Dagenham '17-18 Season
October/November Update
League Match 7
Dagenham - Manchester City (0-1)
Kompany 55'
Recap: Officially a losing streak (when counting the loss to Aston Villa in the C.O. Cup) after a dominant performance by us didn't result in any goals while Kompany put one away on a header from a free kick. Tough loss
League Match 8
Dagenham - Tottenham (1-1)
Bale 54'
Elito 69'
Recap: Our captain stopped a scoring drought that had gone for over 270 minutes to stop our losing streak. Again we were the better team on the field but our scoring struggles are affecting us big time.
League Match 9
Nott'm Fores - Dagenham (1-2)
Caseres 23'
Nimely 48'
Majeski 59'
Recap: We finally show signs of being past our scoring drought. When Majewski scored 15 minutes into the 2nd half though it sure felt like we were headed for another let down but we hung on tough to get back on the winning column.
League Match 10
Dagenham - Wigan Athletic (3-1)
Nimely 18'
McLean 25'
Reyna 66'
Nimely 78'
Recap: We're officially back up and running after a solid victory over Wigan, who often give us more trouble than they should. Nimely has really been in great form all season and it's starting to show on the scoreboard.
League Match 11
Sunderland - Dagenham (0-1)
Ngando 60'
Recap: A game that turned out to be tougher than we expected was perhaps the perfect time for Ngando to score his first goal for us. He scored off a header on a cross from the right wing and just like that we're back on a winning streak.
NOV
League Match 12
Swansea City - Dagenham (1-4)
Collins 14'
Collins 16'
Collins 34'
Elito 45'
Donnelly 60'
Recap: In his first game back from injury Collins reminded everyone in the BPL why he's the Dagenham's best striker, netting a hat trick in just a third of the of the game. He set the tone for a convincing victory for the visitors, also assisting on Elito's goal. This would had been a perfect win if not for a inexcusable breakdown on defense that led to Donnelly's goal.
League Match 13
Dagenham - Everton (4-0)
Nimely 9'
Nimely 37'
Ngando 45'
Vilna 80'
Recap: Oh we're rolling now. Back to beat sounding victories to push our winning streak to five, with this one keeping a clean sheet to showcase a complete game on both sides of the field. Collins didn't even have to score on this one. Ngango once again scored on a header but his low stamina keeps giving Vilna, the youngster from Brazil, opportunities to showcase what he's capable off and that he has high potential (but also low stamina).
League Match 14
Cardiff City - Dagenham (0-3)
Elito 45'
Vilna 85'
Reyna 90+'
Recap: Our great form continued in this game although it took us a while to get on the board and even after that we continued to have trouble finishing plays. Vilna and Reyna gave the game a fair score near the end.
League Match 15
Dagenham - West Ham (1-0)
Collins 73'
Recap: The first East London Derby of the season belongs to us after a tough rivalry game. Collins displayed his will to win by streaking towards a cross from the left and jumping higher than two defenders to head the ball into the back of the net. This completes a perfect November for us with 4 wins and no losses while scoring 12 goals and giving up just 1 (again, on a breakdown).
British Premier League Standings
1. Chelsea - 38pts (16 GP)
2. Liverpool - 36pts (16 GP)
3. Dagenham - 34pts
4. Arsenal - 32pts
5. Manchester City - 30pts (16 GP)
...
6. Aston Villa - 29pts (16 GP)
7. Manchester Utd - 26pts (16 GP)
8. Newcastle Utd - 26pts (16 GP)
...
18. QPR - 9pts
19. Hull City - 9pts
20. Wigan Athletic 3 pts
Even after a (league) 2-game losing streak we have positioned ourselves to compete for the league title in the early going. A win in our next game (against QPR) would put us in 2nd place just one point behind of the leader Chelsea, who we'll host in our second game of December. That will be followed by games against Arsenal, Hull City, and a rematch against Wigan Athletic to wrap up the 2017 year. We are doing a lot better than I would had expected in our first season in the BPL and it may be time to start talking to the board about higher objectives than a mid-table finish in order to request some additional funds for the upcoming winter transfer window. The only other significant news here is that Yordy Reyna also missed 3-4 games due to injury and our only reserve CB, Yohan Wachter, is being rumored as wanting out due to being homesick.
(As an aside it's worth noting that I've yet to beat Chelsea with either Dagenham - 1 game last season in the F.A. Cup - or Alcorcon in the two games I played against them in the Champions).
