It's a great tactic for anyone in the second division of a league, even if they don't plan on holding onto him for the long-term. Speaking of Millwall, we (Chelsea) might face them in the FA Cup, if they beat Bradford City. It'd be the first Chelsea-Millwall game since '95, and I'm thinking of booking tickets to London to watch the match. Should be a proper time with all the portly old geezers in their finest! Can't wait to see the Guv'nor kick lumps out of their back four.

Damn! I would really like to see that game if Millwall makes it through and gets Chelsea! Especially if it was at The Den since I have already been to Stamford Bridge, Funnily enough to watch another FA Cup derby game or well sort of, both are from London... Chelsea - Brentford was a areally amazing experince thank to the passionate Brentford supporters, to bad Chelsea won that game though....

Are you living in the London Area or would it be a long trip for you?

No offence but I find this idea terrible. It's better like this because we are a community this way and it's easier to follow what everyone does.

Yes, it is funny now but it wasn't funny at all when it was happening. But hey, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, I guess.

The rest is kind of obvious:

        Neuer
Lahm - Luiz???? - Thiago Silva - Ramos
Kroos - Iniesta - Di Maria
        Robben - Messi - Ronaldo

I completely disagree with Luiz, there were at least five better centre backs. I also slightly disagree with Iniesta because he didn't do much this year. James Rodriguez, Schweinsteiger or Modric deserved that place. The rest are fine.

I watch a lot of football. A LOT. Saudi League, K-League, J-League (which needs to be on this game ASAP), Serie A, EPL, Championship, La Liga, Ligue 1, MLS (not a lot, but we're getting there), Bundesliga, Eredivisie (only Ajax/Feyenoord/PSV/Twente/Vitesse), and a few others. Probably get in something like 10-12 full games plus highlights of another 40-50. A lot of the players I sign/scout I come to know of through three ways: 1) in-game news feed; 2) GTN/random browsing of club squads; 3) real-life games/highlights. Only time I use SoFIFA is when I have two very similar players, and that's only to check who'd be better in the long-term. But from my next career onwards, I won't even be using that. I think part of the charm of transfers is getting a few duds, otherwise you know that things are more less going to go to plan if you use SoFIFA to sign a bunch of 80+ potential kids. Plus, I think there are some players in the 70s who are way better than some world-class talents. Give me Buckley over Di Maria/Pedro anyday.

Yeah the Chelsea-Brentford game was pretty nice, amazing fans. We're hosting Millwall at home, I believe. I live in India at the moment but have a base around London i.e. a family home in Loughton. I visit around 3-4 times a year. Where do you live, and who do you support?

I wish I had the opportunity to do that! Over here in the States it's tough to see a lot of football besides the Premier League and Champions League/Europa League, as basically any other league you have to find a stream of and that can be a pain, not to mention the time constraints aha. That said, I totally agree with your philosophy, having some duds is definitely what makes the game both realistic and entertaining. I would love to use just the GTN and my own knowledge, because I do watch as many games as I can and found a lot of my shortlist players from personal knowledge of watching the games, etc, etc... Sofifa really in my eyes just helps to flesh things out because you can only have so many scouts in certain countries, so sofifa just gives a general help in terms of finding some players that may not be spotted just because of the logistics of the game.

Glad to see so many responses with varied strategies and/or similar ideas as myself, really building your squad and seeing how others go about it as well makes career what it is!

That midfield is sorely lacking in balance. Without a natural holding player, Luiz would get exposed so much more than normal (this was our problem until we got Matic, PSG having the same issues whenever Motta doesn't play). If Kroos plays that role and stays back, he'll get too isolated from Iniesta & ADM who tend to push up and laterally. I would prefer this team:

                  Buffon
                  Lahm - Ramos - Godin - Alaba
                  Koke - Matic - Modric
                  Turan - Zlatan - Ronaldo

That team will beat any FIFA/UEFA team of the year since Maldini was last chosen.

as far as I can tell I need to catch up on CM's for the following people:

Falaph, SHoward, tex, jagger, sportsfreak, kenny, keano, chico, simppu, cruzzer, solarios, jamie. (Moose, I didn't forget about you, but as I don't have sound on my computer I'm pretty much useless to you).

Also need to update Alcorcon and Dagenham.

KILLING ME. You guys are killing me.

