or broken period of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to: turning 21 or the end of the season during which he turns 21.

Hitzfeld unveiled as Red Bull manager

Ottmar Hitzfeld, the 64-year-old head coach of the Switzerland national team, has been named manager of Red Bull Salzburg on a one-year contract with an option to extend for a further season.

The former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund boss, who originally planned to retire from all coaching after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, has taken up the job in a mentoring capacity to groom his assistant Indiblue. He is highly rated by Hitzfeld for his man management skills and tactical nous.

Gentlemen, congratulations and welcome to Salzburg. First question is for Ottmar. Why did you change your mind about retirement?

This young man sitting next to me is why. He's already such a wonderful student of the game, and he's able to read his players so well. Because of that, he is able to communicate his messages perfectly and in the method that works best for the individual. When there is someone this talented, you have to pass on what you know, even if it's just in a year.

So he'll be taking over from you next summer?

It will be either next summer or the one after that, but no later than 2015. I simply do not have the energy to continue beyond then. Even if I extend my contract next year, it will only be to advise and teach.

So just how is this arrangement going to work?

I am here this year to help make sure that we get promoted to the top flight right away. That is where we deserve to be, but it is unfair to the other clubs if we get favoured and placed there right after joining this league. We have to earn our way there, and so we will. My option for a season's extension is in case my presence is again needed to stabilise the club, but that is something I leave to my assistant and the board to decide.

Indiblue, what will you be looking after?

First of all, thanks for the warm welcome. This season, I'll focus on four major aspects of this club. The first is overseeing training of the first team – this includes fitness and injury recovery. Second is dealing with the players themselves, sorting out concerns like wage increases and contract extensions. Third, I will be involved in developing a tactical system to help us win; a system that will define us. Last but not least is speaking with the press. Ottmar will only attend the major press conferences, and I'll be doing the pre- and post-match interviews.

What about transfers? How do you feel about the embargo?

Player acquisition is a department where Ottmar and I are working together. He wanted to leave it down to me, as I'm going to be here in the long term, but his experience and perspective are invaluable. We've agreed that I will have final say, but both of us will discuss all potential targets with the board.

As for the embargo, I'm not very much in favour of it. It seems slightly harsh and unfair, but I do have circumstance for bias. Since the league has imposed it, we have no choice but to follow it. The boys we have at the club are good enough to secure promotion, and thankfully we can agree pre-contracts in January if we choose to.

What's your long-term vision for Red Bull?

Red Bull is criticised for turning the football club into a business model and franchise, but there is something different about this new move. The football is our first concern, and I would like to make this club successful. Thankfully, the finances of our owners means that we have minimal debt. With good management and sensible transfers, that can be solved within a year or two.

We have also increased the Red Bull Arena's capacity by nearly 60% so that we can handle the increased demand for tickets that will come with our newfound status. This includes normal seating, as well as corporate boxes and suites. By the end of this season, we will have a maximum capacity of 54,000.

Of course we would like to win the Bundesliga title within the next five seasons, and I think that will be very possible, especially if we can qualify for the Champions League along the way. Bayern Munich will be especially difficult to dethrone, and Borussia Dortmund and Schalke will give us plenty of tough matches. If we are to win, though, we must beat the best. I know that this club is in for a bright future.

Hello, this is my first post. I know some teams I wouldn't mind doing, but I what I think would be a good idea for the post. Say I do a FC Barcelona B career, then somebody else does a RM Castilla [Is that how its spelled? Lol] career. Or vice versa. We then update (probably monthly from what I've been reading) and try to become a better team then the respective A teams (FC Barcelona and Real Madrid). It'd be tough, but it is still yet possible. So, if anybody is interested quote this post and include in the post which of the 2 teams you'd want. Also, if there do happen to be multiple posts, the first post will be basically the one I will end up being the person I do the comparative career mode with. If you really still want to do a FCBB or RMC career, by all means go ahead. Lol. I guess I'll just put this up for now and see if anybody wants to do this, if not I guess I'll be starting my own career mode.

          Lazio Monthly Update

Lazio vs Napoli, 2-3: They started with an early goal but I bounced back. They again scored but late in the game I also scored again. But, in stoppage time they used a header to put it away. I forgot to see who scored the goals and when.

Lazio vs Torino, 3-0: A great game where Torino, who is ahead of me in the table, played awful while I played great.

          Lazio Goals:
          24' Ledesma
          30' Ledesma
82' Candreva: 7th goal of the season

          Torino Goals:
          N/A

          Man of the Match: Ledesma

Lazio vs Livorno, 0-1: I took plenty of shots but none hit the back of the net. They took 1/3 of the shots I took but still won.

          Lazio Goals:
          N/A

          Livorno Goals:
          52' Paulinho

          Man of the Match: Paulinho

Lazio vs Hellas Verona , 1-1: I played sloppy defense the entire game but still didn't give up a goal till the 90th minute. Hellas Verona is awful too.

