Match Summary: Les Grenats found themselves in an unfamiliar position falling behind early in this one. Santamaria dribbled around both of the central defenders inside the box and fired his shot from the left side of the goal inside the near post for an outstanding opener. Tours continued their assault throughout the half, but the scoreline held at just the one going into the second period. Ngbakoto took matters into his own hands at the start of the second half and once he got the ball on the left wing he beat his man and was able to run unmarked into the box to hit a stunning shot into the top right corner. Even after the equalizer though Tours still looked like the better chance missing a couple more chances until Metz got a lucky break. Sao dribbled down the right and used his pace to get around the defense and work towards the goal. He tried to fire back to the near post but his defender got in the way and deflected it back into the box where Agouazi went to clear it but sent it straight into Metanire and saw it deflect back into the goal. Neither side was able to get much going afterwards and the game ended with Metz getting the lucky 3 points.

Match Summary: Metz went back to their dominating ways after a surprise struggle last match. They recorded 56% of the possession and assaulted Lavallois' goal with 16 shots, half of which were on target. Still, they had trouble separating themselves for the majority of the match. The breakthrough didn't come until the 86th minute when Ngbakoto's corner connected with Sao's head for a strong header into the top right corner. Just a few minutes later Ngbakoto sent in another corner this time to the back post and Lejeune headed it back across off the far post and it bounced back to him and he tapped it in.

Match Summary: Not many saw this result coming, but Red Star FC dominated FC Metz in every facet of the game and handed them their first loss of the season under the new manager. Both sides traded chances in the opening half, but it was early in the second half that Sampaio played a cross in and it was mishandled by Metanire leaving it on the doorstep for Chavalerin to tap in. Just minutes later Red Star conceded a foolish penalty in the box allowing Ngbakoto to step up and power and equalizer into the top left. Neither team was able to separate themselves for the remainder and the match went to extra time. Just 2 minutes into the first added period, Chavalerin played a ball in and Palomino cut it off, but it took an unlucky bounce and fell right in front of da Cruz who had run in on the right and he buried the chance to give Red Star the lead. Metz went full out in the attack looking for the equalizer but nothing was going and they fell to an unfamiliar feeling of defeat.

Match Summary: This will go down as a poor result for FC Metz who controlled the entire game only to see some points slip away on a lapse at the end. After a couple of good chances, Ngbakoto got around the defense on the right side of the box and slid the ball across the face of the goal for Ikaunieks to tap in on the back post. Several more chances ensued that should have been converted, including a missed penalty by Metz, and it came back to haunt them in the 88th minute when Amalfitano timed his run well and got the ball open on the left side of the goal and picked out Paulle for the first time hit past the keeper on the near post. Metz couldn't believe they let the lead slip away and the game ended in a disappointing draw.

Gennaro Tutino grabs U.S. Avellino 1912's Player of the Month award for November as the 19-year-old, who is on loan from Napoli, put in quality performances and scored decisive goals throughout the month. In Avellino's TIM Cup Round 3 match against Serie A side Palermo, Tutino displayed a Man of the Match performance to help the Wolves stun the Rosanero and move into the Round of 16. The final two matches of November saw Tutino get the decisive goals in each of Avellino's 1-0 wins over Latina and Novara. The thunderous volley Tutino scored from a corner against Latina is already a contender for Serie B Goal of the Year.

Manager's Thoughts
It was a great month despite suffering our first league loss to Perugia 2-0. The 4-0 win over Cesena was our best showing of the season, and we ground out several 1-0 wins including one in the TIM Cup against Serie A side Palermo. Gennaro Tutino helped us escape with some late goals against Latina and Novara (the Novara winner coming in the 89th minute). The top-3 of the table is still very tight as we lead Pescara by 4 points and Cagliari by 6 points, but we have opened up a pretty sizable 11-point margin on 4th place Spezia for a guaranteed promotion spot.

December is light in the number of matches and quality of competition. Virtus Entella is the highest placing side of our 3 opponents, and they are only in 9th place. We did have a 0-0 draw at Modena earlier in the season, but despite that result, I expect to get all 9 points this month.

