Re: The reason why defenders back off
First the slider that the original poster was referring to, is in the player attributes if you go to edit a player the response field says one thing in the UK version and another in the US version like he said before. Personally I have both and I don't see a noticeable difference in gameplay. However, I must add that the CPU seems to play defense against me as well, is it perfect and do they drop off more than they should sometimes, probably, but the more I play I see it less and less, in fact I go through many games where I don't get a lot of solid opportunities, but I am playing as Sunderland on Professional in the Master League and Darren Bent is hurt, so I don't have enough speed to scare anyone.
So, if you are looking for an answer for a slider to make the CPU play defense the way you would like that doesn't exist. You could edit every single teams Team Style and maybe that would help, but I don't know.Comment

Re: The reason why defenders back off
For those that can, i would strongly advise you to download the we2010 demo on the Japanese PSN(google how to set up a japanese account, it's easy) and see the difference in gameplay between WE and PES. I did this last night and played about 10 games. The difference to me anyway is night and day.
The defenders on WE hold their ground and make the tackle some 35-40yds from goal and do not back up to their penalty box before engaging you.
The response times of players is also greatly improved and you do not have that 2 or 3 touches that a player seemingly has to do every time in PES.
And the biggest one of all......the Refs! Believe it or not they actually call fouls. In my very first match i drove into the box, was hauled down and guess what.....yes i was given a pen!!!
The goalies aren't much better though but hey for me anyway those 3 things above make WE the far more enjoyable game.
Definitely picking it up.Comment

Re: The reason why defenders back off
is WE the same game as PES only the japanese version or is that a different game altogether?Comment

I bought PES first day but after playing the WE demo i just had to bite the bullet and pick it up.
I will post my full game impressions in the coming weeks.Comment

Re: The reason why defenders back off
jr, i thnk you're right about the defenders. I have been trying all editing that I can possibly think of (editing stats) and to no avail in removing the defenders backing off.
Editing aggression is the best I had seen, but there are still moments when defenders just stand still. It's a bit ridiculous and opens up the gameplay a bit too much.Comment

Honestly out of the all the problems with this game (refs, goalies etc) this is the one that annoys me the most.Last edited by jr86; 11-19-2009, 06:07 PM.Comment

Re: The reason why defenders back off
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I can't generate an attack through the middle, I have to go to the sides to have any chance, and they attack me out there to. I don't find it any different than last years in this regard, in fact I think it is a little too unrealistically hard. I play on "professional" level.
I don't doubt your observations, I am puzzled why I am not seeing this yet you and others are? I play the PS3 version.Comment

Re: The reason why defenders back off
I don't believe top player and professional are switched.I guess all you other conspiracy theorists might believe otherwise.I'd like to hear this from an official Konami person then I'll believe it not just some random dude in a forum ya know?"May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face. LOL I didn't mean to offend anyone with my comment, don't take it personal. It is odd how defenders back off so much though.I just don't see how no one noticed this when they were testing it."May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face. Re: The reason why defenders back off
i think its a combination of the response rating and the pressing slider
i only have the game 3 days so i am no expert but i think i noticed something
i gave a team 70 pressing and the back 4 especially the CB's played aggressive and cut passes and attackers out earlier, however the offensive players chased me all over the pitch
so i lowered the offensive players response they played to the mid field and didnt clip me or chase all game
i think the pressing directly control the response rating because when 70+ they cut out and tackle everything i cant say it worked 100% of the time but i was not able to run 50M untouched
also i believe some Defensive MF have too high OFFensive ratings they join attacks way too often and leave the back exposed to 1 pass from a run on goalNOW PLAYING: NBA Live, madden 11,12, battlefield v, F1 2020 and injustice 2 and COD:MW
