Dagenham '15-16 Season
August Update
TRANSFERS OUT: Fabian Torres (CAM, 62 OVR), loaned to Yeovil Town for short term. Louis Dennis (RM, 58 OVR), sold to Carlisle United for $160K. Xabi Lopez (CDM, 58 OVR), loaned to Crewe Alexandra for a full season.
TRANSFER IN: Yohan Wachter (CB, 60 OVR), purchased from FC Lorient in exchange for Ahmed Mohsen, agreed to a 4-year deal for $3K in wages.
Quick notes from those moves, Torres had fallen out of the sub rotation with the arrival of Hourihane who could possibly be moved in the winter window so a short-term loan was his best chance for PT. Dennis was a sure target for sale after he barely progressed (+1) after 2 seasons. Lopez is blocked by Ogogo who has amazing stamina and plays every game so we don't want to hamper his development. He was, however, filing in from time to time at CB which is why we brought in Wachter (recall that our best CB, Wilkinson, is out for a while with injury). Mohsen was a surplus at striker and it was nice to be able to make a deal without shelling out money. By the way Wachter was previously on our roster on a short loan for the beginning of the '13-'14 season (was at 55 OVR at the time).

I have THE worst luck in cup play. There. Nothing else I wanna say about that.
As far as actual league play I can't be upset about an undefeated month even if most of the results weren't wins. As a lot of us know this isn't an easy league to go into just two years after the team was in League Two. My conclusion regarding lower-ranked teams? Good goalies help A LOT. I definitely don't go undefeated without Schober who has been amazing this first month, especially against Stoke City when he had 8 saves, an 8.2 game rating and POG honors.
You know what really sucks? Right as September begins we get an email from our trainers letting us know that Adamo Tena suffered a broken tailbone in practice and will be out for about 5 months. Remember when I short-loaned Torres because of the logjam at CAM? Welp. Hourihane steps up as the starting CAM but that means only Payne is there to back up the position so ... it was time to call up our best prospect, Fernando Monzon. When we first signed the Venezuelan to the academy I thought he'd be a CB but it turns out he's a CDM/CM with solid attack ratings and coming in at 68 OVR with potential to be special he'll definitely see PT in the rotation as a sub. Could he become Ogogo's eventual successor? Time will tell. In the meantime the right-footed 17 year-old with a 5-star weak foot will be carefully watched by the team and the media.
No new additions have been made to the academy although we recently sent one of our scouts for a 3-month trip to Italy in search of attackers. Here's our youth squad:
- Kenneth Hansen (LM/LW, 49-53, 68-72): 16 Y/O from Denmark whose best chance to contribute to the senior squad comes with staying in the academy for another season.
- Manuel Burchert (CM, 52-56, 69-73): 17 Y/O from Germany in the same boat as Hansen
- Tim Brooks (CDM, 60-64, 82-88): 15 Y/O from the United States who will likely be called up to the senior team after this upcoming season.
- Emilo De Mesquites (CM, 52-56, 71-75): 16 Y/O kid from Portugal would be smart to stay in the academy for a full season.
- Victor Meyer (DEF/MID, 58-62, 75-81): 16 Y/O from the United States who will most likely play in the midfield. He needs a full season in the academy.
- Francisco Anibal (LM, 55-59, 72-76): 15 Y/O from Portugal is finally settled at a position.
- Goncalvo Guterres (MID/ATT, 45-49, 64-72): This 16 Y/O from Portugal is our lowest rated prospect at the moment.
- David Antonio (MID/ATT, 46-54, 72-84): 15 Y/O from will for sure not be a defender and we're hoping he sticks at CF.
- Brian Donaldson (MID/ATT, 39-51, 64-84): 15 Y/O from England signed because his size (6'2", 174lbs) and skills project him as a striker which is a position of need for the club.
- Enric Tilea (CM 39-45, 65-77): 15 Y/O from Romania is finally settled at a position but probably needs a couple of years in the academy.
* Denotes recent addition to the Y.A.
Anything else? Oh yeah, one more thing ...

Richard Paez accepts offer to become the new head coach for the Venezuelan National Team
In what can only be described as inevitable Paez is back as Venezuela's head coach after a near 7-year tenure that ended in November of 2007. Since then Cesar Farias and Noel Sanvicente both tried but failed to bring the team to relevance without success, as Venezuela once again failed to qualify for the World Cup and had a forgettable performance at the most recent Copa America. Paez is undoubtedly Venezuela's most successful head coach at the moment and it was only a matter of time until he was back at the helm for the team.
After resigning as Peru's head coach following a disappointing performance in Copa America, Paez received offers from Bolivia and Paraguay before ultimately receiving and accepting the offer from the FVF. Paez will now attempt to take his beloved Venezuela to its first ever world cup but the road, as always, will be tough with Venezuela hosting Brazil and Argentina next month in the first games for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. Considering the fact that Paez recently led Dagenham to the FL Championship for the first time in club history, we have to at least give him the benefit of the doubt in his attempt to put Venezuela in the top 5 of CONMEBOL.