Review: Outside of missing a golden opportunity to take a commanding lead in our Euro League group after one round of games, I must say we're doing really well in both competitions so far. We've bounced back from a poor start to the season in the league and are now in the mix for the top spots on the table. Peñaranda continues to be in great form and even though Stojiljković isn't scoring at the same pace his contributions with assists have been big for us. Of last note, we had a competition at GK early on but newcomer Anthony Maisonnial quickly sealed his spot as the starter. After realizing Maisonnial's form isn't likely to drop any time soon, Abdelaziz Demircan has let me know he wants to be transferred. I'll probably list him during the upcoming transfer window while I look for a suitable replacement.

As far as the academy is concerned we have received the second reports from our scouts in Algeria, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia so let's check out how our youth squad has changed:

CB - Emre Karaer (64 OVR, 81-87 POT): 16-year old from Turkey who is Physically Strong and displays excellent aggression (84) to the ball. We're excited about his development and in no rush to promote him until we feel he's ready.
RW - Shafiq Al Shahrani (50 OVR, 72-92)*: 16-year old from Algeria with an attacking mindset. We're hoping for development in his pace (71acc/69spd).
LB - Mahmoud Al Farsi (49 OVR, 71-94)*: 16-year old from Saudi Arabia who's Physically Strong and shows good aggression. Depending on how he continues to grow he might be more of a CB prospect.
CM - Serdar Emir (52 OVR, 70-94)*: 16-year old from Turkey described as a Playmaker and showing good agility (74). This is an early evaluation.
LW - Dragen Rennich (61 OVR, 77-83): This prospect from Croatia just turned 17 years old, growing 7 inches to 5'8" and adding 13 pounds to his frame to top out at 152lbs. He has good acceleration (79) and balance (75).
LW - Javier Fernandez (57 OVR, 77-83): 17-year old from Venezuela with good pace (79 acceleration, 70 speed) that will hopefully continue to grow. Good competition for Niarkhos and Rennich in the academy.
RW - Pavel Župan (57 OVR, 76-82): 17-year old from Serbia with good acceleration (73) and agility (73). He projects as more of a role player in the future.
CAM - Hamzah Al Dalharni (45 OVR, 68-88): 17-year old from Algeria who's very raw but offers enticing potential. We'll have more details on him as we evaluate him further.
LW - Dragutin Puhovski (51 OVR, 71-77): 16-year old from Serbia with good pace (74 speed, 71 acceleration) and balance (72). He's a bit behind in the picking order at this position in the academy at the moment but hopefully he can catch up quickly.
RB - Fabian Lopez (58 OVR, 73-79): 17-year old from Venezuela who needs a lot of development. Doesn't possess the desired pace for the position at this point in time but hopefully he'll develop that. We don't expect him to grow taller than his current 5'11" frame so a move inside won't be an option for him.

Despite this, we didn't let them create clear scoring opportunities so it wasn't until the 80th minute that they broke through to take the lead and before everyone and their momma could think that would be all this game wrote, Otero did this

Been a while since I've been around these parts!

I am without my Xbox One for 45 days or so, but I figured this would be a good time to get back involved and follow along here. I've been playing my Newcastle career mode and tracking some player movement/stats on my own, but I admittedly just didn't have the time to post here. That said, super excited for FIFA 17.

@vrabbit: Do you ever get frustrated having to manage both club and country? I always loved the allure and additional of international management, but I found that it just got in the way and elongated the time it took for my club career mode.

@southernmetalhead: Love your formatting and the fact that you're using a club most of us have probably never heard of!

@texasbum: Two career modes at once? You maniac!

Really like the Sheffield one though. Nice little youth team you're building up too.

Nah it keeps me sane actually. I play too much and can't continue to play if I don't do my updates on here so more games in any given month buys me just a bit more time. Plus I grew up as a big fan of the international teams so I always enjoy it for that alone. It's totally unrealistic but so are so many things about this game

Thanks man! Good to be back posting updates. Adds an extra rush to the gameplay when I'm posting. I skipped the summer transfer window that way I am forced to get to know the squad and make proper transfers. Plus it's a good way to find hidden gems in the squad. Thanks for the read man I'll make sure to comment on your career soon!

