May be best to avoid the DEMO if you own FIFA...

Have really enjoyed FIFA up until now..........but, after playing half a dozen games of the PES DEMO, it just destroyed my enjoyment of FIFA.

The PES AI is so, so much better. Building up, plays possession football when ahead, teams are different...........argh. It just killed FIFA 15 for me.

I really didn't want to buy two football games this year........

Guess I will though. Tried playing FIFA 15 after the PES demo and it hit me like a truck how 'limited' its AI is...

Kind of wish I'd never tried the PES 15 demo.

Well, if it makes you feel better we´re kind of on the same boat here. Now Fifa its not that bad. I ended up buying PES pc version because even being good, it´s not good enough for 69$, no way. Fifa has a way more complete package worth the money.

Also, PES plays great in build up, but believe me, its going to disapoint you a little after some time. Its just better then previous editions but it still has to make some things right. For instance, one on ones have no challenge at all, through balls are hugely overpowered, and GK´s need more work for their reactions. Its not gamebreaking, but noticeable you know? Same as Fifa when you start noticing the little details that tear the inicial awesomeness, and then these anoyances start being repetitive over time.

Its a pretty solid game, but the "king is back" praising that started over internet forums is nonsense to me. Too bad the only way to see it is actually playing the full version for a good amount of time. Now, don´t get me wrong. If you can own both, do it. I find myself playing Fifa but then, once a while I fire up PES and have some fun with it. Just saying, Fifa keeps giving me the most complete fun in overall.

Ultimately, I want the CPU teams to olay differently each game...and they do in PES. Thus, I am switching.

I mainly play basketball games, so I have been putting FIFA in once or twice a week for a game and enjoying it. Last week though I was sick and stuck at home. I played almost all afternoon and it hit me lthat the AI for CPU teams in FIFA is identical. I agree with this:

      http://www.operationsports.com/featu...nting-mystery/

No game will ever be perfect, but at least PES offeres a new challenge each time.

Similarly NBA 2K is not perfect, but each CPU AI team is actually different.

I made a bad mistake buying NBA Live and the cpu AI teams in that game are also identical EA Sports seems incapable of diferentiating CPU teams in any sports game unfortunately...

Fifa has been like this since the dawn of time and it pretty much why I have stayed away from them for a while now after realizing it won't change because it will alienate it's core fan base. Any who, don't want to turn this into a Fifa vs. PES but I hope you eventually give PES 2015 a try this year, it is truly special IMO.

I have in PC, just because it is cheaper. Demo on X1 doesn´t let us test it properly. How the hell I can test gameplay only in regular or Superstar?

Anyway, bought on PC just to see if actually game grows on me. I do enjoy the gameplay and AI, best of it. But somethings still gives me doubts, such as GK´s sometimes. Most of the time gameplay is absolutely amazing, but now and then also gives me that "meh" feeling. Some goals feel cheap, because of GK´s and overpowered through ball.

Quite enjoying it, but not enough to spend 60$ yet.

I have the PC version of FIFA 15 and with gameplay mods it plays an excellent and fun game of sim football. Love PES 2015 as well, got it today after playing the demo. Two great games, I switch back and forth between them and couldn't be happier.

When you say "SIM", I am yet to see the CPU pass backwards at all / no build up play...

Have mods fixed that on the PC?

I didn't mind when I was playing just EPL matches, but even Barcelona never pass the ball backwards / build up.

About buildup, Fifa is more direct, but if you defend properly, CPU will play diferently. Too bad people just don´t believe this. I´ve had a ton of matches where CPU passes the ball back, when in pressure, or when it doesn´t have another option.

Guess what, people started moaning about Fifa because all teams can pass the ball like Barcelona. hmmm, PES is doing the same thing, but in a even more acurate way. Sometimes its really impossible to get the ball. I know you have to sit back sometimes, and its real. But I can see the CPU sometimes keeping possession in ways it shouldn´t. Also, mentality seems broken sometimes. I´ve had a couple matches where CPU was down 1-0 and kept playing possession back in the defense, no long balls, no rush looking for the equalizer. Its wonderfull watching each team playing diferent, but I believe sometimes CPU mentality doesn´t kick in acording to the situation, and I can see already lots of people complaining this and other stuff in a couple weeks. Just give it some time.

Game is very promising, but it aint there yet.

Not sure what you're talking about, but the AI in FIFA 15 does not pass the ball back like in PES 15. I've seen countless times when I'm applying pressure on their own end, and instead of the lb playing the ball to open cb, they blast the ball out of bounds.

