Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Started a career mode with Monaco. Although this career is more or less a test career to iron out some sliders, I still dig what Monaco has going on. They have a nicely sized budget coupled with world class players (Falcao, Moutinho, Rogriguez) and young talents (Kondogbia, Martial, etc).

The main problems are in the last third of the pitch. From the midfield forward is golden. But the back end just doesn't have enough consistency.

Abidal and Carvalho are good players, but their age doesn't justify them starting over Lopez and Ismiat-Martin on a consistent basis.

I've signed 3, 5* x 5* scouts, to keep the youthful influx of talent coming.

I still have around €50,000,000 in the transfer budget and €300,000 in the wages budget that I plan on using up during the January transfer window, as I too, disabled the summer transfer window.

The plan going forward is to bring in a blend of old, quality talents, along with some youthful exuberance.

My targets in January will definitely be Evra and Dani Alves, to bring exprience to the full back. After that, it's a desire.

I want to bring in Praet and maybe Massimo Bruno from Anderlecht.

Basically any young talents who fit into a Pep Guardiola-like passing scheme will do, as I plan on reinventing Monaco in the mould of a team like Barcelona.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Update on Nottingham Forest, season 3

Well, it's confirmed. The Christmas tree 4-5-1 is basically THE formation, as long as the work rates are in order. I've scored a brilliant 16 goals in five games with it outside career mode, while conceding only twice. My setup is as follows:

          GK

          RB Med/High -- RCB Low/High -- LCB Med/High -- LB Med/High

          RM High/Med -- CM Med/High -- LM High/Med

          RAM Med/Med -- LAM Low/Med

          ST High/Med

Zonal defending works best, i.e. don't drag your players out of position to track an opposition player with the ball, but switch to the next nearest man and let everyone retain their shape. This works best with a custom tactic that employs an organised defense and attack. Mine is as follows:

          Build-up Play

          Speed: 5
          Passing: 25
          Organised

          Chance Creation

          Passing: 10
          Crossing: 20
          Shooting: 25
          Organised

          Defence

          Pressure: 30
          Aggression: 50
          Team Width: 50
          Cover

And the team that usually starts for me:

          Forster

          Clyne -- Dier (c) -- Martinez -- Cresswell

          Steven -- Chalobah -- Biabiany

          Mutch -- Oscar

          Traore

Mutch is by far my best player, and I'll not be surprised if he ends up with an overall in the high 80s. He can pass, dribble, run, shoot, jump, head, take set pieces, and makes a decent vice-captain. He's managed 10+ league goals in each of my three seasons, and 18+ overall. And he's done that while still chipping in with 15+ assists in all competitions.

What I like about building a two-per-position squad for this formation is that as long as one of the two central midfielders is defensive and at least one (two?) of the four attacking midfielders is a well-rounded box-to-box player, I can easily field a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 variant. That, and having enough firepower in reserve, would also let me field variants of 4-4-2.

          Competition

I took my 2-1 advantage to Sporting CP's stadium, where a Traore tap-in late in the first half (42') was the only goal in a 1-0 win, putting me 3-1 ahead on aggregate and into the R16 against Liverpool (yikes). Coming up next are league fixtures against Chelsea and Norwich, the two European games against Liverpool, and an FA Cup quarter-final against Everton earned with a 2-0 win over Bolton in the R16.

          Transfer Speculation

With two CAMs on the pitch in a 4-5-1, Oscar is not likely to depart in the summer unless for an absolute monster of a fee (£60 million at least). I need to discard some deadweight, figure out who are my important and squad players, and strengthen accordingly.

My first order of business, come what may, will be to buy Marco Reus for the LM position. I'll then look for a LB and a well-rounded beast of a CM, someone like Dembele or Illaramendi; Chalobah is probably going to go one way or another, and Medel is but a backup player.

It all depends on where I finish in the league and Europe, how much the board give me, and income from player sales.

          Dream Team

          Forster/Butland

          Clyne/Byram -- Dier/Lascelles -- Martinez/Ake -- De Sciglio/Cresswell

          Biabiany/Mackay-Steven -- Illaramendi/Medel -- Reus/Sinclair

          Mutch/Lansbury -- Oscar/Gauld

          Traore/Sanogo/Andrade

Na me to. But, the squads are set going into the year, Dortmund kept lewandowski, Liverpool kept Suarez, PSG retained Silva... So i feel its cheating those teams, lets it play out and see what happens in january, to create more of a unique story, maybe Suarez is on fire like real life and doesnt leave Liverpool?