As noted in our previous update our scouts are currently in Colombia, Ireland, and Morocco and there have been a couple of additions to the academy. Here's our youth squad:
- Cristian Alonson (CM, 52-58 OVR, 84-94 POT): 16-year old from Venezuela described as a playmaker. He possesses a lot of talent in spite of his small stature of 5'5". He could be a contributor as soon as next season.
- Nathan Kenny (DEF/MID, 57-69, 79-94)*: 16-year old from Ireland who has our scouts very excited. Projects as a midfielder.
- Sean Foran (???, 57-73, 78-94)*: 15-year old from Ireland still trying to find his niche on the field. The left-footed kid has shown early signs of being a midfielder.
- Davor Alanovic (CB/LB, 52-58, 80-90): 15-year old from Croatia has outstanding potential and mammoth stature at 6'7" and 176lbs. He's all but a lock to be a CB and we'll work really hard to develop him into an excellent defender.
- Mario Diaz (RW/LW, 56-60, 76-82): 17-year old from Mexico with a lot of confidence. Our scouts are trying to convince him that he's better off staying in the academy for a year even though he feels he's a better talent at the moment than some of the names on the roster. We don't disagree, but he would have a tough time cracking the B-team right now. We're excited about him though.
- Faruk Bahamdan (CAM, 42-52, 69-85)*: 15-year old from Morocco who settled into his position early on. He's raw, so he'll need a lot of time in the academy to develop.
- Pablo Escobar (CAM, 46-48, 74-80): 16-year old from Venezuela who needs to remain in the academy for at least a full season. He has recently shown some higher flashes of potential than when previously evaluated.
- Magnus Gerndt (RW, 51-55, 72-78): 16-year old from Sweeden who projects as no more than a role player.
- Cesar Miguel (CDM, 44-46, 72-78)*: 16-year old from Venezuela who needs a good amount of development. Could be a solid role player for us in the future.
- Enric Tinlea (CM, 54-58, 71-75): 17-year old from Romania who isn't likely to spend all season in the academy due to his age, but we'll hope that he does.
Our current roster (* Denotes player graduated from the youth academy):
Now onto some more exciting news ...

2018 World Cup - CONMEBOL QUALIFIERS
Bolivia - Venezuela (1-4)
Campos 4'
A. Gonzalez 38'
Rondon 40'
Aristeguieta 56'
Josmar 85'
Recap: Needing 3 points to stay ahead of lurking Colombia we battled at one of the highest altitude stages of international soccer to take a convincing victory. It took a while, and nerves may have started to creep in, but eventually we settled down to take a HUGE victory given the circumstances. Colombia beat Ecuador to stay right on our tail while Chile was only able to get a draw in Peru and fell to 5th place, only point ahead of Colombia. (We moved up to 28 points along with Argentina).
Venezuela - Paraguay (1-0)
Rondon 90'
FINAL CONMEBOL WC Qualifiers Standings
1. Uruguay - 36pts
2. Brazil - 33pts
3. Venezuela - 31pts
4. Colombia - 29pts
5. Argentina - 28pts
6. Chile - 27pts
7. Ecuador - 24pts
8. Peru - 17pts
9. Paraguay - 15pts
10. Bolivia - 10pts
Chile suffered a miserable late down in the last two games of the qualifiers, earning only 1 point (they lost their finale 1-2 vs Uruguay) to completely miss out on the World Cup. Colombia, on the other hand, finished strong collecting all the remaining 6 points and earning direct qualification to the World Cup in the process. Argentina's improbable loss at Ecuador in their final game means they will have to battle it out against a team from Asia for a spot in the World Cup.
Anyways, that was wrapped up in October. We also had a couple of friendlies in November for which we decided to call the top remaining players for the country who did not regularly take part in the qualifiers roster so that we could evaluate some guys ahead of next summer's World Cup.
Bolivia - Venezuela (0-1)
Perdomo 69'
Recap: We now have back-to-back wins in La Paz thanks to a hard-earned victory by our youngsters. Perdomo fought for a lose ball in the small box to put it at the back of the net after his third attempt shot in a matter of 10 seconds.
Wales - Venezuela (0-1)
Perdomo 18'
Recap: Perdomo, asserting himself as the main striker sub for the World Cup, gave us the victory once again, this time on a header near the small box. He'll need to keep up this form as the team doesn't have a lot of strikers at the moment thanks to the sudden retirement by Marion Rondon.
And THAT is all for now!
