Playing with and against weak teams is a bliss

I already noticed this in the demo, but with the full game, this is more apparent.

The shot / pass / dribble error is of course much increased when playing with weaker teams and this makes for a much looser, much more realistic game.

The caveat is that you need to use manual controls (i.e. no assist).

I am having a blast at the moment, playing in an international tournament with Bulgaria on Top Player level. They are rated in the region of 60 (average) and when playing against similar teams, I see a myriad of midfield battles, ricochets, stumbles, incomplete passes from both teams. All this adds a lot of realism, which is missing when playing with top teams. If you play with the likes of Argentina, Barcelona, Juventus, etc. the pass completion % is not only too high, but also players complete passes, which should not be possible in real life (considering the context / physics / etc.) of the situation. If PES had sliders it would be easier to adjust the pass %, but in the absence of sliders, using weaker teams solves that to a degree.

Scoring a goal in this context is a real challenge, but when one goes, it feels so much more earned and gratifying.

When the pesgalaxy patch dropped (on PC) I played 4 or 5 matches with championship sides and although it's a small sample size I had a similar experience. It felt 2 times better than playing with top clubs, same game but maybe 10% slower pace (I even raised the game speed to 0 from -1 and it felt great), more errors, fewer one touch laser guided passes. Playing PES17 with lower rated teams is like playing PES calmed down by 10%: close to perfect! Still remember the first match, a hard fought 1-1 draw that felt like a dream.

I certainly plan to revisit these teams and wonder if others notice this as well. If it's not a fluke I'm seriously considering googling for editing apps and ways to make most teams play like this (thoughts and pointers are welcome).

Wait until you play with the default ML players or MyClub players.

      They are awful!

Where do you go to select manual control for passing? I cannot find it.

Hence playing in 2nd tier leagues with 2-3 star teams in ML with default lineups is more challenging.