& also, i dont get how you know who they would sign in real life? Real Madrid or who ever it is gonna get the best players they can afford and want.... If the manager woke up tomorrow and said Messi doesnt look happy in Barca right now, lets make a bid next month, lets offer him an unmatched amount of money, you dont think it'd happen? Cuz it would.... Thats the fun of being a CM, signing players, weather its 100m for bale or buying a bunch of players like spurs did & building you're team...

            imo. of course lol

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

It took 7 seasons, but I finally reached the pinnacle of CM with Leyton Orient by winning all 6 possible cups in a single season.

              Community Shield
              Super Cup
              Capital One Cup
              F.A. Cup
              BPL Cup
              Champions League Cup

              P66 - W49 - D10 - L7
              GF: 144 - GA: 65

I've started season 8 and my transfer budget is over $200M with a wage budget over $1M, but there aren't any expensive players I'd like to buy. The only players I've brought in this season are the Robben regen (I think) from VfL Wolfsburg, and the Iniesta regen (I know for sure) from Barca. My whole squad is stacked with young talent and current superstars in the year 2020.

I've almost exclusively scouted only the USA to build the strength of the national team, which I also manage. I scouted Brazil and Argentina a few times early in my career, but only kept a couple of those players.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Got one more La Liga match til the Winter transfer window in my Real Madrid CM; I am currently sitting in 3rd behind first place Barcelona and Athletico Madrid. Arturo Vidal went down 3 matches ago and will be out til January; So I have been playing Illarrmendi in his spot. I have to say I am really impressed with the young midfielder. He has 2 assists and 2 goals in 4 matches. He plays well with Bale on the right side. I am considering selling Vidal; because before he got injured he was having a hard time fitting into the squad. There are too many offensive weapons already.

Also, I won my last match 4-0 (1 own goal) and was glad to have dominated; because I had played 4 quick games with Manchester City using a 4-1-3-2 and struggled to find offensive consistency. I played lesser competition and only won two matches, lost one and drew one. Winning using the 4-3-3 (false 9) with Real Madrid brought relief that I hadn't suddenly gotten worse at the game. I just need to learn how to properly utilize Manchester City in a 4-1-3-2 because there's no excuse to struggle with players like Silva, Aguero and Nasri.

They're a fun team. Some of the defensive lapses are maddening though.

The good news is the expectations for the club aren't very high or unreasonable. I have to qualify for the Champion's cup and reach the round of 16 in the domestic cup. I think.

Two pretty achievable objectives considering the only supremely talented team in Ligue 1 is PSG. And even they are still a notch or two below Europe's most talented squads.

My hope is to sit near the top of the table heading into the January transfer window, where I want to bring in Alves and Evra, assuming they haven't declined TOO much. If they've gone down by 3 or more, it'll be tough to convince myself to sign them.

I might look at bringing in someone like Torres or David Villa as well, to improve my depth up front.

I did a trial CM with them a couple months ago; I only played a few games with them since I was still trying out sliders. But one thing I did was sign Alex Sandro and Ola John to play LB and RB respectively since Monaco is atrocious on defense. I also signed Kurt Zouma to back-up Carvalho. They have a relatively small wage budget so their transfer budget is not as big as you think. Falcao is a beast and Rodriguez is a very good CAM.

I want to start a new career, I am disappointed with what was playing. I'm a big fan of Milan, my favorite European team, I am considering starting a career with it but trying to be as realistic as possible, as I wanted to see him back in the glory days.

Career mode killer: CPU Spurs sold all their goalkeepers except one. They ended up last in the league since he got injured and only played 13 games.

in the win over Bilbao we suffered a crucial loss, losing Big Benz for 7 months to injury. Was a great match. In the next match the team responded with another victory in the league campaign. this time Di Maria caught the goal keeper out of posistion and knocked in a shot from 25 yards out! In the 90th minute, amazing!!

Real upset we blew a 2-1 halftime lead in champions league to Milan.... The loss was all my fault, horrible subs and 2nd half strategy.... We will bounce back.

Bale & Ronaldo have been amazing. Bale even out doing Ronaldo.