I agree, the team is too attacking minded and unbalanced but the point of it is to pick the best players in each position, not creating a great and balanced team. I still can't understand what Luiz is doing there. Let's see, he was benched at Chelsea, he lead Brazil's defence when they conceded seven goals in one game and he is better at attacking than at defending. Going purely on last year's performances my team of the year would be like this:

                      Neuer
                      Lahm - Ramos - Hummels - Alaba
James Rodriguez - Modric - Di Maria
                      Robben - Messi - Ronaldo

This team is also very attacking but I think it is a lot better than the real one. Modric would play in the same role as in Madrid at the moment, controlling the midfield in both attack and defence. Di Maria would be running up and down, being important in defence and in attack and James would get a free role in attack behind the three attackers.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

@Moose A couple of thoughts on the more recent episodes.

Voted for Downing as POTY and Cresswell's goal as GOTY, but I guess it's too late. Perfect strike. I knew it when I saw it in the Everton update vid. Good to see that Adrian/Valencia won, though. They were massive for you. But *******, I hate United. And great to see us get a shoutout!

Loved seeing you dive right into the second season. Decent budget, too. We're in similar situations where we find ourselves managing in Europe, so we need a good bit of depth. We're also running similar 4-4-2 diamonds, but I go for my width through my midfielders and crowd the box, rather than playing my strikers through with passes.

Glad to see you bring back Jenks. I'm a big fan of consistency in the back five/six, so good to see that you also wanted to maintain the flow. Shame about Song, but Ox is a massive signing, as is Delph. Delph will get you 6-10 goals a season from CDM, too. A real statement of intent. That's also great money for Zarate, which I expect you to make very good use of. Can't wait for the next episode!

Question I have with everyone seemingly in the transfer market at the same time: Do you guys rely on GTN in game and your own knowledge of players more often, or do you use exterior sites like Sofifa? I know I personally use a combination of the two, using my knowledge and both the GTN and Sofifa to find players and then using the GTN in the game to get better numbers on where player's attributes and value lie at that moment in time.
Thanks! I did think about your success with the Gatman when I went out and got him haha! Hopefully I can dig up the old Gat signal and get him a few goals!

As far as scouting players, I use my own knowledge, combined with outside sites like sofifa and another lesser known one that I find probably even more useful, ultrafifa. That one also shows wages, and I like the search functions better as well. The wages part is a huge factor since I play with some pretty small budgets usually.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited about the players coming over next season. The updates have their pros and cons for me as well. I didn't like feeling restricted on how much I could say, so ultimately I'm happy to switch back to the written style. The graphic updates were pretty cool though in regards to more of a newspaper headline type feel. I might go back and forth and use the graphics on smaller months, or to update on big news like finals, or transfers going forward though.

Hmm, I do agree that it would be easier, but I'm afraid that it would take away from the community feel we have here. It would be a shame to have people spend their time in other threads rather than here. Also, the other thing is that having other threads could upset some people if they feel like their updates aren't getting enough views of comments compared to others.

Ultimately I like this style we have here. It can get cumbersome trying to catch up at times, but you just need to step back a moment and think about how that only means how popular we have all made this thread. I truly am proud of the progress this thread has made from when I came around. There was maybe only about 3 active careers back at that time.

I think Godin was much better than Silva and Hummels, who missed more than half the 13/14 season with injury. Where were you this past year, man? James also didn't do much beyond the WC to merit a spot over Koke. Robben was okay, but Turan was better. There's more to being a good player than scoring/assisting, though Arda did that, too. And I will take Zlatan over Messi anyday. But not one single Atletico Madrid player in that squad? They won La Liga and made the CL final, which they almost won, too! You're just as bad as FIFA & UEFA!

It is just an idea, don't kill me plz
Personally I really dislike this idea. It would get rid of the the community feel and I know I would forget to check someones thread. Also, if everyone has their own thread, this place would be dead

Maybe Hummels did miss a lot of the year but every time he played he was good. Godin was alright but he didn't have almost any big moments where he showed how good he is. Unlike you said James was great last year. He had a very good season at Monaco and he has been very good for Madrid. Where were you this past year, man? Robben was one of the five best players last year and he was better than Turan. Turan is really good, though. And Messi had a better year than Zlatan (who I love as a player).

In my opinion Atletico were an amazing team and not a group of good individuals. If we forget about Costa there wasn't really anyone who was that much better than everyone else in the team.