          Lazio Goals:
          47' Mauri

          Hellas Verona Goals:
          90' Romulo

Man of the Match: Mauri, 8.6 rating

Konko is homesick and demands a transfer. Cavanda, the 22 year old, demands a transfer because of lack of playing time. I've gotten offers for Konko but all from Italy, so that won't help his homesickness.

Most people here already have a career going, but you never know, someone might be interested. Had you posted a while ago, I'd have suggested Porto and Benfica.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Guys, I've developed an incredible system of play. It's a mix of the 2004-06 Chelsea, the 2009-11 Barcelona, and the 2012-14 Bayern. You play short, neat passes across a compact midfield that stretches wide in order to create chaos.

              Start with your standard 4-1-4-1.

              DEFENCE
Move your RB & LB two clicks up and one click closer to their respective touchlines. Move the RCB and LCB two clicks towards their respective full backs.

Work rates: Give both full backs H/M and attacking runs forward. Your centre backs can be either H/M + M/H or M/M + M/H; just make sure one of them is M/H.

              MIDFIELD
Move your RCM to the halfway line, push him out towards the right until he can't go any further, and move 6 clicks up. Do the same for the LCM, but move him 10 clicks up. Place the CDM at the halfway line, move him back 6 clicks and up (towards the LB & LM) 1 click. This replicates the arrangement of Barcelona's midfield shape.

The CDM can be either M/H or M/M, but make sure his defensive run tracks back between the RCB and LCB. This will make him a third CB. The RCM is M/M or H/H and should track back in defense, and the LCM is H/M.

              ATTACK
Move the RM & LM up until they can't go any further without becoming RW & LW. Keep the striker where he is.

Work rates: Wide men and striker all need high attacking work rates. Adjust their defensive work rates based on how you want them to play. I have a H/H striker who links up with the midfield, a H/M winger on the left, and a H/L winger on the right. Both wingers need attacking runs towards goal.

I'm talking about 6-8 players here, selling them and replacing them with world class talent, mostly British and homegrown. The new boys in question will depend on how much I get from the board and how much I get from sales.

So I put forth a poll to you guys... Rebuild a new, British-heavy team at Brighton OR move to Real Madrid/Juventus/PSG and build a team there?
I haven't read the rest of the thread yet so you may have already made a decision, but I think you have put in your time at Brighton and if you wanna move to the next level there's nothing wrong with that

Brighton secure treble, Indiblue signs off

In an historic season following their first-ever top flight title, Brighton & Hove Albion won the continental treble of the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

Despite falling six points behind Manchester City in early March, Brighton made up the points by capitalising on a City loss to West Ham in April with a convincing 4-0 trumping of Bolton. When the two sides met at the Amex on the final day of May, Brighton were two points behind the Manchester side. A narrow 1-0 win, with Will Buckley scoring the only goal four minutes into the match, secured their second straight league title. The FA Cup final against Liverpool proved one-sided, with the Seagulls coming away with a 5-1 win thanks to a hat-trick by Nabil Ghilas and goals from Izet Hajrovic and Terence Kongolo.

In the Champions League, Brighton topped their group ahead of Juventus and followed it up by dispatching of Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16, losing 4-2 in Germany before a 3-1 win in England put them up against Milan. The first leg in Italy was a goalless draw, and the return leg in England was a narrow 1-0 win for Brighton courtesy an own goal from Cristian Zapata. In the semi-finals, Brighton faced their toughest opponent yet in Real Madrid. They won 2-0 at home before going to the Bernabeu, where Madrid won 2-1 but were knocked out on aggregate. In the all-English final, Brighton took on Manchester City in what proved to be a thrilling encounter. Two goals by Wayne Rooney gave City the upper hand, but Will Buckley scored a brace of his own in the second half to force extra time and penalties. It was destiny once again, as Fraser Forster saved a massive three spot kicks to give the club their first ever Champions League title!

Will Buckley cemented his place in history by scoring 36 league goals, thus becoming the first Premier League player to cross the 35-goal landmark in a season. He recorded an aggregate of 44 goals in all competitions, with a further 14 assists. This culminated in a £28 million move to Barcelona.

Indiblue announced that he would be stepping down from Brighton to pursue non-football activities. "I've had an amazing four seasons with this club. To have won what we did with the resources at our disposal in so little time speaks volumes of the talent of these players. This group has ensured its place in history as one of the all-time great units, and though many of them are likely to move to other clubs this summer, they will forever be bound by this joint success," he said.

"Thank you to the board for the constant support and assistance. Thank you to the fans. You are the most amazing supporters in the world, and your encouragement has been so important to us. And last but not least, thank you to the players. All of you gave your 100%, and it's because of your effort that this club can enjoy its new status as one of the greatest in England, Europe, and the world. Brighton will always remain a part of who I am."