Your B team put up another massive performance. That gives them games with 6 and 5 goals respectively. I mentioned it last time, but now it seems even more so that some of your starters should be feeling some pressure about losing their spot.

The B-Team has really surprised me so far. Granted two of the three games have been against the same team, but that doesn't make 14 goals in 3 matches any less fascinating. I really have been impressed by some of these players and as you said they are really making a strong push for the first team. Thanks for the read man!

I second this. I feel like I'm playing too much and falling behind on updates with only club matches. Granted with international matches that means more matches to write about too, but it's still different somehow. It's especially fun if you have youth graduates from the international side you manage and you're trying to get them to become important international players. I think that's perhaps the best part seeing your home grown player in an international shirt - once he deserves the call up of course.

October 2016 - Season 1

6th place vs 7th place battling for a playoff spot but the match ended with both sides sharing points. It was a sad day for Luton Town though, because in the 20th minute the club's top scorer Mackail-Smith went down after losing an aerial battle and didn't get back up. The referee stopped the game, and called for Luton's medical staff to enter the field. Mackail-Smith had to be carried off the pitch by the medical staff and they asked for a substitute. Looking at the bench, the obvious replacement would be the Northern Ireland international McQuoid, but Chavez called the B-Team goal scorer Pigott to warm up instead. The following play caused controversy, because Bristol Rovers did not follow fair play and did not return the ball to Luton. Instead they went forward in attack and while Luton were distracted complaining about it the Pirates took the lead. During the Pirates celebration the Luton players crowded the referee but there was absolutely nothing the ref could do; fair play is not mandatory. Luton played terribly the rest of the match. It was clear that Mackail-Smith's injury left everybody unfocused and unmotivated. Fans were left to wonder if Pigott was the right choice over McQuoid, but the young striker silenced any doubts in the 83rd minute after he placed an amazing header into the bottom corner and equalized the match. Green sent an early cross into the box and Pigott timed his movement perfectly to leave the two center backs behind. Pigott received the cross without a single marker near him, and his finishing was clinical. The B-Team goal scorer continues his amazing form.

Player Injury
Craig Mackail-Smith (ST - 67 OVR 31yrs) was forced to leave the Bristol Rovers match early with a shoulder injury, and it has been confirmed that he will be out for 8 weeks with a Dislocated Shoulder. Truly devastating news for the Hatters.

J. Paint Trophy - Round 2
Luton Town 1 - 0 Chesterfield
LUT: Pigott 63'
LUT: Cuthbert RED CARD 90'
We were unsure if Chavez would choose Pigott to replace Mackail-Smith in the starting lineup or if he would respect McQuoid's hierarchy and have the Northern Irish international start today, but Chavez actually chose Pigott to start most likely due to his great performances with the B-Team. Pigott proved Chavez right once again by scoring in the 63rd minute off of a low cross from Jack Marriott. Luton Town had the entire match under control which makes us wonder what on Earth led the captain Cuthbert to make a hard slide tackle from behind on Chesterfield's Novak. The striker made a one touch pass to his teammate which caused Cuthbert to make an illegal tackle off the ball. It was the final minute, with no danger near goal, so it really is difficult to see why he would lose his head like that. Cuthbert's suspension will apply to the next league match, not the next cup match, however Cuthbert was already going to miss the next match due to being called up to the Scottish national team.

Luton Town 0 - 1 York City
YCI: Penn 22'
Needless to say, Luton Town won a cup match and then lost the following league match this time a surprising defeat against lower rated side York City. Luton played the match without important players like Cuthbert, McCourt, and McQuoid as they were all called up to their national teams. York City's Penn scored the first goal in the 22nd minute and then York City fell back to defend the lead. Luton were unable to equalize and they were defeated, which is a big step back for the team that is supposed to be fighting for the league title.

