Had to do with effectiveness of players' onfield performance as it relates to their default roles. But I still think Matt was on to something. It's actually surprising and a bit puzzling how many players are playing out of position in PES. If you sift through the teams in the default roster, you'll find many CBs playing as MFs, MFs as FWs, etc. The hit these players take ratings-wise for playing out of their prime position is quite large in some cases. I spent probably two weeks going through every team last year, making sure every team's assigned player roles made sense and were optimized to the max.

Thanks man. It was quickly dismissed though because I felt it was a bit more of a placebo, despite having some very different games after changing each individual team's player roles.