It was announced after that press conference that Brighton had appointed former veteran centre half Gordon Greer as their new manager. The Scot has been handed a whopping budget of £60 million.

So that's it from me, lads. I was planning to stay on longer at Brighton, but it was a mixture of monotony and boredom that led me to call it a day. Not to worry, I've got another career coming soon. In fact, first update (intro, background, budget, transfer targets) should be up later today. Cheers for all the support and feedback!
                      CONGRATULATIONS on a great career!

                        Dagenham - '13-'14 season
                        March update

First things first. Richard Paez rejected Jagiellonia's job offer as well as a more recent offer from SC Olhanense (who are currently second to last in Liga Portugesa). Ultimately Paez is too invested on what he's got going in east London and has informed his agent that he will not be leaving the club at this time.

Back to the current season, the Daggers have gotten through another eventful month. Did they manage to go through 6 games undefeated? Let's find out

                        @ Fleetwood Town: 0-0 Draw.
                        Vs Wimbledon: 3-0 Win.
                        @ York City: 1-0 Win.
                        @ Exeter City: 1-1 Draw.
                        Vs Oxford United: 2-0 Win.
                        Vs. Plymouth Argyle: 0-1 Loss.

That close. All in all another successful month that, as you will see, has put us at the cusp of clinching a top-7 finish in the league this season. As you may know that is very important as the top 3 teams in the league achieve promotion to League 1 while the 4 remaining teams enter a playoff, the winner of which also obtains promotion to League 1. Not many expected Dagenham to be among the top 7 teams before this season, one would argue the club's board included, so for the Daggers to be able to accomplish that feat maybe as soon as after the next game speaks volumes of the work that Paez has put in this season (and probably further explains why he is rejecting job offers from other teams in Europe.

                        10. Wycombe - 39/17/10/12/50/49/+1 - 61pts

Did I mention Abu Ogogo won Player of the Month for February? Well, he just made it back to back awards after receiving the honors for the month of March. Our Captain and CDM has started every game in every competition for the team so far and has also played nearly every minute as I believe he has only been subbed out once. He's been a rock for the team and I'm happy to see that the media has started to notice his excellent level of play.

Mark Birighitti's loan has expired and he has returned to the Newcastle Jets from Australia. Jordan Seabright once again takes over as the starting goalkeeper. Could another Jordan (Derbyshire) join the squad soon?

No new additions to the squad after the first reports from Germany and Denmark but there are some news regarding the academy.

                        - Jamie Black (GK, 46-48 OVR, 72-78 POT): An intriguing 16 Y/O prospect from Scotland who stands at 6'7", 194lbs.
                        - Jordan Derbyshire (GK, 52-56, 82-88): This 16 Y/O kid from England is arguably the better GK prospect. He's 6 inches shorter than Black.
                        - Xabi Lopez (DEF, 42-44, 69-73): 16 Y/O kid from Spain will be a CG or CDM but I'm disappointed that his potential is so low.
                        - Keith Carey (ATT, 42-44, 72-78): This 17 Y/O from Scotland is now expected to be an attacker. Has informed the club's board that he wants to cancel his contract as he feels that he's ready to be called up to the senior squad.
                        - Fabian Torres (MID, 46-48, 72-78): This 16 Y/O from Spain is likely to be a CAM/CM.
                        - Kagetoki Miyoshi (DEF/MID, 41-45, 78-86): This 15 Y/O kid from Japan ia someone we're very excited about.
                        * Denotes recent addition to the Y.A.

Sources tells us that Paez is not inclined to promote Carey at the moment regardless of his demands. With just 7 games remaining this season, each likely to be key in the team's attempt to earn a promotion to League 1, it's unlikely any player from the Youth Academy will be able to contribute at this time.

Alright well, I'll probably give this a little more time just in case somebody feels their career mode is getting stale, or they want to start a new one, or even someone new comes to the community and wants to join in. Otherwise I will do my own, and I probably still will use one of these two teams just because I like the idea behind it.

First off, thanks for the words on my Brighton career. I think it was a splendid run, but perhaps a bit better than I expected. Overachieving can get a bit dull. Moving on...

Excellent. Glad to see you sticking with the lads. It'll surely pay off for you in the long run.

Bloody tight month, but hopefully you continue this form. Just five points dropped out of 18 and just two goals conceded is excellent form.

You have a very interesting end to the season headed your way. Seven games left with absolutely everything to play for. I think taking 15/21 points will get you where you want to be. Good luck, hope you get promoted and also win the league title!

It would be cool if you still did the career mode. I made a Barcelona B career back in '11 and it was fun playing against the senior teams in the Copa Del Rey. A lot of fun especially if you're a Barcelona/Real fan but hate big budgets in career mode. Good luck!

Not so much a Barca/Real fan, which would make it even more bitter sweet for me to overtake them, and I can agree with you about hating big budgets in career mode.