Cambridge United 0 - 4 Luton Town
LUT: Cuthbert 6' 77' Pigott PEN 20' 37'
CAM: Kennedy RED CARD 19'
Luton Town's international players came back with a bang as they defeated Cambridge United with an astonishing 4-0 scoreline, the most the First Team has ever scored in one match this season. The captain Cuthbert scored the first goal today in merit to his tremendous movement inside the box during a corner to actually sneak in from behind the keeper and jump in front of him to head the ball into the net while the goalkeeper thought it was an easy catch. Luton continued to push forward and were very close to scoring a second goal after McGeehan sent a lobbed through ball into the box with Marriott cutting in but Cambridge's Kennedy slid in to foul Marriott inside the box and earn himself a red card.

Joe Pigott asked for the ball to take the penalty and he netted the ball into the top left corner. To make it 2-0. Kennedy's attempt to deter Luton's second goal was in vain while leaving his teammates vulnerable. Pigott scored his brace in the 37th minute off a low cross in the box, and Cuthbert got a brace as well in the 77th minute off another corner, this time with a power header after losing his marker.

Luton Town (B-Team) 4 - 0 Newport County
LUT: Banton 26' Mpanzu 37' McQuoid 69' 82'
The Luton B-Team came out to face bottom of the table side Newport County managed by the Finland international manager vRabbit. Due to Joe Pigott and Jack Marriot both being promoted to the First Team the B-Team today fielded a different striker partnership, the young Baxton and Northern Ireland international Josh McQuoid. There was also a change in center midfield, with Mpanzu replacing the Welshman Lawless who has also been promoted to the First Team due to Lee's shoulder injury. Despite the changes, the B-Team put in an exceptional performance with Baxton not only making his debut under Chavez as a starter but also scoring his first goal in the 26th minute following an explosive counterattack led by Mpanzu. Eleven minutes later, the English midfielder Mpanzu scored the second goal of the night with an incredible individual play as if we were watching Messi himself in a Luton shirt.

Mpanzu had received the ball in midfield away from the box but he valiantly dribbled forward, juking his way past several defenders until making into the box and finishing his amazing individual play with a goal. At minute 69', McQuoid managed to score during a corner kick that can only be blamed on Newport's poor defending. The defenders had several chances to clear the corner but they let the ball bounce freely inside the box and McQuoid punished them for it. McQuoid would score again in the 82nd minute to finally put Newport to bed. Newport are really struggling this season and it may be due to the vRabbit's double workload, but fans and local journalist alike are very confident with him in charge and firmly believe that things will definitely make a turn for the better for the club soon. This is just the start of a long project with loads of potential.

Leyton Orient 0 - 2 Luton Town
LUT: Marriott 52' Pigott 81'
The best defense in the league versus the best attack in the lead. The least goals received versus the most goals scored. We anticipated this to be a close matchup but we ended up getting a dominant display from Luton while Leyton struggled profusely to get the ball to their strikers. The first half ended 0-0 with Luton dominating possession and keeping the ball in Leyton's third. In the second half Luton looked more desperate to score and just seven minutes into the second half the young striker, currently playing RM, opened the scoring after McGeehan picked up a rebound from Pigott's long shot and passed it over to Marriott to collect an assist. The match remained the same with Luton displaying an attacking dominance and they secured the win in the 81st minute when Leyton sent most of their players up for a corner. The Luton keeper Justham grabbed the ball from the air and then quickly kicked the ball forward looking for the lone man Pigott. Pigott used his strength to beat his marker, the last man, to the ball and during the struggle his marker slipped leaving Pigott with nothing but green between himself and the keeper. Pigott sprinted to the box to engage the keeper 1 on 1 and then calmly placed the ball into the net to the keeper's far post. The best attack in the league defeated the best defense in the league, with Luton Town recording 13 shots on goal (8 on target), while Leyton had 0 shots on goal.

