    PES 2017 tricks and trips

So the Impressions thread has basically turned into a thread about fixing the tactics, which is great and really helps the gameplay.

So I thought we could use a thread for people to ask tips or tricks about the actual gameplay.

If we could avoid OF questions that would be great since there are threads about that already. Keeping this thread to just gameplay or ML questions would help clean the clutter.

I'll start, what is the best way to avoid being dispossessed? Not trying to get past the defender but just shielding the ball and turning your back to him?

This article may be helpful to some:

Joining the dark side! How to make the switch and play for the opposition… (If you haven’t heard, PES 2017 borders on the extraordinary.) Professional games guide writer James Price provides assistance for anyone making the jump…

I have played FIFA the past few years. I am loving PES this year, but I stink at it. I think it's because I am playing it like I play FIFA. I am getting few scoring opportunities other than going from distance. I think I am just trying to dribble by too many defenders and not making good, smart passes or using space wisely. I am also playing poor defense against the long ball offenses. (Could be that I am starting with the default, fictional master league roster as well). I read through the article and will implement some of their suggestions.

The biggest tip I ever got going from Fifa to PES was to get out of the habit of sprinting everywhere. Only use sprint to get into available space, not to try and create it. That's especially true this year as the AI gets a speed buff the second you hit sprint.

Also, the stamina drain from sprinting is more profound in PES as well as the effect that stamina drain has. Tired players in PES are damn near useless. So much so that your/the CPU subs actually have an effect that you can literally see. An average fresh player is going to look like a legend next to a tired superstar in PES.

Fifa is a fun videogame, but a lot of the under the hood depth in PES just doesn't exist in Fifa. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just different.

I am going to try to sprint less. I think that I am not thinking and just going hell bent on getting a goal. All I did in FIFA was sprint all day.

I like FIFA. FIFA 16 was the most fun I had with a sports game last year, and Soccer/Futbol is not a sport I watch alot. PES seems to strive to be the most authentic and since they fixed goalies and fouls, it was my choice this year. I was thinking about getting both, but I could see me falling back into "bad habits" if I start playing FIFA.

I noticed that when I sub in players, I could see immediately that they were moving quicker than the better starters. I am going to keep a talented striker on the bench for matches that we are down and need some energy upfront off the bench.

I really love this game. NBA2k17 has gotten very little run because I keep gravitating towards PES!

Re: PES 2017 tricks and trips

I don´t know about protecting the ball, but usually I avoid direct confrontation with a CPU defender. I try to use close drible as much as possible, like when I´m runing with ball, I immediatly stop sprinting when closed down, and change direction. This makes it very hard to the CPU to get the ball, and even get a foul, specially later on the maches, where the CPU is trying harder to get the ball.

This "close" drible (wich is just walking around with the ball) is very nice to see, just like you can actually feel that sublime footwork from some players and avoid tackling attempts sucessfully with correct timing.

Of course you might not be so sucessfull against big strong CB's, but I like that. It´s not supposed to work all the time.

With Atletico, Griezman is the guy to send in long balls into space... closed down is worthless... But Torres, when he traps the ball, is just so refreshing to control him while geting out of a three guys closing down and get the space to send a dangerous through ball, or even a shot.
