RSNomar - That's an amazing run from the US! Would you mind posting some lineups from those games? I'm curious to see what Jürgen did!

My team is in green, of course when I have a nice lead in the league, my team loses/ties with bunch of teams that are fighting in the relegation zone. ****ing FM I'm sick of the playoffs.

And lost in the first round of the playoffs, I hate this game.

I needed a win to avoid falling in the relegation zone:

And in the first game of the season I lose Walcott and Ozil for 1 month a piece. This better not be a repeat of last season.

I'm struggling big time with FM at the moment. I can't seem to get any motivation for a save and those that I do, I'm trying with Leeds at the moment, I seem to fail tactically. I feel like I spend an eternity on the tactics screen these days.

                    Anyone got any advice?

Edit: Gone back to FM13 for the time being. Go Portadown!

Am I the only one that gives up an astronomically large amount of set piece goals? It's pretty damn frustrating.

Try using a bigger club to test your tactics?

I thought I was the only one with this. My team can't defend corners to save their lives, especially late in the game.

With 7 games remaining, leading the league by 9 points. Can't wait to see how my team messes this up.

I've done this before and it's been fine which has been pretty annoying.

I'm still sticking with my 4-3-3/4-5-1/4-1-2-2-1 or whatever you want to call it. I've been playing a save with Leeds and spent a good couple of days on it in the time I've not been on FM13 pretty much. My eyes slightly hurt. Anyway, I've been stuck in mid-table all year with no consistency whatsoever. With 6 games left, I'm 13th, 10 points behind the playoff places so I'm still going to be in the Championship next year.

I think this is actually the first time in any save that I haven't been in danger of going up or being relegated. My lowest position was 20th after 6 games and highest was 10th after 13.

                          Mid-table obscurity FTW.

Re: ***The Official Football Manager Thread***

Anners - I'm a strict 4-1-2-2-1 guy myself, and have had good success so far in 14 with Ajax (except recently I've lost a CD and I'm prone to getting beat over the top with my much higher defensive line). I also manage the USMNT in that save, and started with similar formation but a less attacking philosophy (I use overload with Ajax). I struggled, drawing my first two games that should have been wins.

In my third with the US, I dropped my two IFs back to become Wide Midfielders (still Dempsey and Landon), so I had a 4-1-4-1 formation (apologies, I'm at work and can't screenshot my tactic). You might want to try this:

                            ---------------Altidore DLF / A---------------

                            Dempsey-----Kljestan-----Bradley-----Donovan
                            WM / S----AP-DLP / S----B2B / S-----WM / A

                            ------------------Beckerman------------------
                            --------------------AM / D---------------------

                            F Johnson-----Goodson----Besler-----Chandler
                            -CWB / A-------LD / D----BPD / D----CWB / S

I roughed up Mexico 3-1, having 60% of the ball and them pinned into their half of the field, with my main change being dropping Dempsey and Donovan back a notch and keeping an attacking mentality. The 4-1-2-2-1 get guys forward, work it into the box, suits Ajax (and, let's face it, their opposition) better, but a middling team like the US was having difficulty with creating chances and was getting the forward 3 too far isolated from the rest of the team. Like in real life, I need Dempsey and Donovan to not get stuck too far forward, but to be able to drop back a little and find space between the opponent's D and Mid. Just be sure to keep your forward like Altidore high but given a deep-lying forward role...he's really good at connecting and making space for the other guys.

Stick with 14...it's pretty damn good.

I've generally played the same way for a few FM's which is probably why I'm getting so frustrated! It doesn't help that I'm struggling for a goalscorer, there's only one player who has over 10 goal this season and that's one of my inside forwards.

I notice you use complete wing backs, how attack minded are they? I generally try use quite attacking full backs but I've found myself getting caught out there. At the moment, I've turned my defensive midfielder into a half-back which has made me a bit better defensively.

Hmm I think I may use them as regular WBs, maybe not CWB. With my Ajax 4-1-2-2-1 I definitely use CWB because I have good attacking CWBs and play in the opponent's half, but I think with the US I just use WBs with 1 on Attack and 1 on Support because I try to funnel my attack towards the left flank.

I love the idea of the Half Back because I adore the Busquets role, but I haven't really experimented much with it (I've stuck with a regista in the 4-1-2-2-1 and an anchor man in the 4-1-4-1). In theory HB would be best against 2 strikers so you could have 3 at the central defense, but could leave space for an opposition playmaker. I can see my 4-1-4-1 defenders having trouble being isolated 1 v 1 against 2 CFs in the long run, especially as my CBs for the US aren't that great.

The half back, regista and other expanded roles is basically what sealed the deal for me to buy 14.