Capital One Cup - Round of 16
Luton Town 1 - 0 Aston Villa
LUT: Pigott 5'
Luton fans have been extremely anxious to see the club face premier league side Aston Villa, which may not be the strongest club but it is a premier league team nonetheless. Villa received quite a shock as Luton actually put together an upset and defeated Villa without having to go to penalties! Joe Pigott scored the only goal of the night in the 5th minute of the match after Villa's goalkeeper committed a terrible mistake. The defenders had passed the ball back to the keeper and instead of sending the ball far up the pitch the keeper tried to pass it to another defender. However the pass was inaccurate and it went straight to Pigott who was right outside of the box! Pigott controlled the ball and then placed it into the top corner of the net nothing the keeper could do at that point.

Aston Villa fought hard for an equalizer and at times we couldn't believe the type of chances they were missing, but they were unable to make a comeback and Luton will now go forward to face Norwich City in the cup quarter finals!

Luton Town (B-Team) 1 - 3 Notts County

We are accustomed to seeing Luton lose after winning a cup match, but not like this. The Luton B-Team, which has given us several high scoring matches before, were completely dominated by a Notts County that simply walked past Luton's center backs in almost every play. The 18 year old goalkeeper King did very little to stop any of Notts' goals, but it's difficult to blame the goalkeeper after seeing such a terrible display of defending from his center backs O'Brien and Rea. In the 35th minute it looked like Luton would be staging a comeback after Smith scored off a corner, but shortly after Notts County scored again and crumbled all of Luton's hopes to come back. The most difficult part to watch was Luton's attempts to attack with McQuoid and Banton creating very little. Both strikers are similar players short and fast, and once the defense figured out how to neutralize them there was very little they were able to do.

Without a doubt, the player of the month is the young striker Joe Pigott. Pigott had been playing really well with the B-Team and was deservedly promoted to the First Team to replace Mackail-Smith due to injury. Many fans were worried about how the team would move forward without such a prolific player like Mackail-Smith, but instead they found a new idol in Joe Pigott. Pigott has been in an extraordinary form all season and now that he was given the opportunity to prove himself he has placed the team on his shoulders and has been one of the best strikers in the league. Many have begun to wonder if perhaps the team and fans alike are placing too much pressure on the 21 year old, and they wonder if all of the new weight on his shoulders could damage his potential.

Selection Crisis
With Joe Pigott in incredible form, and Mackail-Smith expected to return to training next month, it is difficult to see which striker will be starting for Luton next month since Chavez usually plays with only one man up front. Has Pigott earned the starting spot now, or will Mackail-Smith's hierarchy and previous form be enough to have him retake the starting spot? A similar situation has risen between the midfielders Jack Lawless (59 OVR) and Olly Lee (62 OVR). Lawless has been starting due to Lee's injury and Lee is expected to return to training next month, but Lawless has been playing really well in midfield and Luton are in great form.

Manager's Thoughts
I don't know what happened in the 1st half against Virtus Entella, but to go into the break at home down 2-0 was stunning. We really came out firing in the 2nd half to earn the 2-2 draw and probably should have secured all 3 points. The next 2 matches went as planned with 2 wins, but I was not happy that we failed to keep a clean sheet against Modena. We are leaking more goals lately, which needs to stop.

I second this. I feel like I'm playing too much and falling behind on updates with only club matches. Granted with international matches that means more matches to write about too, but it's still different somehow. It's especially fun if you have youth graduates from the international side you manage and you're trying to get them to become important international players. I think that's perhaps the best part seeing your home grown player in an international shirt - once he deserves the call up of course.

Just to add to this, sometimes (for a friendly) I'll call in a bunch of guys that aren't part of my regular roster so I can get a good look at them and sometimes that allows me to bring in an academy graduate

Harder returned the favor a few minutes later after beating the defense down the right side and sending a low ball across for Abraham to knock in on the back post.

Ritchie took advantage of the high line and Gosling played him through and he only had the keeper to beat as he calmly finished it for the lead. Pritchard led the counter and he played Townsend on the left and he collected the ball and fired it to the far post for the equalizer. The ball ping ponged around in the box until Fraser was able to head it into the middle where Gosling as unmarked and he easily finished it for the last minute winner.

