Re: How's Your 'Become A Legend' Mode Going?
I just completed my sixth season in my BAL. I made myself a Dutch striker in hopes that I could eventually turn into the player that the Netherlands would need in order to capture some international honors. I started my career with the biggest club in the country, Ajax.
2010-2011
This season started off as I expected. I played a lot in training matches and would get subbed on in the league matches. Our top striker got injured early on in the season which gave me the opportunity I needed. I was inserted into the starting lineup and never looked back.
League: 34 appearances, 31 goals, 4 assists
KNVB Cup: 4 appearances, 7 goals, 1 assist
Europa: 9 appearances, 5 goals, 1 assist
Champions League: 8 appearances, 2 goals
Our performances in the Champions League were awful. We got through the qualifying round but were knocked out at the group stage. We rebounded nicely to advance to the final of the Europa League where we lost to Fiorentina in the final. We won the league and cup double, with me being named player of the tournament.
2011-2012
Our main focus for this year was getting out of our Champions League group, which we did. I also got my first call-up to the national team towards the middle of the season.
League: 34 appearances, 30 goals, 9 assists
KNVB Cup: 3 appearances, 1 goal
Champions League: 10 appearances, 10 goals, 2 assists
International: 4 appearances, 1 goal
We won the league again (no one else came close) but we lost in the semifinals of the KNVB Cup. We were knocked out of the Champions League in the quarterfinals. I was also named to the Netherlands' European Championship squad, which was a huge accomplishment. It provided me with the stage to showcase my ability to the world.
European Championships: 6 appearances, 6 goals
We barely escaped our group on goal differential, but rode that wave all the way to the final where we eventually fell to Italy.
2012-2013
During the summer, I was getting worried because no teams had made any offers, nor had Ajax offered me a contract extension. After the Euros, I was informed that I had been deemed surplus to Ajax and they were letting me go. I agreed to a four-year deal worth £600,000 annually with French club, Lille. My arrival didn't get off to a good start. I had played centrally the last two years at Ajax but quickly learned that Lille planned to play me out on the wing.
League: 36 appearances, 30 goals, 10 assists
Coupe de France: 2 appearances, 2 assists
Europa: 13 appearances, 11 goals, 1 assist
International: 6 appearances, 4 goals, 2 assists
More European heartbreak as we were knocked out of the Europa League at the quarterfinal stage. We also finished 4th in the league, missing out on Champions League play. However, there was quite a bit of good news. I was awarded the Ballon d'Or as the Player of the Year. I was surprised as I didn't think I had done anything to really deserve it, but I am assuming that my performance in the European Championship had a lot to do with it. This also marks the first time in my career that my club went trophyless.
World Cup Qualifying: 6 appearances, 2 goals
The less that is said about our qualifiers, the better. The team never gelled and we finished at the bottom of our group, failing to qualify for the World Cup.
