It Only Took 14 Years
As you already know, the "Phoenix Club" AFC Wimbledon have been promoted to the Premier League! The club achieved 8 promotions in 14 years, becoming the first club founded in the 21st century, not only to ascend to the Football League the fastest, but to be promoted to the Premier League as well. Thousands of fans at Kingsmeadow shed tears as they witnessed their club rise from the Combined Counties league to now the Barclay's Premier League. The hashtag #ItOnlyTook14Years is a current trend on Twitter followed by #WeAreWimbledon, #TheRealDons, and finally #mkWho. Chavez will now have his hands full as he prepares for next season, but first lets take a look at Wimbledon's final match of the season.
FA Cup Final
AFC Wimbledon 2 - 3 Tottenham
WIM: Murphy 43' Tafazolli 113'
TOT: Soldado 57' Eriksen 105' Dembele 115'
A great match that we didn't want to end. Murphy opened the score but not from a direct shot. He attempted a cross but the Tottenham captain Dawson deflected the ball with his chest, which then rose over the keeper, hit the far post, and went into the net. Soldado equalized in the second half and the match went into halftime where most of the action took place as you can see. Lloris made some of the best saves of the entire tournament today, stopping every incredible shot Terry Gornell gave him. The Wimbledon players were very emotional after this tough defeat, but Chavez was quick to remind his players that just the fact they made it this far is already one of the club's greatest achievements.

The Don's goalkeeper Ross Worner has won the Golden Glove award for the 3rd time in a row after finishing this season with 15 clean sheets!! Julio Cesar finished right behind him with 14 clean sheets. Fulham's new striker Lima was awarded the Golden Boot with 19 goals, while Wigan's McClean finished with the most assists at 13. No AFC Wimbledon player made it to the Top 5 of those two awards.
Terry Gornell was awarded the Golden Boot in the Europa League with 13 goals while his fellow teammate Jacob Murphy had the most assists at 8.
32 year old Jack Midson has signed a new 1-year contract with Wimbledon which includes a 100% salary increase, a 5% bonus per goal, and a lesser squad role. Here are Midson's words regarding the new contract. "I'm glad to be able to stay at this club even if I won't be seeing as much play time. Chavez sat down with me and explained to me what he has for my future and we were able to reach an agreement. I'm very excited to be part of this team's first ever Premier League squad."
A reminder that Luke Freeman will be joining AFC Wimbledon at the end of his contract with Stevenage in July. His arrival may mark the possible departure of 21 year old left-back Tom Richards from AFC Wimbledon. Richards has been with the senior team since 2013 when he was only 18 and has been a starter in Chavez's lineup since his arrival in League 2, but this year the player has puffed his chest out a little too much. Earlier in the season the player demanded a salary raise. The Wimbledon staff agreed with his demands, but the player still refused to sign the contract. He let the rumors of his departure drag on and on for months until finally signing the new contract in January. After signing the new contract, the player was never happy at the club and frequently criticized the management staff. This led to the player finally losing his starting spot to Elliott Hewitt in the FA Cup final. It is said that Chavez may experiment with new formations in the upcoming preseason, but even if he doesn't, Luke Freeman is a player that can play anywhere on the left wing and can easily take Richard's place. Here is what Chavez had to say regarding Richards. "If he didn't want to sign the new contract he didn't have to sign it. Simple as that. Nobody forced him to sign. There was absolutely no need to sign the new contract and then sit back and criticize the staff's work. That is disrespectful to the club, the players, and most importantly the fans as we have all worked hard to get this far. Listen, we love all of our homegrown players, but if the player doesn't want to be here then hey, the door is right over there. We need players that are committed to this club and remember where they came from. I can tell you that Richards forgot what he is playing for: the fans."
Strong words from Chavez but we agree with all of them. Well, that is all we have for you today. Don't forget to tune in tomorrow as we will bring to you detailed squad report with our ratings. For HYFCMG this has been ChicoBass, Thanks for reading!
