    upgrade question

hey guys, long time player of pes wondering about differences from 12 to 13.

sorry for the long build up, but i have seen guys get reamed for asking questions on this site when they simply ask if a game is hard.

i am not a hard core soccer fan but love soccer games. played most years for pes, played a ton of 10 until last summer, skipped 11 but haven recently started 12. played fifa 12 for the first fifa game since 02 or 03 recently, but could not get over the fact there were no penalties called.

ok, i am wondering if i am going to be forever frustrated with the passing in 12. i played the first season mostly on the default difficulty but moved to professional late in the season after i got the hang of the game. was promoted to barclays premiere and have a team that will be at the bottom of the league but good enough not to be regulated.

when playing this game, it seems that the cpu can make any pass it wants most of the time. my guys will be there but the cpu can do almost anything. it reminds me of the passing savants of fifa 12. i dont mind losing but want to lose right.

in my last game i tried to clear a ball that was pinballed (i really hate this part of 12) around a bunch of guys, squirted out to a cpu guy who slid and passed it past my guy who was sliding while trying to guard him. it threaded two of my defenders to the guy who dove behind them and headed the ball past my goalie.

there have been several of these type goals ever since i moved to professional.

it this always going to happen? there are so many times, the ball is perfectly passed on a 50/50 ball it borders on ridiculous. yet, at the same time, i can play good defense and they make a horrible pass or it goes wildly out of bounds.

i will be grateful for any help. should i upgrade to 13 or are these issues in 13 also?

Tough call. The price of PES 2013 is very attractive right now. PES 2014 comes out in about 5 months or so so it really depends if you can wait or not. I thought 2013 was a solid game, only issue I had with gameplay was the overpowered through balls and the goalies being crap.

I do not regret my purchase of 2013. I tried 2012 for an extended period of time on PC and really did enjoy it and I picked up FIFA 12 as a desperation purchase when i couldn't find 2013 anywhere. I love the game but I'm finding out that more conservative defense is the key. Honestly, i just really really suck at this game and I frequently get stomped on pro, conceding 4-6 (or more) goals constantly.

Keep in mind that I play 30min halves so it's a lot of time for me to mess up.

Last night I scored 2 goals in a single game and I literally celebrated. I still notice some of the things that you say, like the CPU has this uncanny ability to pull a 3 shot flurry and I never seem to be able to even get a single shot off most times. I think me sucking has a lot to do with it.

I also notice that if I go in for a tackle and their guy so much as stumbles, i get called for a foul and frequently booked. They seem to be able to flip my guys clean over without being called. I'm not sure if this is situational but I'm tightening up my defense.

I think in a few weeks I will be able to post a beginner to not so beginner type thread.

The full manual passing is great. When I'm doing it right I love it. When i do it wrong, at least i know i messed up.

The super-cancel helps a lot with the feeling of no control of my player, especially on opposing goal kicks or free kicks deep in their zone, though i feel like I don't have very fine control over the player (stop or dead run so to speak). Again this can be a case of me being not very good.

I can tell you though, on pro difficulty, the CPU makes you pay for every mistake. Either with a scary moment or a goal against (usually after said scary moment).

This game is very frustrating. I am starting to compare it to NHL2k10. It plays a mean game of foot, and the controls for me are the biggest barrier (for different reasons from 2k10 though). Now that I'm starting to get the controls though, I'm starting to get rewarded with much better games.

I think I will slow the game down to -2 since I play such long halves though.

Two very good reasons to avoid PES 2013 at this point. And to hold off on purchasing 2014 until its clear they fixed those issues, because they absolutely ruin the game. Matt10's gameplay tweaks/edits help greatly for sure though.
