    Re: PES 2010 Console Impressions

    Re: PES 2010 Console Impressions

Bought PES 2010 last night and played 3 matches in master league. So far, I am extremely unimpressed.

I've been playing on the default difficulty level (Professional?) using Napoli and the game has been mind-blowingly easy so far. I have played 3 games and had 4 shots TOTAL against me (even less on target) through 3 games. One of those games was against Juventus who had 2 shots against me compared to 15+ from me. The other two were against Genoa and Livorno - I don't follow Serie A that much so I'm not sure what the strengths of these teams are but they sucked in PES.

PES has really upgraded the graphics and player models which look fantastic. The pitches also look really really good. UNFORTUNATELY they still have the same awful stick-up-the-butt animations that they had last year, including that stupid "sliding" shot animation if a player is getting challenged from behind. Comparatively, FIFA has mediocre graphics and player models and numerous kit problems but when you are playing in wide view the animations and the variety of animations is absolutely fantastic. And animations, NOT graphics, influence the gameplay.

I still see keepers punching shots back into traffic WAY too often and punching/deflecting shots that they really should be keeping. I've scored 7 goals in my first three games and about half of them have come from a long range shot being punched right back to one of my strikers for an open net goal.

Defensive AI from the CPU is AWFUL. Numerous people have mentioned it already but the defensive line seems quite content to let you run at them, backing up until the penalty spot before they begin to close you down. This makes it exceedingly easy to find space for long-range shots. There is NO defensive cover from midfield and your strikers and AMCs usually have tons of space to operate as they like in the gap between midfield and defense. I was able to run COMPLETELY unchallenged dwon the flanks with either of my two wingbacks and cross into the box with defenders running alongside me but not tackling. The CPU still plays a completely one-dimensional game with short passing along the carpet and I don't think I saw a SINGLE long ball in my three games aside from a goal kick or a cross.

Maybe some of this will be improved once I switch to a harder difficulty but so far it's been a major disappointment.

It's funny but PES and FIFA have finally switched places this year, in my mind. FIFA is the game with slight sub-par graphics but fantastic gameplay and realistic team play in different leagues while PES is the game with the fancy graphics but sticky "on-rails" gameplay and huge gaps between the "lines" of a teams formation that result in counter-attacking, dribble-based BORING gameplay.

Default difficulty is just to get you used to the game similar to FIFA which at default is way to easy. Once you move up if you don't play sound defense and are not creative with your attacks you will get trampled.

Is anybody here find crossing to be to easy? I will be jocking down the line with two defenders hanging all over me and I swear I pull off a perfect cross 7 out of 10 times.

Amazing. I've seen the CPU long pass on me alot, especially across the field to switch sides.

Say what you want, but I love the organic feel of this game. I can't help myself.

Sometimes, I swear we are all playing a different game. Maybe the way we play the game has something to do with it?

For the guy that mentioned the CPU never runs on you, he should have seen what Theo Walcott did to my poor Sunderland LB, multiple times.

The Regular (default) level is pretty easy for a regular sports gamer. Professional definitely picks up the skill level and then I think Master League games with fatigue and random condition all add to the difficulty factor.

Ha no not all manual settings.I use semi passing, manual through balls and shooting, and I use assisted for lob passing and crossing.I do believe though that you shouldn't have to have all manual controls for it to have an actual challenging game,it should be that way with everything assisted.

So my order shipped from sendit.com on the 6th so hopefully it will arrive here at the end of this week or the beginning of next week,by the way for anyone that ordered from sendit how did you track your orders if at all?I feel like a 6 year old waiting for Christmas to come.I picked up Modern Warfare 2 last night though so that will keep me busy.

I keep hearing way different opinions on the difficulty level of this game.I'm getting a little worried it will be too easy,I would much rather have it too hard though.I would even welcome Ghouls and Ghosts old school Nintendo hard but I don't think that will be the case.

                Re: PES 2010 Console Impressions

Yeah regular difficulty may as well be labelled 'Rookie' in PES. If your any good at football games at all then you need to play on at least Professional.

But I hear your pain mdbussen. I was shocked when I first played PES this year and promptly won 5-0 on regular difficulty.

                  Same here.

This game is terrific after my limited time with it so far. Had a great game against Russia ( I was Slovenia) and felt the pressue big time as I was holding onto my one goal lead at the end of the game. Russia must have had 10 shots on goal the final couple of minutes. And I even saw Pavyluchenko get booked for diving, that cheating prick!!!!

It will be hard for me to remove this game from my PS3, especially once I load up my option file.

I have been successfully fixing the stiffness of player animations and redoing player appearances as well as working on the game speed and overall gameplay. Due to the nature of the edit I plan on working on both ps3 and 360. Only will fully edit all international team along with kits and then redoing the champions league only. But it'll be a beatiful edit. Its a completely different game since I've edited it

                            Tomba,

Do you have the UK version PS3? If so, can you provide your edits? I'm using the UK PS3 Winning Eleven Option File. Can your edits work with that file? I'd love to see what you have done.....

                              Re: PES 2010 Console Impressions

I love this game but something very alarming is going on. After playing and improving, I am starting to find that the hardest difficulty Top Player is not very challenging. I just beat Spain with Argentina and I was hoping for an epic affair but was dissapointed. I love how the AI plays but at times it's too easy to break down their D as well as stealing the ball from them. Another problem I see is that when playing the champions league tournament, when I set acc. fatigue on by the elimination stage I was playing against back ups. Obviously this is due to the fact that the comp was leaving in their players at the early stages only to remove them from the line up later on. I was hoping for atleast a bit of balance where some starts would be out for during the easier games, but unfortunately that was not the case which ruined the tournement for me. Thankfully, we have the option to turn the acc. fatigue off because if that was not the case the tournament would be ruined for me.

Is there a higher difficulty to unlock because soon I can see this game as being boring to me due to its ease on the top player level.

Some people are thinking the Top Player and Professional mode are reversed. Also don't forget a lot of people beat Argentina this year, including Bolivia.