The AI in PES 15 is much better then what FIFA 15 has.

It's seems like in Fifa, on the rare occasion, that the cpu actually passes the ball back, it's one of those no look glitch passes where they hit it with full power with no windup.

So I guess, yes, the cpu does make a pass back here or there in fifa, but nothing feels realistic about it; the cpu is simply making sure they don't lose the ball when they should... In PES, the cpu passes the ball back often, and realistically. The two are not comparable in this regard.

Re: May be best to avoid the DEMO if you own FIFA...

Yes and that´s what I wanted to say. Fifa does pass back now and then, and even its not in a realistic way, it does. It also changes ways of attacking through a match, when the normal direct dribling approach doesn´t work.

Like I also said earlier, AI in PES is far superior, that´s what makes this game amazing. But I believe its a bit overpowered. We should have moments were you can press the CPU and make them do mistakes. CPU mistakes in PES are quite rare. First touch control, specially by CPU is also way overpowered, even PES 5 had it better. CPU, on lower teams specially, shouldn´t be able to trap every single ball to their feet, no matter what speed the pass has. If they had do that properly, then this game would be out of this world.

Despite its realistic and quite enjoyable watching CPU passing the ball around, sometimes it gets annoying to feel helpless against it, specially because even weak teams can get through the hole match playing in deep defense, without loosing the ball. Not realistic when CPU is loosing and should be looking for a goal.

This is a huge step up from Konami but they need to fine tune these aspects. They are closer then ever to make the perfect game. Its even all patchable. With a bit of work they can improve this in a couple months. Don´t know if they really want to though.

You know, PES has been officially released for less than a week.

Considering this, I don't think anyone is in a position to question Konami's ambition with future improvements. From what I heard, PES 2014 was improved upon quite a bit with subsequent patches. As a long-time Fifa player, this actually excites me as Fifa stands to fall even further behind in gameplay should Konami tweak anything; I would love for EA to have to actually improve upon things for next year.

This is correct. However, FIFA still needs serious help in that regard, much moreso than PES and which is the one of the more obvious differences between the two games this year. The PC version of FIFA allows you to globally set players' attack workrates to low, defend workrates to high, attack direction to neutral and defend direction to backwards, edit formation values to move player positioning further back, edit player behaviour programming code values, and so forth. All of which helps adjust the manner in which the CPU attacks (and defends). There is so much that can be done to improve FIFA via such edits. In FIFA 13 for example, I fixed the lack of foul problem to such an extent that I actually had to cut back, the CPU was typically getting called for 20-25 fouls and 6-8 cards a game. Most everything that can make FIFA play a pretty decent sim football experience is in the game, it just needs some tweaking.

Yep, Fifa needs some tweaking for sure.
About buildup, there´s nothing else to do. They would have to massively change the game code. But in other details they could improve it and make it a hell better. Its an awesome game, visually and gameplay wise.

But now comes PES, with this patient and sometimes provocative buildup by the CPU, and leaves Fifa ashamed in that department.

Also, as much as I enjoy playing Fifa for what it is, I got totally destroyed by the bugs in Manager Mode, some of them wich kill the entire purpose of that mode. Like being fired right after you move to another club. Its a wonderfull game once you know what to expect from it gameplay wise.

Funny thing, I bought a console almost just because of this year´s Fifa. I was so surprised for the PC version, despite my low performance laptop, that I had to play the game as it should. Of course after sometime, game is not that awesome anymore, though still very enjoyable. Love the presentation and those replays wich totally kill PES ones.

In the other hand, I tried PES demo on the first day and literally hated gameplay. But I got back to it, and noticed great stuf in the midfield, in player animations acording to the situation etc. But still hated it. But I kept going back once a while to try to feell what people were talking so much about. I must say it did grow slowly, and despite some flaws, I got it for PC. Played a while already and started a Master League, but after going again in the X1 version, damn it plays so nice and better looking.

**** probably I´ll be buying it soon. Scoring goals is kinda easy but the dificulty of creating a chance to a goal is unbeatable! And its like we know what we have to do to create a chance, but we never know if its going to work every time we try.

Also, key for this year: PACE. The pace of the game is fu%$ing spot on. finally there´s a soccer game without frenetic action all the way.

Fifa15 has the same problem Fifa has always had. It's generic. Everything about it feels generic. All the players feel the same and all the teams play the same way.