Match Summary: It looked like the bad form was going to continue when Ba sent a cross in and found Guirassy completely unmarked on the near post for the first time hit into the back of the net. They almost added a second but a trio of missed chances left them still sitting at just the one. Then Ngbakoto took the ball all the way to the end line cut it towards the goal to hit his shot off the far post and in from an impossible angle. Most missed chances for Auxerre followed to start he second half, and Metz added one of their own with Mayi smashing a shot off the crossbar. Luck went in the away side's favor after Ikaunieks saw his shot saved out to the left and Ngbakoto hit the rebound back at the keeper but he wasn't able to handle it and it went into his goal for an own goal. They then put the game away with Candieas sending in a low cross from the left where Reis was waiting to tap it in from in front of goal.

Match Summary: The match opened up which each side trading some promising chances. Then in the 34th minute the Metz captain, Milan, made what looked like a great tackle. The referee didn't agree though and not only whistled the foul, but showed Milan a straight red to the disbelief of the player and the manager who was enraged at the decision. The away side adjusted to being down a man and moved Reis back from the midfield and into the back line. After a scoreless first half Metz pushed the ball forward with Gomes getting around the left side of the defense on an overlap and he sent a low ball in that was pushed out by the keeper right to Candeias who pounced on the chance and buried it for the lead. The away side weathered out the rest of the match down a man to earn the win and take all 3 points away despite losing their captain early on.

Match Summary: With their captain suspended, Metz didn't miss a beat striking almost out of the gate. Candeias used some nice footwork to get around his man on the left side of the goal and attacked towards the keeper drawing him out and then playing the ball to Ikaunieks waiting in the middle for the first time hit towards the far post. Metz added a few more chances as the match went on, including a stunning free kick attempt from Ikaunieks from 38 yards out that went just wide of the post. There wasn't much action until in the 89th minute with some great pressure Metz forced a back pass to the keeper that took a hop and bounced off the keeper's shin and Mayi was there to jump on the ball and fire it past the keeper before he could react.

Match Summary: This was an exciting one with both sides going back and forth attacking each other's goals but unable to beat the keepers. Toulouse looked like they had an edge for most of the match, getting better chances and they should have at least had one if not more. In the end it came down to some great ball movement and poor positioning by the keeper that gave Metz the win. Santos played the ball to Diallo at the top of the box and he laid it off for Gomes running in on the left and he took advantage of the keeper being just a step off his near post and blasted a shot that hit off the keeper and squeezed inside the near post for the deciding goal.

Match Summary: Thebaux came up with a couple big saves to start the match as Metz went on the attack early and often. He held strong until just before the half the referee pointed to the spot on a poorly timed slide and Sao painted the upper left corner and Thebaux never stood a chance. Just a few minutes after coming back on after the half Candeias sent in a corner and the keeper misjudged the ball and Palomino was able to head it past him to double the lead. Once again it only took minutes to add another when Sao was taken down sprinting into the right side of the box and he placed the penalty into the top right corner this time just past the reach of the diving keeper. Just 2 minutes later Parics FC was able to pull once back when Poujol played the ball to Kone and he used his first touch to pull it back around the defender and the fire the ball inside the near post. Paris FC saw out the remainder of the chances with Didillon coming up with a huge save but ultimately saw another one go in just before the half when his defender gave the ball away inside his own box and Pellenard buried the chance without hesitation to bring the score within one. Still, it was too little too late and Metz held on for the win.

Match Summary: Valenciennes were completely outmatched in this one, managing only 45% possession and a measly 2 shots, none of which were on goal. Sao got it started early when he received the ball from Reis and used his pace and quick touch to get through two defenders on the left side of the goal and fire his shot back across the goal off the right post and in. The momentum continued as Gomes led the counter on the left side and pushed it ahead to Candeias running into the box and he took one touch back to his right and curled the ball perfectly around his defender and the keeper and into the top right corner. The match went into a lull as Metz protected their lead and it wasn't until the last few minutes when some subs for fresh legs sparked the action back up. Metanire did well to send Grange through on the right side of the box and he kept his shot low and across to the bottom left corner. Another quick counter started with Doukoure on the right and he played it to Grange in the middle who hit it first time to the left for Honorat to strike it past the keeper and inside the far post for a great goal on his debut for his new club.
